You're the GM: White Sox edition
QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) And I agree with the need to acquire a #3 hitter, and perhaps a #4 hitter depending on what happens with Konerko. But after Giles and Matsui, there's really not much available. If we can't get either of those guys (likely), I'd just pick-up Everett's option and attempt to work something at the trade deadline. I would not touch our pitching for any trades. PLEASE, No more Carl Everett.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) A loss tonight and I will be in full panic mode. But even that won't be too bad. This team has been a pleasure to watch for most of the season, and with maybe one of two slight roster moves (and all it really needs is a return of a BIG bat), and we will be pretty dang special nex year. This is absolutely the same way I'm thinking now. As someone who took every loss during the regular season rather hard, I find myself very calm now. One roster move that has to be made is to find a number 3 hitter.

Lets tip our hats to Byrd
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 02:03 PM) Sorry to sound like a sore loser, but I will not tip my cap to Byrd. His pitching was above average and totally beatable. When you beat yoursleves at the plate, on the bases and in the field, you will lose to the Paul Byrds every time. I didn't read the gamethread, but were there a lot of complaints about the Sox trying to pull everything last night? PK and Rowand had some real pathetic ABs earlier in the game when they pulled off the ball so much, they hit cue shots to the right side of the infield.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 01:53 PM) This board is pure crap today. Every topic is bulls***, and Im ashamed for all of the baseball fans on here who have to deal with this crap Its a 7 game series They got 2 runs on bulls*** hits we played good for having 3 days off I fully expect this series to be like this everyday. In a 7 game series in the ALCS, did everyone really expect us to win every game? We are going to lose some like this, and so are the angels. Get ahold of yourselves for god sake, and cheer on your team. Being at the game, I expected a lot worse on this board than what I've seen. Sure, there are the few people that try to act like a hard ass and give up on the team at the slightest sign of trouble so they can feel better about themselves. However, most of the people on this board seem pretty positive despite the terrible execution of the game last night.

Lack of Execution
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 01:50 PM) Also, our hitters kept showing bunt so Scioscia just played his infielders up. Our guys need to take off the bunt and bloop some balls over their heads when that happens. Figgins was playing so close on the Pods bunt attempt, he really had no chance of having any success if he bunted the ball towards 3rd base. The Angels are forcing the Sox's hand, and that's one of the main reasons they won last night.

Lack of Execution
Adam Kennedy always seems to execute against the Sox. That hit-and-run was damn impressive. Also, Scioscia did a great job of pulling Byrd when he did. I was hoping to see AJP get another AB against the starter.

Hit and Run?
QUOTE(WinningUgly85 @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 01:37 PM) what was with that last night. I was watching and I could not understand why A.J attempted to steal second. Did Crede mess up but not laying down a bunt? Or by swinging because instead he took the pitch. A lot of conflicting reports on this play. AJP said he saw the hit-and-run sign, but Ozzie said it was a straight steal. I know this though: AJP was pissed off after the game.

Thoughts on tonights game.
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 05:36 AM) I think Podsednik was actually trying to bunt for a hit instead of just moving Uribe over. Rowand just isn't a very good bunter. That pissed me off as well. With my seats high above home plate, I had a great view of Pods bunt attempts. They were absolutely awful, and he didn't give himself a chance in hell of putting the bunt into play. He's usually a very good bunter, but I don't know what the hell was going on with him that AB. We gave up 5 outs due to smallball tonight. That's way, way too many.

Guys...as fucked up as this game was...
I know what you're saying, but we were also a few feet away from Vlad putting the game out of reach in the 8th. There's no moral victories at this point in the season. Win...or go home! Tomorrow is a HUGE game, and we'll be in a big hole if we lose.

QUOTE(Wanne @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 05:11 AM) Fathom...what you said about the infield D...I know you're not puttin Uribe and Paulie in that group. I guess that's one of the biggest things that's bothered me about Crede lately. Now I don't know the guy personally from s***....but he just looks so f***in' nonchalant out there and it pisses me off to no end. I was referring to Crede especially, and AJP and Iguchi a little bit as well. Uribe has been playing amazing D, and PK has been good. I just see a lack of focus by Crede in the field, as well as some nerves. He was lucky his defense didn't cost us any games vs the Red Sox, and it already contributed in a big way to the Angels win tonight.

What was up with todays crowd?
I think the crowd was a little quiet early on in the game because a lot of the fans just expected the Sox to win this game easily. Oh well, it was still a blast, and I find it hard to get mad at things right now.

One more thing: STOP TRYING TO STEAL 2ND PODS! Outside of a few games vs a Pudge-less Tigers team, Pods has been pathetic trying to steal 2nd base. Screw it, I have no problem putting guys in motion, but don't be so predictable with Pods. Either put on a hit-and-run with Iguchi, or have him steal on something other than the first pitch. Everyone at the park could see Molina set up outside with the pitch-out likely coming.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 04:51 AM) I know i wanted him to pinch hit for rowand and i am pretty sure that cheat and fathom did too ( even though we are probally his three biggest haters). believe it or not timo had a better chance of touching k-rod than rowand will ever have. As the founder of OMIT TIMO, I would have loved to see him bat for Crede. However, Crede has been clutch this year, so I understand why he batted. I'd also rather see anyone else on the team besides Pods bat after the 6th inning.

I was at the game tonight, and I'm not too upset with the loss. It was a game we should have won, but s*** happens. Here's some thoughts: - I'm not ready to blame Ozzie for tonight, but Scioscia managed a superior game tonight. - I know some have complained about the crowd, but basically the whole park was standing the last 3 innings. - The Angels put so much more pressure on the Sox to make the good play tonight. When we were bunting, Figgins and Erstad were charging big time. When Figgins was bunting, we basically just sat back and let him get the runner over. - If we keep challenging Vlad all series, we're going to get burned. - Our infield defense just doesn't seem to be energized (besides Uribe, who's been sensational). - Rowand can't bunt! - Pods is a terrible late inning player. Someone needs to tell him you only get 3 strikes, so that he'll swing the f'n bat. - We're going to need Timo to get a big hit this series. Guys like Rowand, Crede, and Uribe are overmatched against the tilts of KRod and Shields.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 06:18 PM) I would not trade Neal right now, he's to damn good and to damn cheap at this point. As much as Damaso has sucked he'll still have some decent trade value. Don't forget the possibility of Cotts becoming a starter down the road. Not a chance in hell I would trade him. Marte, on the other hand, might as well put his Chicago residence on the market.

National Anthem and Starting Introduction
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) He also has done them for White Sox games. And Blackhawks games (which would resonate with White Sox fans). And Wolves games. And Bulls games. See what I'm saying? He's a local celebrity, a gunshot survivor and a damn good singer. I know he's done some Sox games in the past, but he's closely associated with the Cubs.

National Anthem and Starting Introduction
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 04:02 PM) You want to get the crowd going? Two words: Wayne Messmer. Best. National Anthem Singer. Ever. Yeah, nothing better than getting the guy who signs the national anthem for Cubs games to come and sing the anthem for one of the bigger games in Sox history.

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) Who the hell the Yankees got in CF? Tony Womak? Case in point I suppose. Also would be interested in signing Matsui if the Yanks do indeed fail to negotiate a new contract by the deadline... Yankees will have either Damon or Hunter in CF next season.

QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 03:26 PM) Who is going to overpay for Rowand and give the Sox value? That's an interesting concept. A team that wants to improve their defense up the middle. There are quite a few teams that could be interested in him.

Jermaine Dye to 1B
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 03:09 PM) I disagree that he will continue the same numbers. His career trends right now show this year as an outlier in the last 5. I think he will regress a bit. Not only that, but I think he is a terrible replacement for Konerko at 1B. And if this organization wants to pencil in a player that has 1 career game at 1B as their starter for next year, be prepared to be very angry with them. That is not a move that you make after a successful year like this. That is a Royals move and i would lose alot of confidence in our managment if we use a stopgap like that. There is no reason to hold the team together with duct tape. If moving Dye to 1b allows the Sox to acquire some superstar offensive hitters at other positions, I'm all for the move. If they put Dye at 1b, and move Anderson to RF, then you're looking at a 3rd place team next season.

Jermaine Dye to 1B
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 02:53 PM) Dye has been injury prone in his career, and it wasnt just a freak accident. Why do you think we got him for such a bargain. There is no real proof that he will continue to play as well as he has, based on his career numbers and trends. He will not play 1B for us, and if anything he will be a DH in the future. A lot of Dye's injuries happened from diving in the outfield. You would eliminate that aspect with him at 1b. Most experts thought that if Dye stayed healthy at the Cell, he'd hit 30 homers.
