QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 02:36 PM) It makes you appreciate the jobs that Scott Skiles and John Paxson do. The Hawks are a more talented team from player to player if you ask me. The difference is that the Bulls put stock into a players character, how they work with others, and the stuff between the ears. It really shows as the Bulls probably get more out of their level of talent than any team in the NBA right now. Your half right. It shows how great a job Skiles does that his teams are high character and get the most out of what they have. The fact that the most this team has though is somebody that loses in the 2nd round and can't win the east though shows how mediocre a job Paxson does, the talent level here isn't good enough.

1984 World Series would have been at Comiskey

WOW, that article has two bombshells. It's a damn shame he saved Wrigley though, the Cubs would be drawing 25 thousand a game in a mediocre 1980's built ballpark in Mount Prospect or something if it wasn't for that. -
Tyrus is going to be improved, but inconsistent this year IMO. Thus, this will be a VERY long, back and forth thread, by the time late April arrives.

http://highschoolsports.suntimes.com/64065...7thomas.article Tommie Thomas to Illinois assuming he has the academics, and it sounds good in that article. I have seen him play in person a few times, and he reminds me of a bigger version of former Northwestern standout CB Marquice Cole (saw him play in HS too). Tommie is very fast, very versatile, clutch, and a smart player. I hope he qualifies because that is a very nice get. -

Garner-Webb went 9-21 last year, starts a freshman and 2 sophomores, and was predicted to finish 8th in the Atlantic Sun, so it's not like they lost to some mid major power. For them to get their butt kicked for 40 minutes (It was 14-0 to start) like that by a team with that resume, at home, is almost more shocking to me than the Ohio State and Sparty losses. At least those were both against top 5 teams in D2, and preseason games that didn't count anyways so the coaches coached a bit different. -
Say what you will about the Bulls, but the only team in the NBA younger than them is the Hawks, and it's not by much. So yes, they are still very young, but with all the experience they have, youth is no excuse.

The winless Trail Blazers defeat the unbeaten Hornets, go figure. David West with 34 and 18 though, he's a beast, but Peja used up all his magic shooting last night it appeared this evening. And wow, what an ending, LeBron hits the 3 to tie it at 101-101 with 6 seconds left, but Deron Williams drives for a layup to win the game with just a second left, and Utah takes it 103-101. LeBron finished with an incredible 32 points, 15 rebounds, and 13 assists, had 3 steals and 2 blocks, and had a triple double by the 3rd quarter. However, he was a mediocre 12-27 from the field and an abysmal 7-15 at the free throw line, which probably cost Cleveland the game. Deron actually had a poor game (4 for 12 from the field, 8 turnovers), but managed to make up for it with the winner and had 15 points and 12 dimes.

These guys are always worth a flyer. Heck, Okajima was a cheap throw in sign by Boston to make Dice-K feel more comfortable, and look how that worked out. And hell, we even got one great year out of Shingo at least. Why not??

It sucks and will be frusterating, but with this teams current situation, it's not like we'll find anything better and attainable at SS anyways. *sighs*

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines If this article is even close to accurate in it's portrayal of the consequences that will befall baseball when the Mitchell report comes out, then this will be a fascinating spring training and early season in 2008. Good read.

Leshoure's position next year will depend on whether the Illini get any more RB's in this class as well as if Mendenhall stays or not (I think he's gone personally). -
I'd bet the ranch that the current player talking to Mitchell is Frank Thomas. And Matt Williams, next to Brady Anderson and obviously Bonds and Sosa, was THE most obvious juicer, so this is no surprise.

So, Findlay won 70-68 at Ohio State, and led basically all game. WTF is up with Big 10 athletic powerhouses losing to non DI teams?? Oh, and Memphis pulled away 80-63 over Richmond. Derrick Rose had 21 points and 5 rebounds on 6-8 from the field (2-4 from 3), and 7-10 from the line, with 2 blocks, 2 steals, and 1 assist. Illinois won their 2nd and final exhibition, 76-39 over Kentucky Wesleyan. Brian Carlwell REALLY needs to be redshirted is one thing I took out of this, and Chris Hicks even had 7 points and hit a couple 3's. I'm not really sure what to take out of this game besides that, except there are tough redshirt decisions to make, Meacham and Randle looked good tonight, and Pruitt and Brock both got their first minutes and looked good. -
So yeah, the scouting report is out on the Bulls. Isolate and post up on offense to take advantage of how small we are, and clog the lane on defense to cut off the screens and cuts that get us open looks. We have to get Kobe, at all costs, this group just doesn't cut it.

Linsday Soto, Erin Andrews, or Rachel Nichols, can't go wrong with any of the 3. Soto isn't nearly as well known since she's a local girl on the west coast Fox Sports Nets, but she's amazing. I watch USC basketball games on there when I get the chance just to see her.

NIU won both of the exhibition games easily against top 5 ranked D III teams (which I feel better about after seeing Michigan State against a top D II team) and open their season Friday at Northern Iowa, playing 3 games in 3 days at the UNI Tournament. I'm just hoping they can go 2-1 in that and show some things, I like the style the new coach Ricardo Patton has them playing, and there are a couple talented newcomers. We follow that up with a trip to SIU next Saturday and then a trip to Indiana State next Tuesday before coming home for 3 games. It's nice to at least have something interesting in regards to basketball going on here again, too bad about the football team though.... As for the Illini, they play their 2nd and final exhibition game tonight against Kentucky Wesleyan at the Assembly Hall at 8 PM, before opening the regular season Sunday at 1 PM hosting Northeastern. I am interested to see how tonight goes, lots of guys fighting for playing time/avoiding being redshirted. Oh, and is there really an argument in this thread about if Derrick Rose is a good shooter? Please.....he's a fine shooter, he just doesn't shoot all that much. -

ISU would beat Minnesota. If you want the real toilet bowl between so called major programs, you'd have Notre Dame, Minnesota, and Duke in a triple threat match. -
Favre has obviously been amazing, but the real reasons the Packers are 7-1 are the emergence of Greg Jennings and the revival of Charles Woodson IMO. I can't explain the whole Detroit thing as easily, but damn they are killing people right now. Also, Tampa Bay had the ball possesion for 43:07 in a regulation win today, had 21 third down situations, and had a 19 play, 86 yard, 11:59 drive that resulted in NO POINTS (missed FG). I'm pretty sure I've never seen an NFL drive that long, I know I've never seen one that long that resulted in no points. Oh, and 30 carries for the all time record of 296 yards and 3 TD's (and he also had a 19 yard catch, so 315 total yards from scrimmage on 31 touches)? Adrian Peterson truly is purple Jesus, he might set every single season rushing record in the book, and as a ROOKIE. Amazing, he makes LT's start in the NFL look mediocre.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 11:57 PM) I love you too, 101. This team has such better coaching this year. HAHA I had to, I'm sorry. And IU still has Purdue at home and Northwestern, you'll get at least 1 of those and be secure in a bowl. -

Good to see both frauds exposed today (Boston College and Arizona State). Also, wow Minnesota is awful, and wow Notre Dame is awful. Heisman Ballot: 1. Dennis Dixon 2. Chase Daniel 3. Tim Tebow 4. Darren McFadden 5. Todd Reesing Lastly, what is more impressive? 1. Kansas scoring 76 points 2. Arkansas with 526 rushing yards 3. Iowa State didn't lose -
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 08:46 AM) Once you see the gametape and see how bad Gordon was in the last 6 minutes of the game, you might want to recant that statement. Gordon was absolutely brutal when they needed him the most, he turned the ball over on about 4 straight possessions. I'm aware, but EVERYBODY was turning it over all night, and his shooting and rebounding (along with Tyrus' all around game) kept the Bulls in it most of the night, so I'll let it slide by the standards of last nights game.
-
Tyrus was really focused last night, he ran the offense great and even hit a few 15 foot jumpers. I'm not sure if he can consistently hit the 15 footer yet, but if he plays as focused as last night every game, no reason he can't have 10 points and 10 rebounds every night IMO.
-
I was there. They are obviously VERY distracted, it was shocking how sloppy and unfocused they looked, outside of Tyrus and Ben Gordon who were great. Ben Wallace is officially useless now too, he got eaten alive on the glass all night. Just make the damn Kobe trade already, not like this group is going anywhere.
