  1. QUOTE (G&T @ May 16, 2008 -> 01:08 AM) No but we did get a "just missed it" and "Daggummit." So it wasn't a total waste. 1 out. classic hawk
  2. QUOTE (zenryan @ May 16, 2008 -> 01:07 AM) did Hawk yell STRETCH on PK's fly out? that's what I'm wondering? I have these angels announcers
  3. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 16, 2008 -> 01:04 AM) Hawk has lost any ability to judge a fly ball. LOL!
  4. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 16, 2008 -> 01:03 AM) K Rod getting squeezed big time yeah. it was a small plate.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2008 -> 12:52 AM) Like I said, the fielding stats for him are worthless due to the official scoring luck he's had. that's like saying a pitcher is pitching at an all star level becaue he has had a bigger plate to work with. Also the "scoring luck" in not fact.
  6. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 16, 2008 -> 12:51 AM) Here is the example of Hawk and his pick and choose blame game. He is now blaming this game on the popup dropping, but seems to have forgotten about his favorite son over at 3rd not making a routine play. both plays are eqaully to blame imo
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2008 -> 12:49 AM) Ryan Howard's up to 9 homers, and IIRC, he's always been a late starter. OC has not been good with the glove so far. He's got some very favorable official scoring, or else he could have 5-7 errors. regardless, http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/fieldi...umn=fieldingPct
  8. QUOTE (Wanne @ May 16, 2008 -> 12:46 AM) Is there really any reason to sign OC after this season?!?....no. I'll take Juan over this dude any day of the week. wow. it's mid-May. I guess there is no hope for Ryan Howard or Prince Fielder either. Ocab is solid with the glove and I am sure he will get to his career averages before the year is over, relax.
  9. Sucks Alexei had to bat in that situation. Hope he steals now
  10. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ May 15, 2008 -> 07:04 PM) 2 for 4 w/ a homer and a steal. The guy is unreal. Houston has him for a steal, too. His contract averages about $14 mil per year. For the numbers he puts up, that's a great deal. 14 game hitting streak that and it's not a cheap hitting streak either.
  11. QUOTE (WCSox @ May 15, 2008 -> 07:39 PM) How much of a bargain would it have been if the Rays would have given Rocco Baldelli a $40 million deal in his second year? I like what the Marlins did with Hanley Ramirez, given that he's essentially a hybrid of A-Rod and Ricky Henderson and has serious HOF potential (and was one HR short of a 30/50 season last year). But I didn't see the same level of talent in Maggs or Carlos Lee back then - or Carlos Quentin now. What the Rays did with Evan Longoria reeks of desperation. I agree with the Baldelli example. I don't think anyone is comparing Q,Maggs or Clee to Ramirez. Ramirez, received 70 mil over 6 years. That's not even close to what Q would get now or Lee and Ordonez back then.

  13. QUOTE (WCSox @ May 15, 2008 -> 06:25 PM) I'm not sure that Kenny would've wanted Maggs and El Caballo on the down-sides of their careers, so those situations may not be applicable. You see the topic is about extending a player 1 or 2 seasons after a players' major league debut. In comparison to similar deals given out the last couple months, Maggs would have received an 8 year extension somewhere between 2000-01 and Lee 2001-02. Hypothetically speaking of course, how much of a bargain would it have been to have them each on the payroll at about 5-6 mil per year until 2010? I can see why teams are operating this way (especially small market teams). It kind of reminds me how the bears have been doing business under Angelo.
  14. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ May 15, 2008 -> 04:03 PM) It's pop. I hate people down here who call it soda or coke. a little harsh or misworded?
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 15, 2008 -> 04:06 PM) Slightly off topic, but the Carlos Lee trade is one of the more fascinating moves I've ever seen us make. In terms of market talent value, we were ripped off at an epic level in that trade. However, Pods was a catalyst and one of the big reasons for the 2005 World Championship, and Vizcaino was a valuable, rubber arm type guy that ate innings in that pen for large portions of that season. After 2005? We got almost nothing out of either of them (Luis was gone actually), while C Lee continues to produce for other teams. So talentwise, we were hosed bad in that trade, but it was a big reason we won it all in 2005 so it was worth it. Just fun to look at a move like that. I'm still fine with the CLEE trade to this day for obious reasons. We probably would have lost him (after 2006) anyway.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 15, 2008 -> 03:36 PM) That's interesting, where are your parents from? My mom and dad both grew up in Indiana/Chicago .
  17. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ May 15, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) We certainly haven't had a young player perform this way out of the gate since 2003. There's a reason you haven't seen that reaction before. It's been a while. I guess I was a excited over josh fields last year, not like this though. Carlos Lee and Magglio Ordonez are the last 2 that come to mind for me.
  18. QUOTE (Wanne @ May 15, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) If you stop and think about this for a sec...if Kenny would have sent BA to the DBacks instead of Young in the Javy deal and BA did fairly miserable at the plate (although very good D)...in all likelihood the DBacks would have held on to Quentin. that's a good point actually.
  19. I was born and raised in Chicago and call it "soda".
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 15, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) Good point on Braun, but he's an AWFUL defender with no true position right now which hurts his cause, plus I think he could have got significantly more money if he had been a harder bargain. He is awful on defense. I also think the fact that he does not draw walks will eventually catch up on him , pitchers might be a little more cautious with their pitch selection.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 15, 2008 -> 02:45 PM) With where he is in relation to FA, I don't think that's a fair amount of $. For 8 years, with a guy who's only 5 years away from FA, you'd have to go to Hanley money. 8 years, $70 million guaranteed, I might see as more fair, that's a hell of a team discount, but that's a hell of a lot of injury insurance also. Considering Braun got 8 Years/ 45 Mil Braun proved himself over the course of almost a full season last year and for the same timespan Q has this year. Q is a lot less proven, may be injury prone and plays a less valuable position 3b>>LF. Of course Q will likely be our future rightfielder. Still, 3b>RF. If Kenny waits until the end of the year Q will probably command a pricetag of 8 years 50-60 mil imo (given Q keeps up his current pace).
