This is why you try to keep Freddy in as long as possible. Cliff threw a lot of pitches last night. Jenks pitched 2 innings. Now you have to go to Viz for awhile.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) I know it would never happen, but I would love for the Sox to trade Pods to a team eager for a leadoff hitter. Who the heck would leadoff for us?

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 08:27 PM) Would you still take Buerhle over Santana? At no time did I EVER say I'd take Buerhle over Santana. You are putting words in my mouth. I specifically said that Burly was having the better year up to that point in the season and there is no doubt in my mind that he was. They are still VERY similar this year with Mark pitching MANY more innings in his 29 starts, though Santana has many more K's in his starts. Burly has 2 more wins, same number of losses, though W's and L's have no bearing on an argument of pitchers.

I'd rather have Sizemore up right now if anyone cares. Take 2 Pods.

QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) Tony Pena did. HE GAWN Gene LaMont did. HE GAWN Dusty Baker won two, his first in his first year. HE GAWN (from SF) Larry Dierker did. HE GAWN Should I go on? Dierker did? Now I'll admit I didn't know that.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) You mean those same people in major league baseball that would say there's absolutely no comparison between Pods and Sizemore? jphat...do you really think Ozzie is a good in-game manager? What he chooses to do works out for the most part. COnsidering this offense has been bad to decent for most of the year, and we've had a hell of a lot of close games in which he's had to make a lot of moves, he has to be doing something right. He makes some moves that make you scratch your head at times, but for the most part they work out.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 08:17 PM) Yes, he's an absolutely terrible manager. I think the list of people who agree with this is growing by the inning. Haha. Thats fine. I wonder who's opinion I should value. The people who have dealt with major league baseball or a bunch of guys on a message board. hmmm.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 08:17 PM) Didn't Dusty Baker win a MotY? Did he do it in his second year in the bigs?
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 08:15 PM) I hope he remembers to carry that trophy with him to the unemployment line in the next few seasons. I'm beginning to think you'd rather try to bait myself and others instead of actually commenting on the game. Since there are no personal attacks on this board now, all I can say is LOL. You're calling the AL Manager of the year a terrible manager. The statement is funny in and of itself. I need say nothing.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 08:11 PM) May I add in crappy managing as well? SHHHHH. You might hurt Ozzie's feelings. He might not show you his AL manager of the year award in only his second year of managing with a "terrible, terrible offense" if you don't stop yelling at him.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 08:09 PM) Unbelievable. Simply unbelievable. coming and facing 2 batters, both lefties, and getting only 1 out is not good in my book. Sorry.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) We've gone over this time and again. Who gives a flying f*** what the overall bullpen ERA is. When they actually go to their main guys in a close game, they have solid relievers. You're the same person that tried to tell me the Yanks bullpen was bad, cause of their overall ERA. LOL
-
Good job Neal. And by good job I mean not a good job.
-
QUOTE(infohawk @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) We don't have the margin in this game anymore to mess around. As it stand now, we'll probably end this inning up by two. As bad as the Royals are, I don't want a tie game in the late innings with their hard-throwing relievers coming in. Their bullpen is pretty decent. If by decent you mean 11th in the AL, yah, they are decent.

Haha. I love this thread.

KC's been scoring more runs of late. Though that doesnt matter. Also, we're only 7 away from 22 this series!

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) Good with the bases loaded? Sizemore is significantly better than Pods when runners are on base. Also, I'm not sure what Sizemore's numbers are, but Pods has been brutal getting on base in LIPS. Empty. Empty. Said that wrong. BTW. Did I mention how much Chavez blows.
-
QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) Sizemore hits .281 leading off with a .332 OBP Those other splits were for bases empty. I don't think he really struggles to "Get the offense going" at the beginning of the game personally. .332 OBP to start the game compared to .385 for Scott. Big difference. And bases empty is important as well. Leadoff guy is supposed to be the spark so other guys get him in. If there is 1 out, no on and he comes up, I'd rather have Scott up there. If there are men on 1st and 2nd with 2 out, I'd rather have Sizemore up there. So bat him 5th. I don't think there is any argument that Sizemore is better in every other spot in the lineup.

Wow. He looked out.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:30 PM) This reminds me of another game thread and the comparisons of Santana vs Buerhle. Sweet. That means I'm right here too! But this is a matter of preference. I wnat a guy in the leadoff slot that is good with the bases loaded. Some people might liek a slugging leadoff man. I like mine to get on base and get things started.
-
Good play.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:26 PM) What about the other 3 or 4 times in a game he's not leading off? .261 .314 .450 Those are Sizemore's numbers with the bases empty. THat means he has a tough time getting things going for his team, which to me is a big thing as a leadoff/get on base hitter.
-
QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:24 PM) Sizemore also has 25 more Runs scored than Pods. Isn't that what you want out of your leadoff hitter? That is strictly a product of the guys behind you.
-
QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:21 PM) Better offensive numbers? Like what? Pods average is a whole 4 points higher and his obp is just a few points higher as well. Other than that...Sizemore has 19 Dingers, 31 2B, 11 3B, 97 Runs Scored, 76 RBI. But hey, I guess Scotty is better cause he steals a few bases Well I said if you care about slugging Sizmore is your man. I don't care about it as much from a leadoff man. I'm not saying I wouldn't take Sizemore. He's younger, but as leadoff men in that responsibility, theres not much diff.

Chavez is terrible. Talk about choking in a big series.
