  1. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) Alright I've long pondered this so I'm going to bring it up. I've always wondered why so many fans hate a player because he makes such and such amount of money. Out here in SoCal tons of people hate Darren Dreifort cause he makes 11 million a year and is hurt. They call up on sports radio and try to call him an asshole, etc. I know many Bull fans hate AD because he makes big bucks. You have all those people that call A-Rod Pay-Rod. I don't get it, why hate a player because a team or owner is willing to give him money. If your going to hate a player hate it because of his production on th field or him being an ass to fans off the field or getting in trouble with the law. Its kind of one of my peeves. People always call players greedy (and yes there are plenty of greedy players) but fact is they are getting these multi million dollar offers from the owners. What do you want them to do, no, I'm going to turn down this 35 mill deal and sign for 20 million with some small payroll club. None of us would do that if you had a job offer (at a place you wanted to go to and a job you liked) for like 5 mill at some other company compared to the 100,000 your making now (Just throwing out some make believe numbers). The weird thing is that so many of these same fans are also prone to whining about how low the payroll is, no matter what the payroll actually is. Many of them also call up talk shows hating on the owners for being so "cheap." Doesn't make any sense to dump on the players for being "greedy" and then turn around and dump on the owners for not throwing even more money at the allegedly greedy players.
  2. QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) It's day 2 of the season after a thrilling opening day win, against a division rival on a nice day... and the join is absolutely barren. What am I missing here? Is it a built-in reluctance of this fan base to believe in the team this early? Or is this what we can expect the rest of the year? Seriously, I thought the fan base was a little energized after this offseason. Well, this certainly contradicts everything that the "spend it and they will come" crowd has been telling us. The Sox payroll is roughly double what it was in 2000, yet the attendance figures are still horrible. The simple fact is that the South Side is not a good place to have a baseball team so much so that once Reinsdorf no longer has anything to do with the team, it will likely wind up somewhere else, such as Indianapolis, where the metropolitan area is smaller than Chicago, but the fans are far more appreciative/supportive than on the South Side. Also, this sort of thing has been going on for more than a decade before Reinsdorf ever bought the team, so its isn't his fault.
  3. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 1, 2005 -> 06:34 AM) Interesting story by Kittle. I'm amazed that media didn't jump all over it. Like they did when Jimmy the Greek made his comments ... so on and so forth. The thing with Jimmy the Greek was that he was drunk when he made those comments and he was largely right anyways. He was a victim of political correctness.
  4. Frank is more important since he both plays more often and because he's a better hitter than Buehrle is a pitcher.
  5. QUOTE(Molto @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) so you are saying that the White Sox aren't going to go far because of Jon Garland? looks like I'll have to figure out that ignore feature after all. Welcome back Molto! Where were you the past several months?
  6. A.J. is a cancerous troll and as such has no business on the White Sox.
