That article is trash, as is anybody who argues steroid use is ok because everybody did it. This goes back to the most basic point of common sense, would you jump off a bridge just because everybody else did?

Tavon Wilson from Washington D.C. drops Maryland for Illinois, giving Illinois 25 verbals. Only 7 or 8 open spots (depending who you ask) are left now. -

UK does suck, but Houston is a team that will be in the NCAA Tourney (they are 10-1, and their loss was a 1 point game on the road) so they aren't horrible. C-USA will get 2 and perhaps 3 teams (UAB has a shot) in the dance, which is a nice change of pace. And wow, what the hell happened to SIU. -

Will Compton has backed out from Nebraska and is down to Illinois and Missouri. -
QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Dec 18, 2007 -> 12:43 PM) So...do you think anybody will come out with a "yeah, I shot steroids like a f***in' smack addict"? That person will instantly become my new baseball hero. Hahaha I was thinking the same thing today when I heard this, that'd be great. At least it'd be honest.

Orton looked AWFUL last night and I still think he's awful, but it's hard to judge any skill players on this team when you consider how historically bad this offensive line is. Nobody though can argue his last pass, had a man wide open for a TD and threw the ball 3 yards in the wrong direction, that was inexcuseable. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 17, 2007 -> 03:50 PM) In the NFL, teams turn things around all the time. We've still got a great defensive nucleus that's relatively young (Anderson, Harris, Tillman, Vasher, Briggs... if he's back) and great roll players. Sure, there's work to be done, but the Bears can get good again quickly. The Bulls are still just one player away from being a top team in the East. If Pax ever answers the need of an inside scorer, they will be lethal. As for the Sox... that's another story entirely. The Bulls may be one player away, but they'll never get him. That's how the NBA works, you have to get the really good player first or it's too late, only way the Bulls get that guy is giving up the core, so they are screwed either way. As for the Bears, the offense has 11 spots that are holes (Berrian will be gone), the defense will lose Briggs, Urlacher has an arthritic back, Anderson can't stop the run, yeah they have a really good DT and good corners, but the rest of the defense is a ? too.

I hope Saban goes to West Virginia just for the understandable reaction it will get. Oh, and Michigan is the favorite to get Terelle Pryor now. Him and Sam McGuffie will end all questions about an adjustment time for that offense. Yeah they will need a couple years to get a more agile offensive line to fit the team, but McGuffie and Pryor would really ease the process. Also, Mallet really needs to transfer. -
QUOTE(Shadows @ Dec 17, 2007 -> 02:20 AM) I know The Bears are garbage this year, you guys need something to talk about The Bears and White Sox are going to be garbage for several years now, and the Bulls are not far behind. It's pretty sad really.

There is nothing this team could have done this offseason to be good enough to compete. Kenny's failure to be able to develop a minor league system, ability to keep signing washed up players and 30 somethings to big extensions, and ability to make a team with 100 million dollars in payroll have more holes than a piece of swiss cheese have killed us before this offseason started.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 16, 2007 -> 09:48 PM) 2. Easy there, cowboy. Jaguars are an alright team but no matter what the weather they are not guaranteed to do anything against the best-built, best-coached team in football. Nobody is unbeatable. I'm the first to concede that. I'm sure Bill Belichick preaches that to his team all the time. I wouldn't bet on it. Jacksonville has a team far better built for those conditions than New England (they can say whatever they want, the Pats scored 6 points today without defense and special teams, while Jacksonville lit up Pittsburgh in the snow), and the Jaguars D is way better than New England. They better hope Jacksonville doesn't go far.

Rich Rodriguez is a far better coach than Les Miles anyways and will probably cost less, so it works out great for Michigan that Les turned them down. -
Today confirmed 2 things: 1. The NFC champion will be destroyed in the Super Bowl, next question. 2. The Patriots better hope they don't get the Jaguars on a bad weather day in the playoffs, or they will lose. And I won big money on the Jets and the points, wahoo. QUOTE(Shadows @ Dec 16, 2007 -> 03:18 PM) Hell yes they did Now everyone on here can STFU about them going winless And worry about more important things, like seeing the '72 Dolphins shut up. Enjoy 1-15.

Take the Jets and the points tomorrow. They won't win, but no way NE can win by 24 to 28 points with the weather they'll have. (I hope I don't regret that quote).

Ya that 2009 incoming class is nasty, especially if you add Legion, and if you add Crandall to Richmond in 2010....wow. Sucks right now to watch the Illini though. -
I wouldn't blink at giving him 20 million a year, hell that might be a bargin with the direction this market is going. The problem is 7 years, giving any pitcher a 7 year contract really goes beyond the "high risk" category and towards irresponsible.

Okafor is kind of a poor man's version of a healthy Elton Brand, which is a legit modestly above average NBA starting center mind you, but not much else. Random, but I was out watching the late game last night, and afterwards, Al Harrington said "I just wanted to come out and play well. Didn't want to be called missing in action like Tyrus Thomas like I have been so far this season". OUCH!!!!

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 07:37 PM) Can he play CF? He's a worse defender than Mackowiak, so no.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 07:29 PM) Btw, does it seem to anyone else like the A's got a bigger haul for Haren than they did for Hudson + Mulder combined? They got a king's ransom for Mulder (Daric Barton, Dan Haren, and Kiko Calero) and turned out to rob St. Louis blind, so I can't agree with this. They got a very underwhelming package for Mulder (Charles Thomas, Dan Meyer, and Juan Cruz) that worked out to look even worse 3 years later than it did on the day of the trade, but Hudson was coming up on a contract year, and I believe that deal was the winter before said season.

To be fair to Bruce, Jamar was not kept for the sake of D.J. Richardson. The one place Illinois can get whoever they want from, even with Bruce as coach, is Peoria, and anybody who said Jamar is still here in order to get D.J. is lying or being lied to by their source. If Jamar is gone tomorrow, D.J. wouldn't care since he's coming here with at least Paul and Bertrand (plus Richmond the next year) to help out, and likely quite a bit more such as Legion since Jerrance Howard is trying to save the program with his recruiting skills. -
How long will people continue to buy into this myth. They aren't a Sox fan just because they have the hat on, odds are it's just worn for fashion purposes since the Sox hat is cool to be seen in, and that's true in almost all cases. It all started with Dr. Dre, I figure after 15 years people would realize a Sox hat is a fashion statement and not a statement of fandom, but I guess not. /pet peeve

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 06:05 PM) I wouldn't just talk about them. Aside from the Giants, the amount of young talent in that division is extraordinary. The Dodgers are loaded, the D-Backs are loaded, and the Rockies just went to the series. True enough, you've got 2 really good teams and a 3rd on the rise (Dodgers) in that division. They should be winning every pennant in that league for a while, as ESPN will continue to be bewildered as to why the NL East will keep losing to them, unaware that young talent is more relevant than payroll.
-
Just look at that pitching: Webb, Haren, Davis, Owings, Randy Johnson, Petit, Edgar Gonzalez, Qualls, Pena, Cruz, Lyon, Medders, Slaten. They'll have guys in AAA better than the 2nd or 3rd best RP on some teams. That is astonishing depth, even assuming Randy Johnson gets hurt again. They don't need to hit with all that, and with that said you assume their young hitters will improve. Might see these guys keep breaking the Cubs hearts for the next few years, and I approve.

QUOTE(gbuk @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 11:18 PM) Please tell us what kind of "fraud" Weber is then. Go on. If you aren't aware of the entire Jamar Smith/Brian Carlwell saga, the myth that Weber is a great in game coach, the bizarre showing up of World Wide Wes at the UC recently on the coaching staff's tab, the general ignorance he showed toward the incredible amount of problems off the court within the program the last few years, and his seeming inability to blame anybody but his young players.........that's your problem.
