I was a little unsure about Miles at first, but the more I think about it, I think Miles is exactly what Michigan needs. He knows and understand what Michigan football means and their tradition, yet he is an agressive coach and is not afraid to take chances, which will separate him from his predecessors. I truly think the SEC somewhat forces coaches into somewhat of a gambler's mentality and Miles has taken that to new levels this year. I really think at Michigan, while he will take chances, he won't coach in a such a risky way. Apparently, money will not be an issue in terms of his salary and it appears Michigan will give him the budget he wants for recruiting and assistants/staff. While Miles resume isn't as strong as some may want, I think he brings exactly what Michigan needs. He took over at OSU and in his first season (4-7) beat #4 rival Oklahoma, knocking them out of the NC picture. The next year they went 8-5 again beating Oklahoma, ranked #2 at the time and winning their bowl game. They followed that up with a 9-4 season which included a Cotton Bowl berth, OSU's first New Year's Day bowl in 55 years. His last season they went 7-5 losing the Alamo Bowl in what was a transition time as he was leaving for LSU. At LSU he has simply had the best record in the SEC during his tenure. Some argue he won with Nick Saban's players. There was an interesting comparison on one of Michigan's boards this week and it showed, based on the final Rivals rankings of each player, that Michigan actually had more "talent" than LSU did, yet LSU is considered the most talented team in the country. The LSU players that are starting weren't as highly regarded coming in as people seem to believe (some were very highly regarded) so that tells me the current LSU coaches have had something to do with their current talent level. I think he will bring a much more agressive style in recruiting, getting top quality assistants and game play into the Big Ten, which will help Michigan, but also the conference in general over the next five years or so. One could say that Zook did the same at Illinois.

Reports are now that Ga Tech DC Jon Tenuta will join Les Miles staff as Michigan's DC. This would be an excellent pickup, IMO.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 08:56 PM) http://nwahomepage.com/content/fulltext/?s...ec&cid=9240 That would not only be crazy, but stupid in my opinion. I guess nothing would surprise me in the SEC. One thing that goes on in the SEC that I think is total horsecrap is how all the coaches keep moving around and keep getting contract extensions because their name always pops up. Think it has anything to do with the fact that Jimmy Sexton is the agent for 6 of the 12 SEC coaches?? He continually plants his coaches names out there so they get more money. I wouldn't have such a problem with it, but he negotiates a contract, then another client gets a huge deal raising the bar. So he floats out the first client's name with potential job openings to allow that client to get more money in essence generated by what he got for his other client. It just seems borderline unethical to me.

New Cell Phone
QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 08:20 AM) Rex, you will find fans of each model you listed. Because using them for a phone is your first priority, see how they feel held to your ear. I made the mistake of buying an early "smart phone" and hated the too wide feel of the device when talking on the phone. I felt like I was holding a book to my mouth. I was using a Palm Pilot and was going to merge into one device. I'm back to two devices and am waiting for a form factor that I like. Thanks for the advice Tex. I have looked at each one and wanted to see how they felt in my hand, but I didn't think about actually simulating talking on it. I can see where that would make a difference. Any other advice is greatly appreciated.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 06:59 PM) And those fans would be? 11-1 in the Big Ten is impressive, even with a bad game against Illinois. OSU was 7-1 in the Big Ten and 4-0 against complete patsies. 7-1 in the Big Ten this year is not all that impressive. OSU is going to have to earn some respect in a bowl game, whichever that is, because they haven't earned much on the field this year.

QUOTE(The Bones @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 03:40 PM) Wisconsin Accepts Bid to Outback Bowl I thought that these types of bowls would wait until after this weekends games to start inviting teams with the possibility of Illinois getting bumped up to a BCS bowl and everything. I guess since they played in the Capital One Bowl last year this was the best they could do so they took it. Wisky played in the Capitol One the past two years, so they were not a good option for it this year (the bowls also like to keep things mixed up). It's my understanding that if Illinois bumps into the BCS, then Michigan will go to the Capitol One Bowl. If not, Michigan will likely slide to the Alamo, but unless something new is out, they could go to the Champs Sports instead. On the Michigan coaching front, rumors today were flying out of Louisiana that Miles is all but a done deal at Michigan and to expect some kind of announcement early next week after LSU plays in the SEC Championship this weekend.

And another exceprt from the very same blog on MGoBlog that included the plane reference you posted..... 6. IMO, the most likely scenario: Michigan has talked quite a bit with Ferentz. The general tone of the conversations has been of the sort when you have a really good job interview and the last guy is just like "well... we really like you. Do you like us? We really like you." Like in the job interview, you assume you have been offered the job but the formal decision has not been made. 7. The high level summary of my beliefs based on everything I've heard and read: Ferentz is the #1 candidate and either has already been or will be offered the job. I have no idea whether he'd take it or not but if you put a gun to my head I would say he turns it down.

Heads, MGoBlog seems to be the only source for this thing right now. I am not saying there is no credibility, but he has everything to gain and nothing to lose by sticking his neck out while no one else is right now. All other sources I read just aren't buying what he is selling. That is not to say that Ferentz may not end up getting the job, but it seems he has put himself out on a limb on this one a bit too early. Another post on Rivals (no clue of its credibility): Channel 4 reports that the flight from Iowa City to Willow Run Reply -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- was a frieght run

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 11:56 PM) MGoBlog: A Dassault Falcon 20 left Willow Run at 6 EST and arrived in Cedar Rapids a little more than an hour later. After about 15 minutes it left, returning to Willow Run. The return leg is scheduled to touch down in approximately 30 minutes. Despite rumors that Ferentz (who, again, is a serious candidate) has been offered the job (and some, even, that he had accepted), sources close to the situation say that’s not likely. As a few astute posters have observed, Ferentz couldn’t officially be offered the job until after it had been posted for a week - it went up today - though athletic director Bill Martin could certainly have come to an agreement behind the scenes before interviewing others, then gone through the process. There have been rumblings of flights from Willow Run, MI to Cedar Rapids, IA and back again tonight. While such a flight has taken place, there is no indication that a plane has been sent to pick up Ferentz. In fact, the jet in question is not the one Michigan typically uses (and used throughout the basketball search) for such occasions. In addition, Bill Martin would typically accompany a coaching candidate on such a trip. He is currently in Livonia for the annual football bust.

Don't get too excited about the Ferentz/Michigan rumors. The rumors started on mgblog and were stated as just that, rumors. The blog theorized that Michigan had or would offer the job to Ferentz and that he would decline, not accept, out of loyalty to Iowa. For those that don't know, Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman hired Ferentz at Iowa so there is a connection there. Rumors started to fly everywhere over the weekend, all reverting back to this one blog. An Iowa TV station even jumped into the fray last week, still with no more substantial sources than this blog and chatter surrounding the sources. The TV station even credited the mgoblog as its source. So folks we have one big circular reference here. The problem with this is, in no way do I believe that Michigan pulls an Alabama/Rodriguez and offers the job to someone who doesn't take it. There will only be one offer and that is the one that is accepted. Until then there very likely will be feelers such as "if offered the job, will you take it" either directly to the coach or more likely to his intermediaries/agent. Think of the movie The Firm, when Tom Cruise stepped into his initial interview with the firm. Tom was told they had an offer for him in a sealed envelope and that any lawyer worth the offer could tell them what was in it without opening it. Michigan doesn't have to make the offer without knowing what the answer will be. Ferentz is being considered and there is a faction inside Michigan that thinks he can carry the program with the values it expects. All that said, if I am a betting man, I am still betting on Miles getting the job. I'll say it's 68% Miles right now.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 12:00 AM) Taking off my orange colored glasses, IU's fate rests moreso on their rebounding and defense. They seem to think early on this season that they can just run people out of the gym with their offense, which won't always be the case. If they defend and rebound for 40 minutes every game (which they did last year IMO), they will be a legit top 10 team in the nation. But as Lute Olsen will tell you, when you have a team that talented, getting them to buy in and do the little things is easier said than done. I can definitely see some of that going on right now. They are good at defense for the first 10 seconds or at going for steals, but if they don't get the steal they are chasing, which usually leads to a wide open shot. Believe it or not, they actually outrebounded Xavier (I was shocked too). I think it is safe to say that Xavier certainly made more of their rebounds though. This is a young team that has the opportunity to be very good. But they are not very good yet.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 11:26 PM) The post about Butler might be the most pathetic thing you'll find in this thread. Want to beat them? PLAY DEFENSE!! I watched the game, and at least 3/4 of the 3 point shots Butler made were unguarded. Nobody to blame but yourself there buddy. I was impressed by Arizona tonight. They did lose in OT at Kansas, but they gave a really good team (even without Collins) a hell of a game and actually tried on defense, which is rare for the Wildcats. As for Indiana, last night made clear what is obvious already: they go as far as Eric Gordon takes them and aren't good enough to beat NCAA Tourney calibur teams unless EJ plays really well. They will win the very weak Big 10, but I don't like their chances in March unless EJ gets on a Carmelo-esque hot streak at the right time. You may be right, but I am not buying your assessment of Indiana. Bassett shot 4-13 (1-7 3's), Ellis was 5-12 with several shots in and out, Crawford was 3-13. Four players had four fouls. There were a lot of things that could have gone right last night with Gordon struggling that would have kept IU in the game or given them a chance to win. I do think they looked a little lost as Gordon struggles and I don't think they utilize DJ enough in the offense. I think they dribble too much and don't space the floor well when they do, making many of their "dishes" into tight spots. Those are all things that should improve. There is no doubt Gordon is option #1, but there is enough talent to enable them to win games when he struggles. They just have to figure out how to make that happen. That's what early season games are for.

To save the provider debate, for the purpose of this thread we are choosing Sprint phones only. There is a reason, but it is too boring to share, but it is legit. Below are five models I am looking at. Here is some basic info. -- I currently have a basic, durable Nextel. -- I no longer have a need for Nextel, so that is not a factor in the phone. -- Obviously, I am used to using the phone for a phone and that is it -- I realize I am for the most part giving up the durability I am used to, but I'm okay with that -- In order, my priorities are: phone usage, abasic web browsingbility to check email, camera and limited text messaging -- Assume at this point, money is not a deciding factor -- I could see myself utilizing features of a PDA, but am not familiar enough to know that I would for sure Phone Comparison The phones are compared above..... In no particular order. 1. Palm Treo 755p 2. HTC Mogul 3. Blackberry Pearl 8130 4. Motorola MOTO Q 9c 5. Sanyo Katana DLX (champagne or silver, NOT pink)

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) Missing two. They added a 5th BCS Bowl last year(The NC game is now its own entity), a big part of that because the Rose Bowl wanted to preserve its BT/PT match-up(Although moreso because someone will be making millions of more dollars). Refresh my memory. A few years ago the Rose Bowl did not get their matchup. I think Iowa landed elsewhere in the BCS, but I cannot recall the details. Anyone remember the circumstances??

Over 21 Thread - Anything Alcohol - :-)
If I'm drinking liquor its likely Crown & 7up. Southern Comfort also is a good choice, with 7up or Coke. If you are going to drink Amaretto, pay the extra few bucks and get Di Saronno. It is head and shoulders above the basic stuff. Another good drink is a Red Snapper - Crown, Amaretto (Di Saronno) and Cranberry It's pretty sweet, yet has a kick. Good girl drink or for a guy (like me) that doesn't care for the real hard stuff If you are trying to find a good drink for a girl, go for "the red fruity drink" (RFD). Just mix 2 or 3 liquors, 2 juices and grenadine. Shake and serve. Voila! You have the red fruity drink. When I used to bartend and a girl ordered something I didn't know or a Sex on the Beach, Alabama Slammer, etc, I just made the RFD. Sometimes the same girl would order 2 or 3 in a night and I would make the different each time and she never knew. But she was always happy and loved the drink. Suggested liquors - vodka, rum, white tequila, peach schnapps, Malibu rum, Southern Comfort, etc. Suggested mixers - orange, cranberry, grapefruit, sweet & sour mix, grenadine Garnish with lemon, orange, cherry or even lime
