  1. Dayton Moore would have to be out of his mind to trade Zack Greinke for Jeff "Zero Plate Discipline" Francoeur. I'm not buying that for a second.
  2. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 01:05 AM) This should be good. K-Rods peripherals suggest that next year is going to be very-interesting for the New York Mets. I think that they're going to regret that deal sooner than later. Rodriguez has a ton of mileage on his arm, and his K and BB rates have been declining for quite some time now.
  3. K-Rod to Mets very close and looking very likely: http://www.nypost.com/seven/12082008/sport..._rod_143325.htm
  4. According to MLBTR, the Dodgers have re-opened negotiations with Furcal. I wouldn't be surprised if he re-signs, considering that his list of potential suitors seems to be shrinking rapidly.
  5. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 12:39 AM) The problem being that three of the players you mention weren’t even developed by the Rangers they came from outside the organization. That being said, I like Teargarden and Boggs, and they’ve got some decent pitching prospects coming up the pipe I hope so. It seems like for as long as I've been following baseball, they've always had a strong offense but weak pitching. To be fair, their ballpark and hot environment probably have a lot to do with it.
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 12:15 AM) Believe me, Santo is not alone. It would be pretty funny if the Rangers traded Young before the ridiculous 5 year, $80M extension they gave him 2 years ago even kicks in. Last year was an option year, he starts making $16M a year in 2009. Imagine how undesirable Michael Young will be in 2012 or 2013 when he's 35/36 years old, incapable of playing even a mediocre 2B, putting up a low .700 OPS and making 16 million dollars with a full no trade clause. Between this, trading Danks, and their perpetual dearth of quality pitching, that organization is hilariously incompetent.
  7. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 09:02 PM) 9:00pm: MLB.com's Corey Brock says the legwork on this trade "has essentially been completed." No deal has been reached, but Towers says he's facilitated a three or possibly four-team deal. The third and possibly fourth teams (Orioles, Phillies) have agreed to players. There could be some haggling remaining on players sent from the Cubs to Padres. Brock says all Towers needs now is the go-ahead from Hendry. So it looks like a Peavy to the Cubs deal will actually come to fruition. Damn.
  8. Initially, I was hoping that Cabrera would accept arbitration, but upon further consideration, I'm not sure I want to spend $12 million+ on an old shortstop with a sub 90 OPS+. Even if we don't sign Furcal, I don't think the difference in production between OC and Lillibridge/Getz/Nix is worth that kind of cash.
  9. Ugh, I hate this waiting game. This week should at least be very interesting.
  10. QUOTE (ScottPodRulez22 @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:08 PM) I just got a ESPN txt message alert saying "White Sox will trade OF Jermaine Dye to Reds for SP Homer Baily" I'm confident that's just based on the initial report from McCoy.
  11. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:02 PM) I'd only want Dunn as a DH. I would hate watching him "play" OF on the White Sox. Agreed, but for one year I could live with it. In 2010 he could take over for Thome at DH.
  12. QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 08:52 PM) Shot down. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,7672373.story What is going on here? Not sure if I should be happy or sad.
  13. QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 08:44 PM) horrendous Worse than Fields?
  14. Edwin Encarnocion + Bailey would be an epic steal for the Sox, but I'm not holding my breath.
  15. QUOTE (SEALgep @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) Isn't that guy done? I think his eye injury ended his playing days forever... Different Encarnocion.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 08:18 PM) I'm actually beginning to come around on this already. Bailey is something we are really lacking..a potential power righty in our rotation. As much as it pains me to give up one of my heroes, my head tells me that selling him high was the right move. We've been fairly lucky that he has remained healthy and has been consistently productive. Who knows how good Jermaine Dye will be now that he is entering his decline phase?
  17. Wouldn't it be the most shocking swerve ever if all this money saved allowed us to get into the Sabathia or Ramirez sweepstakes? No, I will not put down the bong.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 08:00 PM) On the other hand, if we use this money wisely, then I don't mind these moves. I'd like to be the first to say thank you to Jermaine Dye. One of the most significant players in Sox history. Yeah. If this is true, I'm sad to say I've seen Dye play his last game in a White Sox uniform.
  19. I hope we received at least one more player. Bailey alone seems to be an awfully light return for Dye.
  20. It just hit me that I've seen Greg Maddux pitch for the last time, and that really sucks.
  21. I too hope they play classic games. I'd love to see some no-hitters of the past.
  22. I know it's not going to happen, but I am salivating at the thought of signing Adam Dunn to play LF next year and replace Thome at DH in 2010.
