  1. Jermaine Dye hides pennies in his pant legs, it's good if he walks past a homeless guy under the tunnel on 35th street but not real convenient for running.
  2. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 07:38 PM) I find him ruggedly handsome. You would, you have an odd taste in men. Timo has that whole bugeye thing going on, not really sure what you see in him. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 07:39 PM) How good is Laird's throwing arm? meh
  3. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 06:33 PM) Who the hell is this Tyner kid in Minnesota? Guy is hitting .393 You need to brush up on your no-name baseball players. Jason Tyner is a journeyman OF who spent a few years in the majors with the D-Rays, last year he hit pretty damn well for the Twins and he seems to be doing the same this year.
  4. Just a quick update to everyone out there, Johan Santana is still incredibly underrated. It makes no sense to me, never will. Carry on.
  5. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 05:57 PM) Im a big closer guy, and I have always loved Mo and Hoffman. For me, nothing beat Hoffman in his prime coming out to Hells Bells to nail down a game. Mariano; not so much. Hoffman on the other hand hells yeah, you gott appreciate a guy who can close out games for a decade with nothing more than a mid to upper 90's fastball and a changeup. Others have tried but not many have succeeded, hoffman will always be a fav of mine. As will Jeff Zimmerman, it's so sad that his career had to end the way it did, the guy was lights out in '01 and was never to be seen from again.
  6. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 05:42 PM) Just checked on MLB4u, and Thornton is a free agent after 2010. I checked that and I'm not positive it's right.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 05:28 PM) Is Thornton a FA after this year? If so, he's making himself a fortune. Actually I believe Matt Thornton is still an automatic resign, he hasn't even hit arbitration yet. Meaning he still has all of his arbitration years remaining. He'll be under Sox control for awhile.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) Was it Cabrerra that had a rough start against the Sox in the first inning, but than pitched real well the rest of the game? If so sign me up on Cabrerra but I don't see what we'd offer them. I could see the O's having interest in a guy like Freddy, especially if they think he'll be fine a year from now. You got to have a few quality vets to go with there young rotation, but the Sox would also have to get a bullpen piece from the O's. Yes, yes it was. With as much trouble as Cabrera has had in the bigs I'd be incredibly intrigued with him. The guy has ACE stuff, the ability to shut down anyone anytime he wants. It's just another case of a young pitcher with great stuff but pathetic control. He's walked the world since comming into the bigs in '04 when he walked 89 and struck out 76. This year before being sent to the minors he K'd 90 but walked a ridiculous 75. The guy is only 26 years old, throws in the high 90's, is built like a god damn bull and could turn out to be a damned Ace in the future. I'm intrigued to say the least.
  9. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 05:06 PM) Pedro Martinez (in his prime, never saw anyone better in my lifetime and I'm convinced that at his best no one Could not agree more. I've been a long time member of the "Pedro in His Prime was the Greatest Ever" club.
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 05:08 PM) Spectacular
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 04:51 PM) Rongey is should be dubbed the fuzzy pink bunny. Because he is so sweet on the sox and nothing is ever wrong. They could get rocked 99 to nothing, and every starter could be hurt and he would find a sweet point about something that has nothing to do with the game or the outcome. It was pretty damn funny hearing Bernstein and a-bat-a-cola ripping on Rongey for being Mr. Sunshine, atleast it's not just the listeners that are sick of his endless optimism and sugar coated pre/post game shows. Ok, from now on Rongey is the fuzzy pink bunny, it suits him.
  12. QUOTE(T R U @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) I still dont think that Reds trade was all that bad, Clayton is actually playing pretty good and they got two solid young bullpen arms.. but yeah, they could have gotten more Haha, I did find your number two hilarious though Have you seen what Majewski has done since getting to the Reds? P.A.T.H.E.T.I.C. 2IP, 7H, 5ER His numbers were pretty bad before he even got to Cincy, 25BB/37K? Who the hell wants a guy with that sort of ratio? I really don't see Gary as being much more than a journeyman in the future.
  13. According to Chris Rongey (he needs a damn nickname, Ranger sucks) 11 White Sox players were out there today taking bunting practice. bout.fishing.time
  14. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 04:38 PM) I like the idea of picking up Pelfrey as long as we get a reliever in return as well (even if we have to give up something else in addition to). Pelfrey could be the last guy in the pen if we want and the team can slowly groom him. He's got a great arm and has front of the rotation potential (maybe not an ace, but definately a #2 or 3). That means in time we could have McCarthy and Pelfrey in the rotation and those guys could be real major players when a guy like Contreras or Vazquez or someone else takes off. Yes, I totally agree with all of this, there's just no way I want him in the rotation this year. I think he'd be perfect in the long relief role though and would love to pickup a pitcher with his upside but not at the expense of two starting pitchers.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) why? Pelfrey in his 2 starts this year he's had trouble with command walking 7 batters, he has some serious controls problems and is not the type of guy I want to go throwing into the middle of an American League pennant race. He's cruisin' for a bruisin' in the NL, it scares me to think what would happen to him if he came over to the American League and started walking guys. I'd much rather have Javy going for me but hey maybe I don't hate him as much as most people.
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 04:21 PM) Im not even really interested in Milledge. Pelfrey is the guy that looks most interesting to me but he is probably as untouchable as Milledge. Do you think if we get a guy like Pelfrey in return there is any chance that we trade not 1 but both Vazquez and Garcia? So then you go with a 4 man rotation because I'm sure as hell not throwing Pelfrey in the rotation. That wouldn't make much sense now would it?
  17. My favorite pitcher just happens to be the most dominant pitcher of his era and that is Pedro Martinez. I absolutely fell in love with him in the mid '90's and 2000 just put me over the top. In quite possibly the single most dominant season by any pitcher in the history of baseball he made American League hitters look like children in 2000. He put up a 285 ERA+ (greatest of all-time) and a .73 WHIP (also the greatest of all-time). Couple that with a 1.74 ERA which is just completely unheard of for his time and it ranks his 2000 season right up there with the greatest EVAR. He's lead the league in WHIP 7 times, ERA 5 times, hits allowed 6 times, SO/9IP 5 times, SO/BB 4 times and ERA+ 7 times. He's won 3 Cy Young Awards, 1 in the NL and 2 in the AL, appeared in 7 All-Star games and finished 2nd in MVP award in 1999. 98 MPH fastball and one of the greatest change ups you'll ever see, it's just not fair. There's not much not to like about the guy.
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) ^^^ Dontrelle would more than likely be fantastic the rest of the year but I think you give him one year in the al and he starts to get knocked around. I'm not sure why, but I've never been totally sold on Dontrelle and I'm still not. IMO Bmac will be better than Willis and I don't want Mac or BA going anywhere. Hell, if you just look at Dontrelle's numbers this year you can see he's already starting to struggle. IP H BB SO ERA WHIP BAA K/9 K/BB OPS G/F Dontrelle Willis - 137 150 44 86 3.94 1.42 .282 5.65 1.96 .756 1.74 Jon Garland - 116 136 26 60 5.12 1.40 .292 4.66 2.31 .817 1.05 He's not striking anyone out, walking everyone else and giving up more H than IP. The general rule of thumb is to add .90 onto an NL pitcher's ERA to convert it to the AL. That would put Dontrelle at 4.84.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 03:27 PM) Don't Mess with Mark Buehrle. I think a certain detective needs to make an appearance today . . .
  20. another turn through the rotation and we have . . . UP TO THE SECOND SP TRUST LEVELS: 1.) Jose Contreras - A great outing by Contreras in a huge game ruined by horrid timely hitting, he remains atop the the SP Trust Board. - 2.) Jon Garland - Jon Garland continues his string of dominace with a brilliant twirl against he Tigers. In his last 6 outings Jon has allowed a total of 12 ER over 38.2 IP, he's allowed 2 runs or less in 5 of the 6 outings. Garland closes in on Contreras by a notch. - - - 3.) Mark Buehrle - 22 ER (24 R) over his last 14.1 IP, that's 3 straight horrid starts. I hate him right now. Same spiff with Buehrle, he's going to need a hell of outing tonight to make any move on Garland. 4.) Javier Vazquez - Vazquez actually gains a little ground on Buehrle after pitching 5 great innings Vs the Tigers, only to implode in the 6th inning. It wasn't a very good outing at all but I feel better about him after it than before he pitched. - - - 5.) Freddy Maddux - Brandon McCarthy looks pretty damn good right about now.
  21. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) Well, I don't know much about Reggie Willits, but from some quick research, BA didn't have him on their top 10 prospect list, and John Sickels didn't have him in his top 20 list. I'm not too high on Chone Figgins, especially when we currently have Pods. I think that if you are looking for a leadoff man, regardless of speed and baserunning abilities, Pods is a better choice, especially with the numbers that Figgins is putting up this year. I wouldn't give up Brian Anderson for any of those 3 players, nor would I give up Lance Broadway for any of those 3 (sue me, I'm a fan of him and the type of pitcher that he is). When you combine both Anderson and Broadway, well, it just doesn't do much for me. Chone Figgins is infinately better than Podsednik even with the down season Figgins is having AVG and OBP wise, he still has 37 SBs at 79% which is awesome especially compared to Podsednik's 29 and 70%. Figgins plays every position and all of them well with an excellent arm, his defense is FAR superior to Podsednik's in LF as well. Figgins is in a pathetic lineup this year, you plug him in between Anderson and Iguchi and you have yourself an elite leadoff man with offense, defense and especially versatility.
  22. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) I don't think he's seen it. Even if he hasn't seen the movie, how is it possible to not get the reference? It's a major part of American Pop culture.
  23. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 02:55 PM) So, in essence, we'd be giving up Brian Anderson, Jerry Owens, Scott Podsednik, and Lance Broadway for Chone Figgins, Austin Kearns, and Reggie Willits? No chance in hell I'd give up that much for those 3 players. Honestly I'm not sure it would be enough to get those 3 but it still wouldn't fit the Sox' needs if it were somehow accepted.
  24. Why would we want to trade Anderson again? Kearns is a major injury risk and plays some pretty bad defense, I like Figgins but I'm not giving up Anderson to get him.
