  1. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:34 PM) Rock, I just wonder what the haul for Jackson would have been if it was strictly spects. If this was a complete rebuild you dont add Frasor, you just see who will give you the most spects. Right, but Frasor, Thornton, Ohman and Sale are big on teams wish lists right now. You can get rid of 2 of them with no real effect on the major league team (though trading Sale is stupid)
  2. Anyone familiar with the Phillies minor league system?
  3. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:31 PM) Heads, This trade was a buy and sell. Which is also part of the Sox problem, they dont have any real direction, just middling. Well he just stocked his pen with attractive trade pieces and in theory brought on a minor leaguer to step into the rotation if we trade Gavin (in theory).
  4. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:30 PM) The confusing thing is that I still don't know if we are buyers or sellers yet. Payroll cutting is somewhat selling. We arent unloading anything that in theory makes us weaker at the moment, only different.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:27 PM) At least we got rid of Teahen. It's funny how badly we wanted to get rid of Jackson. Very strange we got no bats for him. I understand the contract situation, but the team really seemed intent on dumping Edwin. Coop must think he's a bum. After all, we are 'all-in' and we dumped a guy we at one point acquired to help us win the pennant allegedly. My conclusions. - We still need offense, not pitching. - Coop must be convinced Humber is good. - Thank God Teahen is gone. He'll probably start hitting now but I don't care. - I would think Thornton is next. I can't imagine anybody giving up much for him any more. I mean he gets hit now. Like last night with that meatball on the single up the middle. - Rasmus sounds like Rios to me. I am not mad we didn't get him. Dull trade. I can't see how anybody thinks this trade helps us much. I guess the righty reliever can ease the workload on Crain and the lefty can replace Matt. KW is all about taking on pitching, we are very weak in the upper minors.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:26 PM) This better mean they know they can bring back Pujols next year. I would have looked for young pitching then if I was them, not relievers.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:24 PM) Huh? Toronto has a consensus top 3 system in baseball. It was a response to the earlier comments about Law loving their system for no reason. And seriously, your break? Just all talk?
  8. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:20 PM) What else happens? There are more moves being made, especially depending on what happens today. Also, at least we arent the f***ing Cards. What a bad haul for a guy with POTENTIAL to be good. I know they have a replacement in the wings, but you would have though you could get more than Dotel and CPat as throw ins. Rasmus should have netted a top 2 prospect.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:15 PM) As they certainly should be; LaRussa's done a fine job with that team, but the Rasmus situation has been a complete joke this year. His personal vendetta cost them a lot here. Secondly, the White Sox, had they prioritized winning baseball, could have had Rasmus for a similar sweetheart deal. There's no reason not to toss them Thornton and Reed and enjoy a future built around Colby Rasmus, Dayan Viciedo, Gordon Beckham, and even Carlos Quentin. Nobody is building around Rasmus and Beckham as they stand today. There is still alot of HOPE in your theory.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) Please. Tampa has won two of the last three division titles in that same division. Toronto is coming. They have the best GM in baseball and a WAVE of talent on the horizon. They dont have the talent of TB, and I thought their minor league system was overvalued? When are you taking your break?
  11. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:00 PM) Wouldn't be so sure about that one. One more playoff team is added next season. And serious talks about the removal of divisions and possible realignment, mean good news for Jays. That bodes well for Sox too as they dont have to face the Central as much. So speculating that an entire realign doesnt happen, they are still not making the playoffs. Better record than us this year and 13 games back in 4th place.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:59 AM) Give me a break, 90% of us know who Rasmus is. And now STL has trapped him in baseball purgatory in Toronto.
  13. Jays fans are probably pretty excited about getting Rasmus. However this will certainly die back down when they realize they have zero shot at winning their division or even making the playoffs any time soon.
  14. QUOTE (TheHugeUnit @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:51 AM) Yeah but Paul Konerko's old. And having an amazing year, and signed for several more.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:49 AM) It tells me one thing, the Sox and Cards did talk about a deal surrounding Thornton and Jackson plus a prospect. Yup. However Thornton is more expensive and signed late into his career.
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:46 AM) Wow, I take it back. I was reading something else. I thought Asher Wojciechowski was involved. As that is what I read at a Blue Jays site. Yeah, we dropped the ball here. I'm f***ing shocked. I'm taking a break from this team. When does this break start? Because you said this like an hour ago.
  17. QUOTE (TheHugeUnit @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:46 AM) Quick question would you do John Danks for Ivan Nova and Austin Romine? Maybe even toss in Laird, not sure of your 1B/3B position Paul Konerko plays 1B for us. And no.
  18. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:37 AM) The Indians would do the deal now... but Beltran is refusing so far... doesn't want to go to Cleveland.
  19. On his way to play on as many teams at Matt Stairs. This will be the 6th trade involving him.
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:33 AM) The people that like Stewart had better be right because he's really the one guy that can salvage the entire Daniel Hudson/Edwin Jackson saga of the last year. I don't think Frasor can, although he is a decent reliever. Holmberg+Hudson is better than anything we are getting in this trade.
  21. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) Any word on moves the Indians and Tigers might be working on to counter this? Indians are hard after Beltran.
  22. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:28 AM) BA did have him as the Blue Jays #1 in 09, and #5 in 10. And Jays fans thought they could get more than Jackson for Stewart. I dont mind it, I am actually surprised KW took one of their top prospects. Usually its a huge WHO??
  23. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:22 AM) Im actually liking this deal a bit, not overly impressed but really not that bad. We also arent done. And lets say this money allows us the flexibility to bring back Buehrle, that would be a nice bonus. However I believe that we are in for alot more movement based on what happens this afternoon.
  24. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:19 AM) I came to my conclusion based on him having a very mediocre year in AA (4.20 ERA/1.41 WHIP/10.1 H per 9 inn) for a guy who will be 25 in two months. If he were so good as a prospect, why are 21-year-old prospects hitting him so damn hard? I know I am not a scout and can't see his stuff, but his lack of success this year is quite worrisome. But you havent seen him play. The guy had success at AA and AAA previously. We dont know what he's working on down there. All we know is he is ranked highly, higher than any prospect in our system right now. And we got 10 million, and got rid of Teahen, AND got a really good affordable late inning reliever. Thats not bad.
