  1. Whatever happened to that pitcher (I think his name was Lujan) that the Sox got for Chris Stewart? I think he was in sinle A last year. Was he in ST camp with the Sox this year? What are the Sox' expectations of him for the next couple of years? BTW, anyone know how Stewart has been doing this spring? Is he expected to be in the Majors this year?
  2. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) Pods, Erstad, Dye = OF Terrero = 4th OF That's pretty much how I see it and I was OK with that as long as I knew a healthy Anderson was in AAA playing everyday, ready to join the team if needed. Now, if Brian is indeed injured seriously, I'm not comfortable with the outfield stuation at all. At least we knew Brian could play major league defense in CF.
  3. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 07:30 PM) I'm a Rowand fan--no abuse, please!--BUT what happened to Brian looked serious. It was painfully reminiscent of that godawful injury that Garciaparra suffered when starting towards first base a few years ago. I hope it's not that severe, because he lost a whole season I think. I wish him the best and hope it's just a minor tweak. Somehow I think it's not. Man, injuries to the groin or those inner thigh muscles--been there, done that. They HURT and take forever to heal. I'd rather break a bone. At least that's only six weeks. I doubt we'll hear much until tomorrow at the earliest. I hope it's not that serious but I'm afraid it might be. If Anderson is hurt enough where he can't play for months, the Sox are in bad shape for a backup plan in CF. At least having Brian at AAA assured the Sox of a good defensive alternative with at least some major league experience should Erstad get injured. Now all they have is Terrero and a few not yet ready minor leaguers (Sweeney, Owens). This is not good for a team contending for first place in baseball's toughest division!
  4. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 07:25 PM) You are correct, Rowand has been horrible this spring .154/.190/.256 Oh brother -- I can see where this thread is heading.
  5. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 07:12 PM) And yet, silliness aside, he's hitting .276/.353/.448 in Arizona -- better than Grinder can say. I guess that proves he's way better than Iguchi, too. And what's Terrero hitting? Spring training stats mean almost nothing most of the time. Why did you mention "Grinder"??? Anderson has been looking bad at the plate the past two games he's played. That swing today looked sick, and I'm afraid he hurt himself enough to miss some time. I hope he's OK. Still, the kid's not quite ML ready yet, IMHO. The question is, how bad is he hurt and how does this affect his chances of making the club now? And most importantly, how does this affect the White Sox opening day roster?
  6. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 07:09 PM) Heh, BA had approximately 0% chance of being in Chicago to start the season even if he had hit for 2 cycles today, sadly. Yay for Pods/Erstad/Dye outfields!! Any news on his condition? So far I can't find anything...
  7. Brian Anderson injured himself on a swing this afternoon and couldn't complete running to first base. He left the field limping. Any word/update on his condition? How does this affect his chances of starting on the 25 man roster now? Please post any updates here. I haven't been able to find any news yet. Brian Anderson has the potential to be a good player, but after watching him at the plate Thursday and again today, it's obvious he's not quite major league ready yet. He keeps jumping back at every strike over the inside part of the plate and the opposition is beginning to pound him inside pitch after pitch. He looked silly on that swing on which he hurt himself today. I hope he's OK so he doesn't have to go on the DL, but it may be better for him to start the season in AAA so he can work on his new approach at the plate while starting everyday. If the Sox need him, he's only a phone call away.
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 09:36 AM) Keep telling yourself that Perez serves no purpose when Santana, CC, Cliff Lee, Rodgers, and the rest of the lefties are shutting down Thome killing our attack. To me Perez needs to be on this club, or we will have another aenmic attack against lefties and we will wind up short again. We havent had a real good right handed stick off the bench to counter the lefties in a while. I agree with you. But again, I only want Perez on the roster if Ozzie intends to start him at DH in place of Thome against lefties. If not, he's a waste of a roster space, and Mackowiak is much more valuable to have on the bench.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 08:04 PM) Replace the currently-injured Perez with Terrero and I think you're looking at your opening day lineup. I could live with that. Anderson could be starting every day in AAA and he's only a phone call away if the Sox need him.
  10. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 07:48 PM) My biggest fear by large is that the OF plan is Pods-Erstad-Dye with Mackowiak and Ozuna as the backups with Perez making the roster. Shudder.
  11. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 11:44 AM) Why on earth would we keep Perez and get rid of Mack? Other than his defensive play in CF (which is 100% not his fault), he was pretty much exactly what the Sox wanted him to be last year. People seem to forget that, and get lost in his problems playing a position he himself said he should only play in an emergency. I wouldn't have a problem with the Sox keeping Perez over Mack if and only if they intend to use Perez as the primary DH vs. LHP. Otherwise, he's just a waste of a roster space if he's only going to be a RH pinch hitter and third backup at 1B. I agree with everything you wrote about Mackowiak. Unfortunately, Ozzie misused him last year and may not use him wisely again this year.
  12. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 12:14 PM) We had to send Rowand down a few times. It was ultimately good for him. Might be a nice wakeup call for BA if he gets sent down. And if it totally destroys his confidence? He was never fit for the big leagues to begin with, then. Ditto to all the above. After watching Anderson jumping back out of the way at every strike over the inside corner this afternoon, it appears that maybe starting the season in AAA may be the best thing for both him and the Sox. Not to say that Brian will never be a good major leaguer, but he doesn't appear to be quite there yet. QUOTE(bad at best @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 07:25 PM) This team in the next 4-5 years needs Anderson hitting .280 with 15-20 HRs and playing amazing defense, he will do that somewhere. I guess not here. He may very well do that here in the next 4-5 years, but most probably not this year.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 12, 2007 -> 04:35 PM) I think Aardsma is out but Farmer isn't nice enough to tell me who's in to pitch. Instead, he's telling me about a pulled pork sandwich. He's been talking about that sandwich since Saturday.
  14. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 11:26 AM) Interesting. The Sox JUST reported to camp, haven't played a game and many of you are freaking out. Is it possible...just POSSIBLE that Erstad could have even a good season? Y'know, last chance kinda thing? Or that Anderson knocks the snot out of the ball? Or that Podsednik, when healthy, can be a .350 OBP guy? Relax. They haven't even started to pitch to each other yet. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with trying Iguchi in the 7th spot again. Why not? Try it. It's not like his job depends on it. You make too much sense to be posting on this thread.
  15. QUOTE(bad at best @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 12:25 PM) I think Erstad could bring back some of the team chemistry that we lost when we failed to resign Carl "T-rex" Everett. I certainly hope so.
  16. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 27, 2007 -> 02:34 PM) My big thing is Mark is saying the right things, he's saying optimistic things to Sox fans. Buehrle said to the media at Soxfest that KW stated he (Buehrle) would not be in a Sox uniform in 2008. KW never said that. Maybe that's why KW made his comments to the media yesterday.
  17. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 6, 2007 -> 12:46 PM) Just got out of the car, heard an interesting interview with Mark Buehrle. It was a lot of BS about offseason hunting, and then the question was raised about his wearing a Cardinals hat at the World Series. Mark stated that he's never been shy about the fact that he's a Cardinals fan. He was raised that way, he always will be that way, BUT he said he wanted to go on record that if he were offered the same contract by the Cardinals and the White Sox he would "100% sign with Chicago." Chicago is where his heart is, and where he wants to stay. Just thought you would all like to hear that. I do like hearing that.
  18. In 2007, Sisco will either be in the Sox pen or starting at Charlotte.
  19. QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 11:05 PM) I know NOTHING about this case. But if Uribe is involved in a murder, uh I don't want him on the team. Get rid of the bum if that is the case. That said ... I have no idea of the facts of the case. But involved in a murder?? If true, Cmon. Get rid of him. There was no murder.
  20. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 02:10 AM) And it is Chisoxfn's interpretation of the meaning of this information that leads him to say that this trade was a good one. Would the rest of us interpret the information that way? If the info is that Brandon has a torn rotator cuff, then that would be one thing. But if the info is that the Sox scouts see something particularly great in Danks, then that is another thing entirely. Or is it about JR and the payroll (in the near future)? Or is it something else ambiguous? We really have no idea what this "information" tells us about how good this trade is. Don't know if this is the "inside information" in question or not, but I found this interesting: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/unfiltered/?p=116
  21. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 09:06 PM) I think it is time for somebody to cue the Haeger fan club sig. Any members besides Pratt and me? Count me in.
  22. QUOTE(TheOcho @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) So do you like Floyd as our 5th starter? Then eventually us bringing up Gio Gonzalez or Danks to try and fill that hole when Floyd f***s up? And you don't know if Danks is going to be a ton better in 2 years. Haeger is going to be a good fifth starter. Masset should complete the bullpen. Floyd, Danks, Gio et al give the Sox good SP prospects in the minors. KW knows what he's doing.
  23. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 06:34 PM) CF relief will be by either Owens or Sweeney in my opinion. Mack only in emergencies. I don't know diddly about this guy Terrero we signed. Sweeney is not going to be sitting on the bench as a backup. As it stands right at this moment Terrero is the best candidate for backup CF.
  24. QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 10:07 PM) he has a lot of talent, but wasnt he hitting around .340 or something, and if he did and then finished at .302 i would be scared that he might be really streaky, which the sox should stay away from (personally i believe we need a guy that will consistently have a hit or two and can walk regularly) Rios missed time with a severe staph infection and slumped when he first returned.
  25. Buster Olney reports that Toronto may move Alex Rios. Apparently they are looking for starting pitching. Rios can play CF or RF. He could start in CF for the Sox in 2007 and move to RF in 2008 if Dye leaves. Any thoughts pro or con? Does anyone see a possible match for a trade between the Sox and Jays for Rios? Discuss.
