  1. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 11:26 AM) Interesting. The Sox JUST reported to camp, haven't played a game and many of you are freaking out. Is it possible...just POSSIBLE that Erstad could have even a good season? Y'know, last chance kinda thing? Or that Anderson knocks the snot out of the ball? Or that Podsednik, when healthy, can be a .350 OBP guy? Relax. They haven't even started to pitch to each other yet. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with trying Iguchi in the 7th spot again. Why not? Try it. It's not like his job depends on it. You make too much sense to be posting on this thread.
  2. QUOTE(bad at best @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 12:25 PM) I think Erstad could bring back some of the team chemistry that we lost when we failed to resign Carl "T-rex" Everett. I certainly hope so.
  3. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 27, 2007 -> 02:34 PM) My big thing is Mark is saying the right things, he's saying optimistic things to Sox fans. Buehrle said to the media at Soxfest that KW stated he (Buehrle) would not be in a Sox uniform in 2008. KW never said that. Maybe that's why KW made his comments to the media yesterday.
  4. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 6, 2007 -> 12:46 PM) Just got out of the car, heard an interesting interview with Mark Buehrle. It was a lot of BS about offseason hunting, and then the question was raised about his wearing a Cardinals hat at the World Series. Mark stated that he's never been shy about the fact that he's a Cardinals fan. He was raised that way, he always will be that way, BUT he said he wanted to go on record that if he were offered the same contract by the Cardinals and the White Sox he would "100% sign with Chicago." Chicago is where his heart is, and where he wants to stay. Just thought you would all like to hear that. I do like hearing that.
  5. In 2007, Sisco will either be in the Sox pen or starting at Charlotte.
  6. QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 11:05 PM) I know NOTHING about this case. But if Uribe is involved in a murder, uh I don't want him on the team. Get rid of the bum if that is the case. That said ... I have no idea of the facts of the case. But involved in a murder?? If true, Cmon. Get rid of him. There was no murder.
  7. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 02:10 AM) And it is Chisoxfn's interpretation of the meaning of this information that leads him to say that this trade was a good one. Would the rest of us interpret the information that way? If the info is that Brandon has a torn rotator cuff, then that would be one thing. But if the info is that the Sox scouts see something particularly great in Danks, then that is another thing entirely. Or is it about JR and the payroll (in the near future)? Or is it something else ambiguous? We really have no idea what this "information" tells us about how good this trade is. Don't know if this is the "inside information" in question or not, but I found this interesting: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/unfiltered/?p=116
  8. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 09:06 PM) I think it is time for somebody to cue the Haeger fan club sig. Any members besides Pratt and me? Count me in.
  9. QUOTE(TheOcho @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) So do you like Floyd as our 5th starter? Then eventually us bringing up Gio Gonzalez or Danks to try and fill that hole when Floyd f***s up? And you don't know if Danks is going to be a ton better in 2 years. Haeger is going to be a good fifth starter. Masset should complete the bullpen. Floyd, Danks, Gio et al give the Sox good SP prospects in the minors. KW knows what he's doing.
  10. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 06:34 PM) CF relief will be by either Owens or Sweeney in my opinion. Mack only in emergencies. I don't know diddly about this guy Terrero we signed. Sweeney is not going to be sitting on the bench as a backup. As it stands right at this moment Terrero is the best candidate for backup CF.
  11. QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 10:07 PM) he has a lot of talent, but wasnt he hitting around .340 or something, and if he did and then finished at .302 i would be scared that he might be really streaky, which the sox should stay away from (personally i believe we need a guy that will consistently have a hit or two and can walk regularly) Rios missed time with a severe staph infection and slumped when he first returned.
  12. Buster Olney reports that Toronto may move Alex Rios. Apparently they are looking for starting pitching. Rios can play CF or RF. He could start in CF for the Sox in 2007 and move to RF in 2008 if Dye leaves. Any thoughts pro or con? Does anyone see a possible match for a trade between the Sox and Jays for Rios? Discuss.
  13. I agree with the Sox not spending money for the likes of a Zito, Schmidt, Lilly, Meche, Marquis, etc. But when guys like Santana and Zambrano become available, and the Sox are drawing close to 3Mil fans, I would certainly hope the Sox would be competing for their services. KW is smart for not blowing his wad on mediocrity and he's also way ahead of the curve (as always) in dealing a Garcia for two young pitching prospects. But even KW says salary is no longer an issue, so when some real quality becomes available, I would expect KW and the Sox to be right in the mix with the money they didn't blow on a Lilly or Meche type pitcher.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:33 PM) This should be a wake up call to some of the ridiculous trades that have been suggested on here. Yep. Everyone thought having a surplus of SP gave Kenny great leverage. But think about it, with the cost (salary wise) of starting pitching so high, who is going to give up good young cheap talent for a pitcher who they can't re-sign after one season?
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:27 PM) Wow, there's no way it can be straight up. If so, what a disaster. LOL! If true, we didn't even get Rowand back as a throw in! The market for starting pitching is sure strong this offseason!
  16. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 11:07 PM) You realize that the Marlins are swimming in cheap pitching right now. So they really dont want Santana. Everyone wants (should want) cheap quality pitching.
  17. OK, here's what the Sox do: KW trades Garcia and Crede to the Angels for Figgins and Santana. Then he flips Santana along with Fields and Anderson to the Marlins for Miguel Cabrera. Figgins in Left, Sweeney in Center and Dye in Right along with Cabrera at Third, Uribe at Short, Iguchi at Second and Konerko at First. Pierzynski Catches and Thome at DH. McCarthy moves into the rotation. Sox get faster, younger, cheaper and arguably better.
  18. Maybe Uribe is to be included in a package to Toronto for Vernon Wells...
  19. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 06:44 PM) Has Uribe ever played 3B? Yes. He's probably better than Fields too.
  20. Now Crede has to hit a home run because that's the only way Paulie and Thome can score.
  21. Konerko better hit a home run this time. It's the only way Thome can score.
  22. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 09:40 PM) This team has quit. I am starting to think that Ozzie might not be around next season. Best news I've heard all evening!
  23. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 09:35 PM) I can assure you 100% that their absence from the White Sox roster has nothing to do with this team finishing in 3rd place in the AL Central. 100%, huh? Wow. You know everything!
  24. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) Everett played his way off the Mariners, and the Phillies played a lot better after Rowand got hurt. Last year the pitching was awesome. This year its been bad until the last couple weeks . The offense was playing so over their heads, you knew a correction was coming at some point. Everett and Rowand helped lead the Sox to a World Championship in 2005. Everett's talents had been slipping the past few years and by 2006 it appears he's about through as a major leaguer. Rowand was doing pretty well in Philly but suffered two major injuries, one which ended his season. It's irrelevant what they did this year, the point is last year they were key members of the Sox and a major contribution of both of them was their fire, intensity and leadership both on and off the field. The Sox are lacking those qualities this year.
