QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 12:59 PM) Why is this thread still around? I haven't even read a single post in it yet because the title alone is ridiculous. Who made you King?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 12:41 PM) Oh, because we still theoretically are in "Win Now" mode this season and if we don't win with our starting pitching, then KW deserves to be fired. And if John Danks continues to disappoint, KW deserves to be fired. And if Molina doesn't make it as a starter....well, you guessed it. You forgot about Beckham and Morel. It's been a tough start for those who think this is a rebuilding year therefore Kenny has a free pass. Too many of the developmental guys are failing, not even the success of Sale gets Kenny off the hot seat through the first month.

A platoon with Fukudome is an upgrade over Viciedo 500 ab's.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 12:31 PM) "We made a horrible, indefensible, foolish mistake with Dan Hudson. We should repeat that mistake." The mistake with Viciedo would be keeping him. They should be looking to move him while he has value left as a prospect.
-
LF'ers are like setup guys you don't develop them as much as you find them. Can the guy hit, yes, put him in LF. Viciedo is not a perennial All-Star in the making in my view so giving him a year or two to develop isn't something a big market team should do. If Kenny Williams didn't have the patience to go with Dan Hudson, no way he should have it with Viciedo.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 10:44 AM) That Adam Dunn was one of the worst fielders in the last decade and belongs no where other than DH. That's not the same computer you got the Vlad Guerrero upside from for Viciedo is it?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 10:43 AM) It actually won games for Juan Pierre in 2010. And what was the end result of that?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 10:38 AM) Wait, he's talking about Dunn playing LF? WTF, really? B, you think its smart to look at defense in a LF'er when you play 81 games at US Cellular Field? Better yet, what does your WAR say about it.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 10:36 AM) That would be in the same vein that I can hit a 95 mile an hour fastball. It's wrong to look for defense in LF at US Cellular.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 10:07 AM) That disaster cost $56 million. Lots of things are "simple" if you are willing to spend a ton of money on it. Once again, another of your claims proves false. He's already on the roster. He can play LF. The question is how long do you wait for Viciedo to hit since anyone can play LF. You might give him more time if he were a LH hitter since those are harder to find.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 08:28 AM) You still haven't answered the question.....You said its simple to find sluggling LFs. Name some that would be simple to obtain. Adam Dunn.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 05:44 PM) Here's BA's first real article on him as a 19 year old, with a scout rating him as a better hitter than a guy who got a $2 million bonus from the Giants and became their top prospect (Prior to some murder charges). Here's him getting called a "Top 3 pick". Here's what his agent was saying about him, in an article written by Joe Cowley: B, can I get some evaluations of the guy like SINCE HE TURNED PRO. Also, please no more from his agent, that's just silly.

Game Thread 4/27: Sawks @ Sox, 7:10pm, The U

When you hand Danks $65M in the offseason he has to outpitch Daniel Bard. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2012 -> 07:41 AM) LARGESSE, by the way. Thanks. Press the 'add reply' button only once by the way.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 07:38 PM) No, I'm saying the stud prospects that turn into stud players don't usually struggle every April or struggle with major league pitching in three consecutive years, regardless of how few at bats they get. At some point they show tangible progress. I'm not seeing ab's that look much different than the ones I saw in 2010. In fact, for the most part they look worse. This is exactly right. The idea that if he turns in to Carlos Lee it's a "major" win for the Sox, no it's not. Carlos Lee was okay when he was cheap, but he became a liability once his salary went up. Viciedo doesn't have as many cheap years as Lee did.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2012 -> 12:24 AM) Well, since I already subscribe to MLB.TV Premium ($25.00 per month) and MLB Gameday Audio HERE IN CHINA.... What else would you like for me to do? Buy a set of season tickets even though I will only be in the US for one month of the summer, and in Iowa (Quad-Cities) to boot? Buy more White Sox hats/souvenirs/merchandise?? If I lived in Chicago, I would go to every game I possibly could, I know that. Maybe not the 2nd half of last season, but definitely this year with Ventura managing, just to show my support. Go back to writing your Viciedo opinion piece, lol. Viciedo is another big bust, therefore, KW must go. Something like that'll do. I don not give one damn whether you are in China or across the street. If you are grousing about White Sox attendance my advice is to buy a ticket or two. Can't make it to the game there are plenty of charities in Chicago that could benefit from your largess.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 10:18 PM) 20,266 for a game against the BOSTON RED SOX? Brooks Boyer has to be thanking his lucky stars it wasn't in the high teens or it would SEEM even worse. Still a bit of a surprising number. What will be the reason this time, the NFL draft? Premium/dynamic pricing? The Bulls are playing? The Red Sox fans are aggravated with Valentine and John Henry? Bad weather? School's still in session. The way we lost the game yesterday afternoon has demoralized fans? After the way Boston played earlier this week in Minnesota, you'd have thought they would get a few of their casual/bandwagon fans back again...and Humber was coming off a perfect game and it was his first home appearance after that. Since you are so concerned with Sox attendance you should buy an extra ticket or two.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 05:08 PM) I didn't say he would. Would you rather get what Viciedo is worth now, or what he might be worth when EVERYONE knows he can't hit? And before you jump on me, this is just my opinion, and I am expressing it. I'm not saying this is by any means proven or that it will happen. I am just not a believer in Viciedo, so I'd rather get some value for him before all that value is gone. Just because he is a project doesn't mean we have to hold on to him and pray until it is absolutely clear he is a failed project. What is this upside that is thrown around on this board. Hawk and a few people on this board think he could be the next Vlad Guerrero I guess, but I've never seen overt-the-top glowing reports on his potential.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 04:42 PM) Really? Because I just checked the stats for all of 2011. There were 7 left fielders in baseball who qualified in PA's and had an >800 OPS. There were...7 second basemen who met that standard. The average OPS league-wide for LF's was .727 and for 2b was .708. And LF's had a needle loaded Ryan Braun who also stood out and helped carry that position. It certainly seems like both are at a premium. Don't care what one year of OPS says. Slugging LF'ers are simple to find.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 02:12 PM) He just did. He's trying out the idea here first to get a feel for how it would go over. Sorry Marty, couldn't help myself. No offense taken. I chuckle too when I see this even if it is a little played out. I understand Cowley is a lightening rod around here for beating down Soxtalk for being wrong about Adrian Gonzalez.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 04:03 PM) I certainly hope not. Dude ought to get at least as long as Beckham has gotten to "Figure it out" in the bigs. No. 2nd basemen who hit like Beckham hit when he came up are at a premium. Slugging LF'ers are not.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 01:36 PM) Before last year's slump didn't he have a period where he raked the baseball? That period where everybody was clamoring for Sox to bring him up? Maybe that was 2 seasons ago now. When the Sox just wouldn't call him up and everybody blamed Ozzie cause he loved Juan. A 3-4 month stretch.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) So many guys in the league are just "guys" What is worth it is finding out if this guy can shore up a few things and be special. I wouldn't normally give such a long leash on such a project, but facts are that we aren't favored to contend right now. Playing Fukudome might add some wins right now but I'm not quite ready to concede developing Viciedo. He has had a year where he held off on his free swinging. It's not a lost cause, just a difficult one. There are a lot of difficult causes if you aren't at the Rangers/Tigers/Yankees payroll level. What has Viciedo done to make anyone think he will be special though?
-
At his very best, I don't think Viciedo will be worth the patience necessary for his development. Not for a big market team like the Sox. Not a troll, nothing to do with KW. I just don't see Viciedo as the Vlad Guerro type some think he could be.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 11:49 AM) Like a team that cut its payroll by $25 million last year, fired its manager, traded away an all star, let its most reliable pitcher walk, and traded away their closer, bringing back nothing but minor leaguers, while signing only 1 backup OF on the free agent market hte entire offseason. Pitching staff says they aren't rebuilding.
