  1. I need help from a stat person. Ignoring the fact that Vaz is making 10+ million a year and McCarthy probably the minimum, could their roles be reversed? I would love to see stats on success at different pitch counts. Javy is getting hammered later in games it seems. Could he be a dominant reliever ala Smoltz? I am not advocating replacing Jenks, I am just discussing making the best puzzle out of the available pieces. When you get to the playoffs one starter is heading to the pen. Garcia has big game success, McCarthy has some relief experience, Javy none that I can find in his career stats. Maybe Javy gets experience now or in September when call ups provide further depth. I understand why he drives people crazy because he has great talent. I don't know if it is physical or mental fatigue that is causing his trouble.

  2. I actually feel sorry for Cliff because everyone in the world knows that Ozzie(and all others) have no confidence in him. He has to know he is gone. I would like another trip to the DL and two weeks of rest , then rehab. We can't get anything of value for him and maybe it is an injury situation that he could recover from. I think he was rushed back the first time.

  3. Sorry I don't know how to link, but it is on the official site. Bauman writes a good article about how the Sox are now coming together and hitting on all cylinders. I am bewildered that Ozzie's dugout tirade in which Ozzie stated he called out the team (not just Tracey) for not standing up for each other is not listed as a contributing factor. Possibly due to the recent controversies, it is not politically correct to praise or defend Ozzie if you are in the media. My take is that Ozzie's tirade had the exact effect on his team that he wanted.

  4. An unmentioned effect of everyone playing is the clubhouse atmosphere. I think Ozzie's penchant for using everyone greatly contributes to the commradarie off the field and in the clubhouse. When you play you feel like a part of the team. Another unmentioned benefit is our current non skipping of a starting pitcher in the rotation. While our starters are almost always good for 100-110 pitches, they get an extra day off. Torre has adjusted the Yankees so Johnson and Mussina get max starts, they will burn out or be injured.
