Rick Hahn on McNeil and Spiegel Show
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 01:39 PM) Remember when Morel showed a lot of pop at the end of his rookie season? That didn't last long. Gillaspie has proven far more at the MLB level than Morel, thankfully

I am totally dumbfounded as to what is wrong with the placement of the power button

The point here is that there should absolutely no sense of urgency to move or bench Conor Gillaspie. As soon as there is a prospect that looks like a future 3B or there is a veteran 3B that can help you contend, that's when Conor becomes a bench player.

Rodon could be different given that he will likely be perceived as near MLB-ready. The sooner a guy is in the show, the less a potential injury can harm you. When a guy spends 4 years in the minors, that injury could easily stunt his development. If a guy is dominating in MLB when he sustains that injury, chances are he still is valuable afterwards. With that said, if there was a Kris Bryant-type in the draft I'd probably jump on him

In a vacuum, I'm so not a fan of spending what is likely our only super-high draft pick on a pitcher

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 01:19 PM) Would rather save $18 million (not an insignificant number to JR or Hahn) and let Garcia play RF (his natural position) and get comfortable at the major league level for the final two months...or at the very least, the entire month of September. We're so far under budget that I would be very surprised if we gave up the chance to acquire talent just to not have to pay him for the rest of this season. The chances that we trade him become far more favorable in the offseason and this is when you start to add a sense of urgency to moving him. Avisail can come up and split at-bats at some point this season if the White Sox think he has nothing left to prove at AAA (where has yet to play even 40 games).

They act like he's never been good before. He wasn't some hack last year either, especially after he got over his injury in the early part of that season - he had posted an >.900 second half OPS

I'm very optimistic about Dayan. He has made real steps forward against right handed pitching, especially but not only recently. We'll soon see his production pick back up against lefties and his overall numbers will look far better. I think he can stay in LF defensively, too. Early in the season he had some horrendous play (must have been on the same defensive practice plan as the other two outfielders) but has since been largely good, short of the one time he couldn't pick up a baseball.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 12:53 PM) Actually we might have to be...depends on what they want to do with Garcia though. If they want him starting...there's no starting spot in the OF right now. Garcia could seriously benefit from more sharpening in the minors. Regardless, Rios is our best player - he really is. You can't just let him go without making his departure coincide with an influx of production in another position. Right now it would be very optimistic to say that Garcia can simply match Rios's production. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 12:54 PM) http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-08...n-dayan-viciedo Good lord was that bad. Just some TheoJed sucking QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 12:56 PM) What makes you think we could get anything more than salary relief for him? We're losing all the leverage and negotiating with just one team....not 10-15. The White Sox are better off just dumping him and letting Garcia play his natural position....it's not like they have to keep him (Rios), like the situation with Alexei Ramirez not really having anyone yet who could step in and take that position over until at least mid-season 2014. We don't have to move him this season. If we don't like the waiver market, there's an offseason when the market will be much more receptive to a player with high salary. Some team won't want to give 3-5 years and a higher yearly salary to a free agent corner OF'er and will likely prefer Rios and may give us a talented young player(s) to do so. This not to mention the fact that we can offer a discount on Rios's already fair contract to sweeten the pot. I don't think we'll make a move during this season for that very reason. It'll be fine. Garcia can fine tune his offensive game in AAA, perhaps work on that walk rate, etc. As far as position players go, outfield is our strength. We can deal with having an extra bat there until we get what we want for Rios. No reason to weaken the position of strength without making an area of weakness better.

I think there is plenty of reason to believe that Conor can be a 1.5-2.0 WAR player, as he is on pace to be a 1.1 WAR player in his rookie season. We don't have to assume that every player will either stay the same or get worse. He should be our starting 3B until further notice

Post Deadline Top 10
You don't have to have a high BB rate or low K rate to have good enough pitch recognition. If a guy is hitting exceptionally well, all signs point to his pitch recognition being very good and his strategy simply being very aggressive

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 01:01 PM) The guy has one .800 OPS season in the minors (and it was in the ever inflated PCL). I don't know what about his past screams that he'd be anything league average at 3rd base. The one thing he did do was consistently post good OBP's down in the minors. I think league average is something we'd really like to have and that was his point.... He can hold it down and not be a problem with the team until you get a guy with some real star potential

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 12:25 PM) Hopefully he passes THROUGH all the waivers and the Sox can get something back in return. If not, we'll just have to be satisfied with dumping his contract, which isn't the worst thing in the world, honestly. No, we don't

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 12:27 AM) Tigers signing Damon was so long because at one point, we all thought the Sox were the team that was going to sign him. The good thing is...Soxtalk clearly still has traffic...recent moves have been the top traffic getters. Just wait till this team gets back to the playoffs and wins another series!!! Maybe I'm not recalling correctly, but I feel like that was an instance of a ST insider sharing some info that didn't materialize. Wasn't there something Damon having a big dick too? Or is that public info?

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 11:47 PM) I would like to see the White Sox and Rick Hahn revamp the scouting department with the exception of Marco Paddy. We have revamped it, by giving it funds on par with other teams to sign the players it scouts

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 11:34 PM) Who said that? Yeah, I've not anything to suggest this. Despite some misrepresented articles that suggest the contrary, it seems that HTC views the One as a success and anticipates taking more market share in the future.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 11:36 PM) I tend to concur with the you; if not that specific plan (please post a warning when you write scary things - like Morel at 3rd). We should also clear out the bullpen soon of the Troncoso's et al and give some prospects or even another set of AAAA players a chance. It's ridiculous to play useless veterans. I think the main theory at play as far as Troncoso goes is that he is here only because there are young relievers that we like more, but we don't feel are ready to be exposed to MLB pitching just yet. You don't want prospects you actually like to be a punching bag for MLB guys before htey are ready

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 09:34 PM) Gillaspie's defense has really soured me towards him lately, I could see him being a 3b/1B backup but his lack of power and defense really makes him a bad option starting anywhere He's a very good defender at 3B. He's just made a few bad plays recently.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 08:40 PM) I want to see Beckham at short the rest of the year, Gillaspie at second (groom to be a super-sub of sorts), and Morel at third. The Sox lose valuable evaluation time with every game Ramirez plays. I'd much rather see Semien playing SS in this scenario with Gillaspie at 3B and Gordon at home at 2B. Just say no to Morel, it's a bad drug
