  1. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) I love having Frank on the wall. I think Schilling and Frank are already confirmed for this committee. Sounds like it.
  2. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) Too lazy to read 20 pages. Any players actually get grilled yet? If so, who was it and what did they say? Thx. NO. That's later.
  3. Now they are talking about corked bats! LOL
  4. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:52 PM) They have to have proof he is lying though...but it could be contempt. If they prove he's lying, it would be perjury.
  5. QUOTE(rangercal @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) If sosa denies, what is at risk for him if he is lying? Jail time.
  6. Frank would have to accept that position. They can't just make him do it.
  7. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:42 PM) That would be a distant fourth then, wouldn't it? I think it's time to break out the fifth.
  8. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:40 PM) Until I see otherwise, I'm sticking with what I've encountered. Sometimes pride counts more than money and that is the case with most of us. You'll discover that pride ranks a distant second to money, fame and pussy.
  9. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) Yes I do, I've been playing baseball for 13 years and know some people in high school and college that have a shot at being a pro. No one has used steriods or has ever wanted to, we've talked about this routinely. Maybe we don't because we come from a city with good morals and know it's wrong, I don't know. We look up to these players, but we know what right and wrong is. Respectfully speaking here. You are talking about the opportunity to make millions upon millions of dollars, versus the difference between right and wrong. I'm sorry, but people have commited murder because their pride has been hurt. To expect people to give into moral vlaues vs. millions of dollars is just not ... generally ... realistic. There are exceptions, but the majority won't be exceptions.
  10. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:29 PM) Losing in gambling affects moods negatively also which could lead to suicide. People used to jump out of buildings when they lost money in stocks, I call that proffesional gambling, so it does affect. The show was pretty good and far from lame, but that's not the argument. You don't inject gambling in your ass. Let's stick with the topic.
  11. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:23 PM) I guess what I'm getting at is sure steriods are wrong and shouldn't be used. But it's not like the players are forcing kids to use them. Players shouldn't be blamed for the death of those kids. Yes! The players do need to accept some of the responsibilty. They are showing by example that this the way to get the big bucks, get the chicks (Chiks love the long ball) and to get to the HOF. They damn sure should hold some of the blame.
  12. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:21 PM) I do agree with Juggernaut mostly. Sure I think steriods shouldn't be around the game, but it's not because of the players that took them. Sure maybe there was an indirect influence, but that's just like watching the show Tilt and going and gambling and losing all your money, then killing yourself. The show Tilt didn't say anything about gambling your money away. I didn't say it wouldn't help. But that doesn't need to be the backbone of the policy.
  13. "Baseball's new policy is designed to silence the critics and not to solve the problem." Great great observation.
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) GMAFB... they already know roids are bad and wrong. No need to say don't do them... slap the s*** out of the players doing them.. make them an example.. and scare the s*** out of the kids that want to be ball players by letting them know that if they do them they will NOT make it into professional sports. Thank you. You said it so much better than I did.
  15. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:14 PM) I disagree. They just asked the parents of the dead children if they believe their kids would be alive today if MLB players had made public statements against steroid abuse when their kids were playing sports. All of them said yes. Try to imagine the impact of those spots day in & day out during every game. Those spots could include %'s of fatalities, suicides, & other characteristics brought up in these hearings. That data being associated with iconic players of heroic stature would have a definite impact on high school players. Now try to imagine players in the game getting caught at the same time these ads are airing daily. PR death. If MLB does nothing beyond "window dressing" it won't amount to a hill of beans.
  16. QUOTE(ptatc @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) The moron from Indiana just asked the researcher if "the research on animals shoed an improvement in hand-eye coordination" becuase this would benefit baseball players more. How would you test this? Last time I checked animals do not have hands. Knuclehead Indiana. :headshake Relax! I'm kidding.
  17. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:07 PM) I feel so sad for those parents.. I can relate.
  18. QUOTE(Spiff @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:06 PM) Reminded me of a funny story. In the eighties Lawrence Taylor took a drug test, and afterward the lab couldn't figure out what to make of the sample. After three weeks of tests, they figured out it was apple juice. LOL ... I just knew you were going to say he was pregnant!
  19. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:02 PM) I get it... I'm sorry guys.. I guess I am just floored at some of the things that are being said. I did not think it would be like this at all. Those guys got big brass ones. Kudos to them. I agree, up to now. They are not pulling their punches. Let's see what happens when it's the players or Selig and Fehr on the hot seat.
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) Yikes... "Players are known to be deceptive in urine collection.. " That's more common sense. If they would risk their health to cheat, they cheat by going through a loophole.
  21. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) Holy s***... "the scouts encourage roid use..." I know that is just his opinion.. but did I hear that right..? You heard it right. And while it's only his opinion, it makes perfect sense.
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 11:55 AM) Mr. Hooten is being way more PC, and nice, than I would be... no way in hell that coach didn't know what was going on with that kid. Which is also the way he can be the most effective. Kudos to him. He's no dummy.
  23. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) :headshake
  24. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 11:52 AM) Candice Miller (R-Detroit) just slapped the Detroit News in the face!! Big ol' backhand b**** (can I say that?) slap.
  25. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) I've not heard any one advocate yet that MLB needs to spend $ to produce tv spots to publicly condemn the use of illegal drugs. I think this would do more to help the cause then slowly strengthening the drug testing policy in MLB. This to me makes the best sense. A commitment to pay for & air such spots during every MLB telecast this year would hurt the pocket books of both the owners & players. Make the MLBPA & MLB produce their own spots with their own money. No. We need to get it out of the game. That's just window dressing on the problem. I would help, but not much.
