  1. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 01:22 AM) I hope you didn't actually think I was bragging? Of course not, the only reason I address it is I was visiting friends at KU for that game and will never understand how you blew it that day. I was even rooting for you since Kansas is evil. That was not a cool day.
  2. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 01:18 AM) We got a Big 12 North Division Co-Champion trophy in 2005. Eat a dick. You blew a late lead against a 5-5 Kansas team, costing the squad a shot at the Big 12 North and Big 12 Titles outright (as you know). While technically your point is accurate, to brag about that season isn't really a direction I'd head in.
  3. He signed on to a team built around Mike Vick, and to help Mike Vick become a very good player. Vick is gone, probably forever from Atlanta, and he's gone. I don't blame him for leaving, but the timing and handling of it were indeed awful.
  4. This one I don't mind. Just another mediocre player with a horrible contract on the Cubs, glad we didn't get him.
  5. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 01:22 PM) Honestly, I nominate this for post of the year. We all seem to forget rather quickly that the Sox won it all just two seasons ago. We all wanted the dynasty, but I'll take the championship first and foremost. Nobody wants a dynasty, that's crazy talk and unrealistic. We just want a team that doesn't suck, and we didn't have that last year, won't this year, and won't for the foreseeable future when you consider our FA spending habits, GM, and farm system. And all 3 are disasters right now.
  6. Outstanding job raising the kid in this video.
  7. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 12:50 PM) LOL at 101. He's even an expert on my own teams now. If you think the Giants defense is anywhere near as good, let alone better, than the Steelers....your not very bright. You did see what happened to the Giants defense against the Cowboys right? They got torched twice by a team nowhere near as good as New England.
  8. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 11:02 AM) Giants should fare pretty well. They actually have an NFL caliber secondary unlike the Steelers, and have balance on offense. They can rush the ball and have Eli drop back and throw it to the other team :-). Please, use common sense before posting nonsense. The Steelers entered yesterday allowing 155 pass yards a game, EASILY the best in the NFL, and also were best in the NFL in points per game allowed. The Giants are 10th and 12th in those categories, and also have R.W. McQuarters and Sam Madison at the cornerback spots, who are both ancient by NFL standards. Not to mention they are an NFC team, a charter member of the JV league.
  9. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 11:19 AM) Miami No sir!! Their first year football coach Randy Shannon has laid down the law!! He is kicking ANYBODY who is convicted of a felony off the team immediately. (And no, I'm not kidding. That's an ACTUAL policy there now, it's amazing they need it, but the new policy helps support my point since the team no longer has felons on it).
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 10:29 AM) So he will serve less than a year, and be back in the NFL for the 2009 mini/training camps. Wonderful. That's not how it works here. Since this is a federal case, he has to serve at least 85 percent of the sentence, which in the case of 23 months, 85 percent is at least 19 and 1/2 months. He could, in theory, serve the last month of that in a halfway house, and he did start his jailtime about 3 weeks ago, but the earliest Vick could realistically even be a free man is the summer of 2009. Now, of course, by then he will not have played an NFL game in almost 3 years, be 29 years old (which isn't young by NFL standards) be nowhere near in playing shape, and not be on any team since sometime after June 1st (at the latest) of 2008, the Falcons will cut him to save the cap hit. And all of that doesn't even include the fact that Vick is still facing pending state charges in Virginia, and Lord only knows how that will go since usually the state would ordinarily leave somebody who has taken a plea with the feds alone, but for some reason Virginia wants a piece of Vick too (not that I mind). So, unless Bruce Weber coaches an NFL team, I doubt he plays in the NFL again when you consider all that and other than good ol' Bruce, I'm unaware of many (or any) convicted felons who are on the roster of major athletic squads in our great land.
  11. Wow 23 months!! That's almost 14 dog years!! /obligatory So much for him getting off easy because he's famous, damn. I hope he enjoys the clink and finds a nice boyfriend though. I will put the over/under on the angry "that's racist" columns on espn.com at 7, starting of course with Jemele Hill and Scoop Jackson.
  12. NIU is really good with this kind of stuff as you see with the precaution taken here, but I just hope whoever made the threat is caught by Tuesday morning. I wouldn't exactly consider things around here safe until whoever did this is caught, as it's obviously a very real threat with school closed tomorrow.
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 01:08 AM) Stay safe, man. I live off campus, so other than the fact that I will be sure to avoid being on campus at any time tomorrow and will have to go home a day later, this has no effect on me. The problem is the Holmes Student Center is the area the crazy person threatened, and I have my doubts as to if they can REALLY keep that place empty on the Monday of finals week, as it's maybe the most commonly populated area on campus outside of the dorms and Huskie Stadium during football season. Hopefully this was just a hoax but the fact they closed the whole campus tomorrow has me concerned, even though the weather is certainly horrible and I'd guess that is a factor (although small).
  14. http://www.niu.edu/alert/campus_alert.shtml Everybody that goes here got emailed that a few times as it updated over the course of the evening. It's pretty unprecedented for a day of finals to be canceled here at all by what I'm told, and although the weather is horrible, the real reason they canceled the finals tomorrow is the Va. Tech-esque threats. This is going to be a nightmare for people that have finals tomorrow and Friday (luckily I don't have any Friday, although this means I have to wait an extra day to go home now), but better safe than dead.
  15. If you want to know the difference between Ron Zook and Bruce Weber, and more noteably the direction of their programs, look at tonight's showdown between #1 Whitney Young and #5 Homewood-Floosmoor in hoops (and SIU fans, Kevin Dilliard is the truth, but back on target). The best player on the floor tonight, for either team, was none other than Illinois FOOTBALL recruit Supo Sanni (despite the fact Illinois is recruiting 3 different players on Whitney Young), who had 25 points and 15 rebounds as H-F pulled the 66-55 upset.
  16. I love Gilbert Arenas, and he's spot on in that blog entry or whatever it is. His best point is it's not about other people, it's about you so take the money and try to live on 12 million dollars a year, it's so true.
  17. The fact NE is going to get McFadden just ain't right, but damn I love it!! Keep winning NE and keep losing Miami, I'll never hear anything from South Florida's annoying loud mouths again about the NFL if this keeps up.
  18. Hatton was a fraud and it was proven out tonight. The Brits simply can't fight other than Lennox Lewis, and Floyd is a monster.
  19. App State gets to beat another team with those helmets now, a nice way to bookend the season. Suicide watch in Carbondale tonight.
  20. Worldwide Wes was at the game today, for free, as a guest of the Illini program. So not only is the team terrible, but the program is befriending a legendary cheater. It is a dark day for Illini basketball, and this team will suck at minimum for this year and next, back to back NIT bids on the horizon. On another note, Marquette is awfully good, but Wisconsin is a lot better than I thought. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 8, 2007 -> 06:05 PM) The football program is going to be very good next season and the basketball program is headed in the right direction with a great coach. You are truly ignorant if you think Iowa's football team will stink next year (considering all the guys they have returning, including their head coach. In basketball they don't have anything great right now but they have a very good coach who needs to be able to get his guys in. He already has them playing very good defensively despite a lack of talent and when he gets some more shooters the offense will pick up. The football program is screwed for a while now that they can't get recruits from Illinois, and I see no reason to believe they are going to be any different in 2008 than 2007. I think the basketball program might get better eventually due to having an outstanding coach, but the football program is an undeniable sinking ship.
  21. QUOTE(Brian @ Dec 8, 2007 -> 11:31 AM) I always thought she was rather manly looking in the face. That's what paper bags are for.
  22. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Dec 8, 2007 -> 11:55 AM) the florida scout.com board moderator says wide receiver a.j. jenkins committed to illinois. nice pick-up, particularly with anthony morris's situation looking shaky. jenkins had offers from illinois, lsu, florida, and miami. he's from florida and de-committed from georgia tech. Zook is crazy, he is recruiting like an SEC coach, sign 30 guys every year (I have been told 31 or 32 will sign this fall) and bend the rules to keep only 85 guys on scholarships. Not that there is anything wrong with that, I'd rather see Zook doing that than have a squaky clean coach like Weber ruin everything.
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 8, 2007 -> 02:00 PM) Iowa-ISU on ESPNU. Oh and nice to see Arizona defeating the Illini today Enjoy Illinois basketball as your refuge, as your own program isn't going to give you any joy in football or basketball in the forseeable future.
  24. Glad I didn't get tickets this year, wow. Chester Frazier is useless, I thought this teams downfall would be Meacham as a 2 guard, but nope, it's Chester Frazier. I guess there is a reason he was a 2 star recruit, ugh I hate the thought of the NIT. Illinois did deserve to lose, but the refs may have won this game for Arizona and here's why: Nic Wise CLEARLY was calling timeout with 2 seconds left and the ref ignored it instead of giving him a deserved technical foul since AZ had no stoppages left, and I assume Meacham could have made 1 out of 2 technical free throws. And a special thanks to Bruce Weber for ruining the basketball program, seeing it with "his recruits" is even worse than I thought.
  25. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 8, 2007 -> 01:40 AM) He'll frustrate you but he'll pour his heart into the program. Sounds like the guy that just retired here. Anyways, Armanti Edwards of the beloved Appy State Mountaineers had quite a night leading his team within 1 win of their 3rd straight FCS (1-AA) title. He was 14 for 16 for 182 yards and 3 TD's passing, but that's not the story. Edwards set an all time NCAA record (regardless of classification) for rushing yards by a QB in any game, as he had 31 carries for 313 yards and 4 TD's, breaking the previous all time all classification record of 308 yards rushing by former NIU QB great Stacy Robinson (I never thought that record would fall either). The scary part about this dude is he's only a sophomore, and yeah I know he's only 6', 175 but how is he not at a 1-A school? All I can say to you SIU fans that I know roam around here is if you win tonight to make the finals, good luck with stopping that guy.
