jphat007 replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in 2005 Season in Review
They GAWN!!! All of em. -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) I posted that after the homer in case you didn't notice. As I was being sarcastic. Oh ok. Haha. I couldn't tell.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) Uribe sucks LOL. Whoops.
-
QUIT SWINGING AT BALLS> THATS BALL FREAKING 3.
-
Gotta get 1 JOe.
-
UGH. Send him. Safe by a mile.
-
QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:12 PM) Well we did sweep the Dodgers though, barely, and we split w/ the Orioles. I think some of it has to do with the fact that the other teams are pumped up when they come in here w/ a big crowd. It seems like the Sox are a little to lax or something. The biggest crowds came in the two games we lost. GOOD JOB PAULIE. HOT HOT HOT>
-
QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:10 PM) Detroit will finish second in the division and will push hard for wild card.... Haha. They just split a series at home against KC. THey are awful.
-
Sammy goes deep in Minny. O's up 2-0. Kinda Ironic.
-
Awful. We choke when there are a lot of people in the house.
-
QUOTE(Finkelstein @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 07:33 PM) 4 runs through 5 innings isn't acceptable in any ballpark. I said if he goes another inning. Would it be great? no. Of course not. But for his first start back in our ballpark, 6IP 4ER wouldn't be terrible for a 5th starter.
-
QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 07:29 PM) Yeah, IMO he is just a 5th starter at this stage of his career. That's all we need him to be at this point. If he could go another inning, that wouldn't be all that bad in this ballpark. Playing at home, we have to be able to score more than 1 or 2 runs. I don't care how good our pitching is that just won't fly at home.
-
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 07:14 PM) bad call Looked like he was out.
-
Beautiful turn Tadahito!
-
Not a bad inning. The Maggs hit was a blooper. And Duque looked like he just wanted to throw a FPS to start the game and Inge did a great job of hitting and hit it out.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:10 AM) I'll agree with that.. and I have no problem with Paul thinking that.. however.. is it necessary to call 2 ex Sox great players when you're team is currently in first place having the best season in 80 years.. 12 games up, etc, etc..?? That's where I find this all funny.. and sad. Not just Paul.. but every single one of the guys whenever they are asked should be saying nothing but things about this team and the awesome year they are having. JMO.. Yah, I agree with a lot of that, but the media doesn't want to hear about that. They need a new angle. With Maggs coming back for the first time thats the angle. I'm sure when Paul was asked to comment on Maggs and what type of player he was, Paul said Maggs was the best he's ever played with which I think is pretty much true. I don't have any problem with that comment.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:01 AM) For the record I'm not making a big deal out of it.. just think, once again, it's funny that Paul is front and center calling another ex Sox player the "best he's played with". I'm sure Frank doesn't give a s*** what Paul says or thinks. And as for Maggs being better during that stretch.. nice numbers and production, but he isn't event close to being qualified to sniff Frank's jock if you want to compare #'s from Frank's most productive seasons. Oh I agree. Overall Frank is no doubt teh best. But Paul didn't play with Frank during those years. Maggs has been the while Paul was here.

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 07:59 AM) You do realize there are times to tell the truth and times to just shut your mouth, right? If your boss is an asshole, and someone asks what you think of your boss (who writes up company newsletters), are you going to say, "I think my boss is an asshole", because you always tell the truth?! Konerko has said some very questionable things, whether he believes them or not, this season. This team is playing as a TEAM...Konerko boarderlines on f***ing that up everytime he speaks. Examples: Royce Clayton is the best I've played with. Translation, Uribe sucks. (At least Uribe may think that after hearing such garbage) Maggs is the greatest player I've ever planed with. Translation, hell...I don't even know, idiot Paul, your on the best team you EVER been on, without Maggs...so don't go short-selling the guys your playing with now...how about that, truth telling f***er?! I can go on and on...bottom line is, just because you tell the truth doesn't make it good "leadership" decision. And I thought Valentine was always the best player in the locker room...I guarantee Paul (I change my mind on whos the best every week) Konerko has said that before. He tells what he believes is the truth, and he supports his friends. Obviously his "leadership" hasn't been that bad this season because everyone has said great things about Paul, and NO ONE has come out and said anything bad about what Paul is saying. If someone wanted to say something, you can bet the reporter would find that person. As it is, nobody in the clubhouse cares. Juan probably doesn't even know that Paul said Royce is the best SS (he meant defensively) hes played with. Why? HE DOESN"T CARE. None of them do.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 07:52 AM) Pot, kettle, black.. :rolly Haha. True, but I'm only making a big deal out of it because people act like Paul said something wrong. If he had said D'Angelo Jiminez was the best player I've ever played with that would be one thing, but he said Maggs, and that is true, and there is nothing wrong with telling everyone that. The only person it might affect is Frank, and it shouldn't, because deep down Frank has to know that Magglio was better from 99-04, though he wouldn't dare go out and say it out loud like Paul does.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 07:50 AM) Disagree. Plain and simple he's the one on the team with the biggest mouth - aside from Ozzie. That's the only reason they go to him. If by biggest mouth you means he tells the truth whenever he is asked, I guess you could say he has a big mouth. He doesn't care. Neither do his teammates or we would have heard something about it by now. And, obviously, it doesn't affect anybody's play on the team. Just worries a bunch of fans on the message boards.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 07:47 AM) That is simply hysterical... From the media point of view he is, and obviously from his fellow players, that voted him into the all star game, he is too. It's funny how people on message boards are the only ones making big deals about Paul's quotes. Nobody else is because nobody else cares.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 07:33 AM) I'd agree no one else is talking about it. No one else cares.. no one else has quotes about maggs in the papers.. just Paul. :rolly Beacuse Paul has been here the longest besides Frank for the most part, and Paul is the all-star/leader type of this team. He's the guy the media approaches. There is somebody like that on every team. It just so happens that he tells it like it is, and doesn't sugarcoat anything.
-
I don't think there is any question that Maggs was the best player from 99-04 on the Sox.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) I must have missed the meeting where it was decided that zone rating means anything So if you have better range and less errors that doesn't make you a gold glover above the guy you are comparing? What exactly do you look at then? -

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 02:27 PM) Besides the fact that Crede has 1/3 the errors and slaps him in ZR you are dead on. LOL. Great post. Just because Chavez has been very good in the past doesn't mean he's very good and deserves it this year.
