  1. Speaking of guys like Dye ... guys that were once productive but due to injuries have not produced as much the last couple of years .... There is a guy out there that we could probably get for very little.  The Mets are wanting to get out of Cliff Floyd's contract and I believe they'd pay a significant portion of it.  He's got 2 years and $13 Million left on his contract.  This is guy who if he can be healthy, could possibly have a 2004 J. D. Drew type year in '05.  Even at last years numbers, he wasn't that far off Carlos Lee's numbers and if we can get the Mets to pick 4 or 5 million of that remaining contract, he could be a real bargain.  I'm sure he'd love to put together a couple of good years to re-establish himself as a quality player before his contract is up.  He's 31 so it's not like he'll get old before his contract expires.

Keep in mind, I'm looking for a bargain here.  Floyd would not be my first choice but it's an idea worth exploring.

Ok.  I've said my piece, so go ahead and rip me to shreds.

Edit:  I withdraw my comparison to Carlos.  I misread a couple of numbers on his stats.

IIRC, KW contacted The Mets last season when both Frank/Maggs went down to see about Floyd's price? Also, IIRC They were discussions about a Floyd for Sweeney deal, but Ozzie begged KW not to and KW then broke off talks. Not sure if that's 100% accurate or not.

All in all I think Floyd would be ok, if healthy. He kind of reminds me of Everett though.

  2. With all due respect, Robbie Alomar hasn't done s*** for 3 years.

I know, your right. I think my main thing with him is that Kenny has traded for him twice and I owuld like to see if he can do anything for us whatsoever over a FULL season.

  3. I'd prefer Rowand to leadoff instead of Harris although I know Harris will be in the leadoff role for '05. With the probable Sox line-up, Rowand is better served further down in the order.

In a perfect world, Harris would be batting 9th.

Agreed, Willie would be a great 9 hitter. Hopefully KW gets The Sox a bonafide lead-off man.

  4. People have to get it through there head that Wright had 1 good year..and we are only suppoed to offer Wright a 2 year deal with an option for a 3.

yeah, but the guy is only 29 and supposedly has his mechanics and isn't relying too much on his velocity anymore. He is worth it, I hope the deal gets done. I remember him shutting The Sox down last year. Purely dominant, IIRC.

  5. I'd rather have a youngster like Valdez than an aging shell of what used to be Robbie Alomar.

I like Valdez too, but if Robbie could be had at a resonable price and improves from last year when he had a supposed back ailment that limited him with The Sox, then I think it's a good risk to take.

  6. Well for those not wanting Ortiz it looks like the Dbacks may get him:

"Arizona stands a strong chance of landing free-agent pitcher Russ Ortiz to help anchor a new-look starting rotation, and the roster will likely include a new name for the infield as well, as first baseman Richie Sexson has rejected the Diamondbacks' latest contract offer."

The more and more I hear these teams that are talking to pitchers, the more and more I wonder if we are going to sign anyone. I'm hoping next week when the winter meetings start that KW gets us a pitcher.

  7. I know that Robbie is old and been injury prone. But, KW was going to take a chance on Vizquel, who is 38 yrs old himself. Considering everything KW has given up for Alomar the past 2 years, would it be so bad to bring him back cheaply and see if he can win the 2B job? I, for one, would take a chance with him, if the price was right just to try to save face considering KW traded for him.................TWICE.

  8. yes, back in April there was a tornado that destroyed a small town near where I live and alot of people from The Sox organization went there and actually helped with cleaning up the baseball filed that was destroyed and gave out numerous things. It was a great day for that town. :headbang

  9. According to the Seattle Times, the Mariners have offered Jaret Wright a contract believed to be worth $15 million over three years.

That's unlikely to get a deal done. Wright figures to receive at least $18 million over three years, and if the Yankees get involved, the price could go even higher. Dec. 1 - 3:58 am et  From rotoworld.

I'm pretty torn on this then. Does KW need to strike fast and up the ante for this guy or does he sit back and wait for another starter? I really don't know what to think about Wright.

  10. Guys, I don't know if this has been covered because I have never seen a thread blow up like this before. But rashid4434 consistently posts crap rumors on cbssportsline rumor mill. So, if this is where the rumor started it's BS. If it came from JimH friend in Florida, there could be something to this.
