GAME THREAD: Devil Rays @ Sox, 7:05pm

Great to see us capitalize on the botched DP. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 12:54 AM) Fossum used to be a pretty hyped up prospect with the BoSox, IIRC. He looks awful, though. We did a great job of staying back and not chasing his offspeed stuff. He's actually shut down some solid teams in the last month or so. -

Do some damage Iguchi...or don't hit into a DP. -

Right here is where I'd like to see Anderson be a tough out on the changeup on 3-2. QUOTE(G&T @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 12:42 AM) Umpire incident. I'm not really sure why we decided to do something about it though. Oh well, it didn't cost us any runs. -

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 12:40 AM) Did Garcia plunk him on purpose? It was on the first pitch and I can't watch the game at this time so I'm curious. It seemed pretty obvious. -

QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 12:38 AM) Way to have some balls Freddy. Just joining the thread, which do you think is funnier..Young missing the easy rob of JDs homer or getting plunked in his first AB? Definitely forgetting to jump on a pretty routine play at the wall. -

Interesting initiation by Garcia. If we were smart, we'd do a pitch-out on the first pitch. QUOTE(BFirebird @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 12:35 AM) Hawk should have been a radio announcer...he loves to hear himself talk. Where did he play in the minors that you saw him? Durham -

I saw Kevin Witt play in the minors this year, and he looked mighty good. He almost hit 40 homers this year. -

Garcia can't let Tampa get back into the game this inning. -

Thank you Delmon! I'd have to say that the ball's not carrying very well, as Dye usually hitts that 10 feet out of the park. You're just awesome though Jermaine. -

Another near collision between two of our defenders. -
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) Right. But the logic fails because: Why would Rose not be interested in Illinois? Lets give IU the benefit of the doubt and say right now its 50/50 Gordon goes to IU or Illinois. There would have to be some reason why Illinois is not on the list, while IU is. When you start comparing the programs etc, the thing that ties everyone of those programs on his list just happens to be the same parent company. It just seems very strange that if a playing with another player is part of his decision, why he would not atleast list the school where the player currently is verballed. It hurts no one to list it. I just cant trust a guy who tries to pretend like Reebok and Adidas are seperate entites, and that "hes never seen an Adidas person". Well I hate to say it but every Reebok person has been technically an "Adidas person". Its like going to a Lexus dealership and saying "I dont see any Toyata's here". {Edit} And as for Gordon leaving, I have no idea. But if it is true, Illinois better start working hard to figure out what the hell is happening. Weber's biggest shortcoming as a recruiter is how he handles big-time players with big-time egos. So far, Gordon has been the exception. However, Weber doesn't kiss up to the superstar recruits, and this turns them off. A marquee player that turned down Weber couldn't believe how mediocre his sales pitch was, according to an impeccable source.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) How exactly do we miss the playoffs by a margin that includes a half a game? Did Minnesota have a game rained out that they won't be making up? Did we? Good point...silly me. I calculated what the Twins would do in 32 games, and completely forgot that they don't have 32 games left. I'll change it to 3 games (and who says I'm not optimistic!).
-
QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 07:03 PM) ........... and we'll all wax poetic all winter about all those games Ozzie threw away ........... Nope....if this team doesn't make the playoffs, I'm not going to go on and on about any managerial shortcomings. Rather, I'll just look forward to possible changes on and off the field to help improve this organization (and no, I don't want Ozzie fired).
-
16-16..we miss the playoffs by 3.5 games.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 06:57 PM) There is something amiss though. If you read the article, there is somewhat of a problem with their logic. They say the reason Indiana is on the list is because Eric Gordon. But isnt Eric Gordon going to Illinois, so wouldnt Illinois atleast be on the list? Basically the guy is lieing in my opinion. And Im not an Illinois, IU, or any of those other teams fan. He was trying to imply that Gordon might go to Indiana instead.
-
I don't think Illinois has lost a recruit in the last 4 years where they haven't cried "foul". The meltdown on the Illiniboard regarding Rose is ridiculous. He's not the first person to pick a team due to its shoe sponsor, and he definitely won't be the last.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) Aaaaaand away they go.... I usually think we match up very well against the lower level teams. However, tonight is one example where our biggest weakness could possibly be dominated by their only real strength. -

This is a terrible match-up for the Sox tonight, as the DRays will have one of the faster teams in recent memory in their starting lineup. They have quite a few guys that will turn a single/walk into an automatic double, so Garcia better try and limit the amount of baserunners he's allowed. Fossum has been striking out a lot of guys in the games I've seen him pitch, but he seems to give up a big 3 run homer which makes his ERA balloon. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 03:00 AM) Ok, whats are LIPS??? Late inning pressure situations
-
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 09:07 PM) No, we are not. I can't see how even the biggest of Red Sox homer fans could think this. I'm always pessimistic about the White Sox chances...but I'd take our position and the way we're playing 100 pct of the time over the Red Sox position. Something interesting I heard the other day is that in LIPS, Manny's OPS is like 1.400, while Ortiz is like .800.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) Were the steals impressive ones or were they just awful throws. I mean it looked like he had a 05 Pods like game yesterday. He looked much more decisive and confident. The first steal was all him, as he had a great jump (I'm still confused at the slide he attempted). The second steal was more due to a bad throw by the catcher. Redmond was the catcher, and the best thing you can say about his arm is that he's a good hitter. However, I don't care who is behind the plate. It's nice to see Pods try to get some swagger back.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 06:57 PM) I'll say it. KW had more to do with the Sox winning the WS than Ozzie did. He had an amazing offseason after the 2004 year. He really had a great plan in place. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 06:22 PM) To me it seems pretty obvious, but maybe it isn't. Like Kap says, you never know. What is it?
