I've noticed in his last couple of starts that the first inning is like this but as the game goes on the average gets to 95. He may still have issues getting loose this close post-surgically.

Fegan article today in Athletic talks about him building velocity through game and him pitching well despite not having his best slider.

  2. Hello people!  It's raining.  Flores was solid coming back from arm cramps.  I think all three A games had highly ranked pitching opponents but not sure after a number of resumed games.

  3. Pump the breaks people.  k rate around 30% slugging .392.  He has improved but its okay to let him start at AA next year.  Hopefully, he moves up as Robert moves up.

  4. Let's remember Castillo was signed on a two year deal to be a bridge catcher and a veteran steadying influence for young pitchers which granted he can't do while suspended.  the veteran role will still exist next year as even more young pitchers come up.

He was suspended for erythropoietin which boosts your red blood cell count,  which is to me about as minor a thing as you could do as a catcher/baseball player.  Not saying it wasn't dumb, just likely to not help.

    He wasn't paid while suspended.

He and Omar make a pretty competent batting catching tandem and he will be the primary as Omar needs to work on his defense.

His trade value is fine as he probably wouldn't be moved until next years deadline.  Even if you try and move this winter, he has one year remaining so I don't think it impacts him at all.  He will have Sept to prove health and value.

  5. This year a few calls to make but in 2019 there are another ten pretty easy adds

2019 Currently pretty easy guys you want to keep:  Hamilton,  Burdi, Collins, Booker, Call, Hansen, Dunning, Flores, Lambert, Rutherford.

So opening another ten spots in a year will require some creativity.  3 for 2 trades or trade borderline guys for guys who are a year or two from 40 man issues.  We also will be out of international bonus penalty limit of 300k so we could even add some cap room.

Hansen's short starts are planned right now.  He didn't walk anyone in 3 innings and got a lot of swings and misses.  You should be excited about this.

Yes, think it allows him to work more between starts but looks like it is helping 50 pitches, 33 strikes.  No walks, 6 ks in 3ip.  4 hits 2 runs only downside but runs all in first.  Would expect 3-5 innings or 60 or so pitches next time.

  7. Bumping up.  Fegan has an article up at the Athletic.  Think subscription may be required but it is a bit updated and all of us who responded above are pretty much right on the money.  He has a lot of the obvious and pretty much the same bubble types.

I always picture Carlton Fisk yelling at Deon Sanders to run out a pop up, respect the game and play the game the way it's supposed to be played.

Loved Fisk for that.  I am old school and don't mind pitching inside at all.  In fact, I believe you have to to be effective.  I understand moving a guy off the plate and yea even intentionally hitting a guy.  However, you should hit him where Kopech did (ass by accounts) but I don't believe in 99mph.  90 mph , (for Kopech might be a change up LOL) is plenty and you actually have to throw it hard enough to control it.  Forever it has been part of the game up until the last 25 years or so.  If you homered, you expected/prepared to get buzzed the next time.  Some guys would buzz you twice so you knew the first wasn't a mistake.  Look at this quote in a story from Callum Hughson of Dusty Baker being warned about Bob Gibson by Hank Aaron

“(Hank Aaron told me) ‘Don’t dig in against Bob Gibson, he’ll knock you down. He’d knock down his own grandmother if she dared to challenge him. Don’t stare at him, don’t smile at him, don’t talk to him. He doesn’t like it. If you happen to hit a home run, don’t run too slow, don’t run too fast. If you happen to want to celebrate, get in the tunnel first. And if he hits you, don’t charge the mound, because he’s a Gold Glove boxer.’ I’m like, ‘Damn, what about my 17-game hitting streak?’ That was the night it ended.”
    —Dusty Baker
