I can't see Michigan getting a BCS slot. I could see Ohio State getting one, but not Michigan with three losses. Alabama, VA Tech and even Oregon would likely get the extra BCS at-large before Michigan. Penn State will not lose to Michigan State so you can erase that dream. Pencil in Michigan for either the Capitol One or Outback Bowl.

Sox Top 10 Prospects
QUOTE(Randar68 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) Problem is guys at his stage rarely "learn" plate discipline. In fact, it almost never happens... Is Haigwood your new Deininger? Rated ahead of Gio, Broadway and Liotta? Haigwood's ceiling isn't as high as any of those guys (in addition to about 3 others), wouldn't you agree? Haigwood is the kind of kid who has more stability, likelihood to become a major leaguer, but he doesn't have 1, 2, or #3 starter stuff, does he? I'm with you on the percentages and likelihoods, but Buehrle doesn't have 1, 2 or 3 starter stuff either. Some guys can just flat out pitch. I was really impressed with Haigwood, so count me in on the lovefest with Jason. But I did only see him twice and he still has a long way to go, so I am not here to pronounce him as the next Buehrle, but he is as close as I have seen - with a better breaking ball!

Stern fans wondering why "best of" was on today
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 06:43 PM) Yeah, I can pretty much guarantee you'll never be able to get you Dickens Cider any more. There is a 2 CD Mr. Obvious compilation due out. When you get it, burn it for me. Dicken's Cider was the single most funny bit I have ever heard on radio. I have like 12 or 13 Bob and Tom CD's and break one out on occasion. They never could make it in Alabama either (only tried in Mobile) because this is the buckle of the Bible Belt. Mr. Obvious and the Love Brothers were the best. If I knew how to convert a piece on a CD into a Real Media or Windows Media file, I'd post Dicken's Cider here for the brave to listen to. The thing I used to like about Bob and Tom is that they could dance all around what was allowed and used double ententre's to get across their meanings. They are by far the most polished radio show I have ever listened to.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 04:33 AM) I thought little league had a 'slaughter rule'. It does, after 4 innings. And it was a 4 inning game. Unfortunately we were the visitor so we had to bat 4 times.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 12:50 AM) Well first of all I dont like to mix sports.... they are very different from one another. 2nd it depends on how you view TO. I view him as something to laugh at.... and with every dumb thing he does I find it funny..... if you take him seriously than it pisses you off but the stuff he does is so dumb I just find it hilarious. Obviously his coach and teammates don't find it so hilarious.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 04:35 AM) I agree, problem is I don't think you can bump another team out of the bcs for ND with 1 loss, I just don't think that's fair to that team. That's what my beef is I guess, is that I think ND is going to get a bcs bid and I don't think they deserve it. I just hate the bcs. Put USC on anyone else's schedule and they would have two losses too. If don't see how you can look at the top 10-12 teams and tell me Notre Dame does not belong in the top 7 or 8, objectively, anyway. Fair isn't how many losses they have, but who the played and who they beat. Notre Dame's resume is just as good as Alabama's right now, and they are undefeated. Still don't see your point.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 04:24 AM) The difference is all those teams with the exception of OSU have 1 or no losses, you make a good point though. One or two losses, doesn't matter to me. Who is the best team and who has the best case for making that claim. Just like seeding in the NCAA Basketball Tourney, wins and losses are not the only thing that should be taking into account when ranking teams. At least, not in my opinion.

How was your weekend?
Mixed bag here....... Got a chance to relax which was welcomed. Watched some good football which was nice. Planning a move, which is a pain in the ass. Woke up to find out tornadoes wrecked part of my hometown. Found all my family was okay, so that was a relief, but the areas that were hard hit are areas I am very familiar with.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 03:17 AM) Besides Michigan who has ND beaten that is good? Besides Va Tech, who has Miami beaten? Besides Boise St. who has Georgia beaten? Besides Florida who has Alabama beaten? Who has Ohio State beaten? Besides GA Tech who has Va Tech beaten?? The same could be said for half the teams in the Top 10.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 01:51 AM) Personally I think Fullmer and there assinine two QB idea is what put this team in such a bad position. This is the most talented squad he's had in a while and I agree, Tenn's defense played well and ND did get quite a few points on non-offensive posessions. I really haven't seen enough Alabama games to comment too much on them. From what I have seen they do have a good defense and a solid enough offense (nothing potent though). Alabama has scored one offensive touchdown in their last three SEC games. They lost their top playmaker in the Florida game, and now their best offensive lineman (which is their weak spot) is done for the year. If they are to win out, they will have to beat LSU, Auburn and Georgia in consecutive games. I don't see it happening.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) I would put Notre Dame up against Ohio State and i do think Notre Dame is one of the top teams in the country however this talk that they are better than Penn State, Va Tech, Alabama, and Miami needs to stop. Those teams would crush Notre Dame if they played them head-to-head. Add UCLA to that list to. I'll give you Penn State and Miami as teams that might be better than Notre Dame, but Alabama and Virginia Tech have shown me nothing to think they would. Sure they COULD beat them, but to act as if they are that much better is a bit much. And UCLA? Yeah right!

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 01:40 AM) The way I see it, a team that can pass the ball can give ND fits, but most of the teams that are leading the way right now are teams that rely on rushing and good defense. Thats great and its working for them, but at the same time Notre Dame plays the run well and there offense is very well balanced and Quinn is playing near flawless football. Plus Weis flat out prepares this team week in and week out and calls outstanding offensive games. Hell, Tenn is supposed to have this great defense (and while there record is very poor) they still have a talented defensive unit and they got pretty rocked by the Irish (especially early in the game). As much as I hate Tennessee, I'll give their defense some credit. Notre Dame had a great first drive, but then Tennesse basically shut them down until the 4th quarter. ND's second TD came on a short drive after a Tenn. turnover. ND's third score was on the punt return. Tennessee's defense did their job, but their offense and special teams made it next to impossible for them to survive. Any defense will wear down if they are constantly fighting turnovers and bad field position.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) These are the only teams I would put above ND... 1. USC 2. Texas 3. Miami 4. Alabama 5. Ohio State Thats it for me, and this is coming from someone who will never be known as an ND homer. ND will be 9-2 heading into bowl season and will have one of the best offenses in the nation. Their only two losses were to two very good offensive teams in shootouts by a combined 6 points. Which is why I honestly would hesitate to put Alabama ahead of them. I think the next two weeks will expose Alabama and being a very good team, but not an elite team. As good as Bama's defense is, and it is VERY good, I don't think they could score with ND. I hate to compare scores, but I think they type of game each played against Tennessee tells a lot.

The problem with TO is that he is so freakin talented and he works hard at his craft. Unfortunately, it seems he works just as hard to destroy the team dynamic wherever he is.

Oklahoma high school team loses 112-2.
That is a pretty bad feeling on both sides when something like that happens. Many years ago, I coached a Little League team. In a city-wide tournament, my team's opening round game was against a team from another league, a league that was not very good. My team finished in 5th place out of 8 in our league and the team we were playing finished 5th in their league. We were at their place so we were the visiting team. After the first inning, the score was 13-0 and I was stopping kids from scoring, making them stop at 3B unless they were forced to go home. I took my best 4 players out of the game after the 1st inning. I only had 13 players, so that's the best I could do. I don't recall the exat final score, but I believe it was something like 33-0 or 33-1. It could have been 100-1 with no problems at all, if I allowed it. At the same time, I couldn't, nor wouldn't tell my kids to strike out or make outs on purpose. We swung at practically everything and did not take a walk. My rules after the first inning was do not walk, even if you have to try to hit a pitch in the dirt and do not take any extra bases unless forced. The game was not fun for anybody and was just that, embarassing. It was a really crappy feeling in that I couldn't stop it, I could only do what I could to slow it down. The talent level between the leagues was just that great. The last place team in our league would have killed their first place team. I certainly understand what it is like to be on the winning side of that type of game and would never want to be on the losing side, but nobody wins in that situation.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 03:58 AM) They have been good recently but really its a dumb franchise..... As for TO yes he is an ass and talks to much but hey he is arguably the best WR in the game and he did put his career on the line last year in the Super Bowl. If this suspension only is 1 game its really dumb since TO wasnt going to play anyway.... With TO the eagles would struggle to make the playoffs from the looks of it now w/out him I dont think they even will especially in that division. Actually it had been established that he would probably play on Sunday. He said as much in his interview. And even if he wasn't going to play, it gets him and the distraction out of their hair and costs him money, so you can't say it would have been dumb. There's a reason for everything.
