  1. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 08:12 PM) So are people ready to rethink the Contreras > Burnett statements made in the past week? Burnett's Road ERA in a pitcher's league = 3.80 Contreras' Road ERA in a hitter's league = 3.50 Burnett pitches in a pitcher's park. Jose pitches in a hitter's park. I would not give up Contreras and Marte for Burnett. I understand Jose is frustrating to watch this year, but he has given us everything we could have asked from him. He has been terrific in the spot he's in. He just has nothing to show for it because we score NO runs for him.
  2. QUOTE(Stephen @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 08:10 PM) He's had more than 3 bad games. He's given up more than 4 runs (which I consider "bad") in THREE of his 19 starts.
  3. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 08:09 PM) is it just me, or has Bonderman consistently gone 2-0 to Sox hitters all night? He's fallen behind all night. He hasn't had very good stuff. He gave up 6 ER to the ROYALS at home his last start. Bottom line is we just don't score while Contreras is out there.
  4. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) The Cubans are a problem. Why couldn't they be one pitcher name Jolando Contrandez. A guy with balls that knows how to pitch with talent. The talent coming from Contreras and the balls/knowledge coming from Duque. Unfortunately, we have two half pitchers. Duque may be a problem. COntreras has been all we could ask out of a 4 or 5 starter. He's done an awesome job. Only be "out" of 3 games in which he's pitched horribly.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) Crede didn't hang a 2 strike pitch to the number 8 hitter. Reminds me of Spurling last night. If Crede makes the play, the inning is over. It was right to him.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 07:43 PM) What a f***ing loser. On a team with such an amazing record this year, our W-L record when Contreras pitches is shockingly bad. Ozzie is leaving him in to die now. You're kidding right? Did you not read any of the posts with CyGarland. He has gotten 3 or more runs of support only THREE f***ING TIMES in 18 starts this year.
  7. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 07:41 PM) He's given up 5 runs in this game, let's not sugarcoat it. Well. 3 now. He's given up 3 and Crede's given up 3.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) Plain and simple, Contreras is not a winning ball player. He's fallen apart twice in this game with 2 outs. I don't know about everyone else, but I don't want him close to the mound if we make the playoffs (unless we face the A's, where I'll take my chances with Porzio and Paniagua). This is only the third game in which "technically" he has given up more than four runs. He's not a winning ballplayer because we don't score runs for him. WIth Garland's support he'd have close to 11 wins.
  9. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 07:39 PM) Suddenly Contreras doesn't even deserve a win. He's only given up 2 runs in close to 6 innings. That's not bad.
  10. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) I understand he hasn't had much luck from the offense, but he still needs to find a way to get W's. I certainly don't think he is a 5th starter, but for some reason when he pitches we don't win as much, which to me is bad luck. Therefore JC is Bad luck, I guess. Wow. I suppose he's just suppose to shutout every team to "find some wins" In THREE of his wins this year the team has only scored TWO FREAKING RUNS or less. That's finding some wins. Most pitchers won't do that all year. The man deserves some easy wins.
  11. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) So if a guy had an ERA say of about .5 to 1 above Contreras (say Gil Meche) but had 3 or 4 more wins, would he be more of a #3 starter than Contreras? I think he was kidding. I hope....
  12. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 07:28 PM) His record indicates he is a 5th starter. He obvioulsy has #1 starter stuff, but for some reason he doesn't get the W's. Similar to Wood on the Cruds. But that's what I'm saying. A record means absolutely nothing. He gets NO run support. It's hard to win games when you offense scores no runs for you. He can't control that the offense won't score for him. You were kidding right.
  13. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) Problem is he always seems to make that 1 mistake that costs him the W, call it bad luck or whatever, either way, he doesn't get W's. Yes. That bad mistake is pitching on the days our offense sucks. He has given up more than 4 runs in only 2 of 18 starts. He has given up more than 3 runs in only 6 of 18 starts. It just always seems worse than it is because he works slow and walks a bunch of people.
  14. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 07:18 PM) Well, IMO, JC is a 5th starter right now, problem is we already have El Duque for that. JC should be kissing Garland's ass everyday, for helping cover up his inability to get W's. You're kidding right. If Jose had the run support that Garland has gotten this year he'd have double digit wins easily. The guy has given up 2 ER or less in 11 of his 18 starts this year. THat's incredible.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 07:16 PM) The closer the game for Contreras, the more he tries to be perfect and not let the hitter beat him. Thus, it equates to more walks, and more hanging forkballs. Contreras is better when he just pitches, and throws whatever he wants. I don't know. Considering he had an ERA under 4 this game (which should still be under 4), and the fact that we score ZERO runs for the guy for the most part, I'd say he's pitched pretty well in one run games. His wins are 2-1, 5-3, 2-1, 7-2, and 1-0. The ONLY way he's been able to get runs is to completely shut down the other team for the most part.
  16. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 07:15 PM) DJ said before the game that Contreras is something like 22-2 in his career when his team scores 3 runs for him. That is unreal. Just unreal. WTF is wrong with our guys when Jose is out there.
  17. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 07:08 PM) Great play by Uribe. Damn, if only Contreras pitched over that mistake earlier. He'd be looking great right now. If only Joe hadn't MADE that mistake earlier on a ball hit right at him.
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 06:45 PM) It's hard to wish for the best of both worlds, but the Sox would probably be right up there in runs scored against opposing relievers in the league this season, which should always give up hope. The Sox hitters have just got to work the counts as much as possible against Bonderman. That's good, but it's kinda scary for the playoffs. It's kinda funny too. We either score a lot at the beginning and then take the middle innings off, or don't score at all to start the game (mostly for Contreras) and then pile on the relievers. It's probably not even true, but it feels like we don't do a lot of damage in the middle innings. I wonder where we could find score by innings.
  19. Shouldn't be suprising. This team plays like crap when Jose is pitching. The man is 20 and freaking 2 when given 3 freaking runs. That's incredible. Score him some F'in runs.
  20. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 06:34 PM) That's what's wrong with Contreras. Guy strikes out 4 of the first 5 guys he sees, somehow gives up a 3-run homer. That's Joe's fault. THis inning should be over. Tough to give a good team 4 outs. Well. They're not good. A decent hitting team.
  21. Beautiful Joe. Just the pitcher you want to do it for too.
  22. Man Frank. Get the ball in the air. Second straight game.
