Zumaya injures shoulder during wildfires
whitesoxfan101 replied to Balta1701's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 11:44 AM) Going into the draft Zumaya only threw in the low 90's, he magically gained 10 MPH on his fastball after playing in the Tigers minor league system. If Joel were throwing 100-103 MPH before the draft he would have been a high round pick. That's exactly the point I was trying to make. As for compassion, I am glad his house didn't burn down obviously, however facts are facts and he's had 2 of the flukiest injuries I've ever heard in a matter of only 6 months, in his early 20's. Hmmm......... -

A modestly built guy at 6'3, 200 pounds who somehow was an 11th round pick, even with his great arm, suffers his 2nd bizarre, yet major injury in about 6 months. If this guy isn't a candidate for HGH/steroid/something that makes you brittle but helps you get stronger use, I don't know who is. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 11:38 AM) Any truth to Pruitt being out due to disciplinary issues? Team has the flu bug going around right now, and they wanted to see the kids play. Bruce is a discipline wimp, but he wouldn't even sit out a guy in stealth mode for an exhibition game as "punishment". As for the redshirt situation, Cole looked great last night but it's gotta be him. Davis is raw as hell, but his length, athleticism, and instincts at the 4 are too benificiary to not have. I wish they'd redshirt Carlwell as well, as he won't be in basketball shape until league play IMO, but I doubt that happens. Tisdale didn't look great last night, but he's too skilled to redshirt. Oh, and you could redshirt Carlwell. You'd lose a precious 2010, but you just gained one with C.J. on football scholarship officially now. Tough decision. -

I'd give Wisconsin a shot this weekend, but when you combine Hill's injury problems and the fact it's a road game so Smith can't play, their depth at RB is really poor right now (although I do like Zach Brown). I think Wisconsin's defense (which did an amazing job against Indiana last week) will do a pretty good job against the pass, but Beanie Wells should have a big day, and Tyler Donovan has just not been the same guy since Luke Swan got hurt, which IMO was the turning point in Wisconsin's season. Anyways, this could be a very good weekend for Illinois. I would assume they should beat Minnesota, and with the other 2 in league loss Big 10 teams having rough games (Wisky at Columbus, Purdue in Happy Valley), the Illini could very well move into sole posession of 3rd place in the Big 10. I have no idea who would have the tiebreaker between Illinois and Purdue since they don't play, but if Illinois can just win at Minnesota and beat Northwestern at home, they have a great shot at finishing in that 3rd seed in the Big 10 if things go well this weekend, even assuming they lose at Ohio State. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 05:29 AM) Question, would you take Deron Williams if you were building a team as your PG right now, over say a Chris Paul? Personally, I'd would LOVE Deron on the Magic. He's got the size to handle anyone defensively, yet he's atheltic enough to create his own shot and dish off the rock. Amazing how Williams and Paul went 3 and 4, and the 2 guys in front of them in Bogut and Williams really haven't done anything. When you consider the age of Kidd and Nash, it's getting to the point where I think that in terms of building a team long term, Deron Williams might be the #1 pick in terms of point guards, certainly top 3 as he'd rival that spot with Tony Parker and Chauncey Billups IMO. The Jazz still overpaid to get Deron instead of Chris Paul with as good as CP3 is, but Deron is the superior player. As for the picks ahead of them, Bogut is a non-American big man which is always a big risk of course, and Marvin Williams was the 6th man on his college team the only year he played out of HS. I think Marvin Williams still could be a very good player, but to me Bogut looks like a Chris Kaman type in terms of his career path.

First of all, I stand corrected on J.R. Smith. Second, don't look at LaMarcus Aldridge's numbers from tonights game. Third, Deron Williams is pretty good. And last, GO BULLS!! Can't wait to be at the home opener Friday.
-
I will say this: the vast majority of Bulls fans wanted LaMarcus Aldridge instead of the potential Stromile Swift 2.0 in Tyrus Thomas. Aldridge got off to a good start tonight against the best defense/team in the NBA, that's for sure. Come back to this thread at the end of the season, as we will know a lot more about both LaMarcus and Tyrus. I just hope all of us that wanted Aldridge over Thomas were wrong.

If it doesn't happen by tomorrow's tip off of the Bulls game, there is no way this can happen until mid December when Noc becomes tradeable. That is, unless of course the Wizards 3 team deal thing becomes more than a rumor. Either way, I can't see this drama lasting much longer. There has to be some kind of resolution soon.

Kobe on Lakers inactive list
whitesoxfan101 replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
There are 2 known facts you are forgetting: 1. Ben Gordon's agent wants an obscene amount of money for his client, as he has the baffling illusion that his client is a superior player to Luol Deng. 2. If you give Gordon a big extension and combine that with using the rights you have to P.J. Brown and Mike Sweetney, things become feasible. With that said, if this trade hasn't occured by opening tip of the Bulls game tomorrow, then yes you are right that there is no way the Bulls would be able to acquire Kobe until mid December when Nocioni becomes tradeable. I can't see this drama going on for that long though, if the trade doesn't happen tomorrow I think you start hearing more about the 3 team rumor involving the Wizards that is out there. We'll see though. -
Well, of the original dead weight that must go list: Erstad (check) Myers (check) Pods Cintron Uribe Great news is it looks like all 5 will be gone, which is a GREAT start to the offseason. Awesome news.

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 07:40 PM) Did I miss the memo that Favre is retiring? Holy s***, the lovefest for him tonight is pathetic. 99.99 percent of the time I'd agree with this sentiment, but not here. He had 2 incredible long passes he hit, including the one in overtime to win the game, and went 21 for 27 for 331 yards and 2 TD's with no turnovers, and threw only 1 incomplete pass after halftime. That's about as good as it gets for a QB not named Brady or Manning. The other thing is, if Greg Jennings can stay healthy long term, I think the pride of Western Michigan is going to end up in a few pro bowls. Really talented player.

PG: Hinrich SG: Kobe SF: Deng PF: Smith C: Wallace Bench: Thabo (can play 2 or 3) Duhon (1) Gray (4 or 5) Curry (can play 1 or 2) Nocioni (can play 3 or 4, and can't trade him until December, so he wouldn't be in the deal) Sign Juwan Howard to play the 4 and/or 5?? Plus, Thomas Gardner made the team and can play the 2 or 3 If that can't win the east, the team is f***ing cursed. GET IT DONE!! Oh, and as for Ben Gordon, his only useful skill is a dynamic scorer, and Kobe can do that 10 times better than Ben, is 6'6, a great defender, and has 3 rings of experience. -

Lots of rumors that there will be significant trouble announced for the IU basketball program tomorrow, and I guess Devin Ebanks AAU Coach has hinted towards both sanctions and Roe not going to IU. I am not as in tune on this story since it's not Illinois, but it sounds bad. -

I'll be at the Bulls home opener, so either way, get this nonsense done in time for that. I might just piss my pants if Kobe is in the lineup that night. As for the depth......yeah it will hurt, but if you can have Kobe and keep Deng, Hinrich, and Big Ben (and Joe Smith), you do it and ask questions later. -

The biggest key for Michigan is they have been really smart in using zone and blitz schemes and avoiding dangerous man to man situations on defense. Their defense is still amazingly slow for a school that recruits that well, but Ron English is doing a great job hiding it. With that said, I think Ohio State will expose their defense big time. -

As long as the Bulls keep Deng and Hinrich, they can trade the rest of the damn team for Kobe for all I care. Those 2 and Kobe beat out the Big 3 in Boston IMO when you consider how old all 3 of those guys are. Plus, the Bulls won't trade EVERYBODY and have the depth to still have some talent after a deal to go with the big 3. -

Well Warren and Stevenson are in trouble, that's what hapens when you go 6-3 and 5-4 though. Warren has to play at Loyola, whose only 2 losses were a tight 20-17 loss at Providence and another tight 31-24 loss at home to Mt. Carmel, the consensus #1 team in the state regardless of class. Meanwhile, Stevenson gets to play at Fremd, who went 9-0 and most noteably in that stretch handed Lake Zurich it's only loss all season, and also happened to do it on the road, and Fremd has a 30 game winning streak in their conference. -

O M G @ the Toews goal. Good Lord. And they were able to rebound after Colorado scored 3 in a row with the winner from Ruutu with 1:25 left and then the closer Lang score the empty netter to ice it.....great win. -

What a classic, Wheaton Warrenville South and Naperville North, who are inarguably 2 of the top teams in the state met as 8-0 squads and the favorites in 7A and 8A, respectively. It's a shame WWS is 7A and NN is 8A this year, be great to see them play again in the playoffs. Anyways, WWS keeps their winning streak alive with a 42-41 home win over NN in triple OT. Oh, and Warren defends it's home turf by beating Stevenson 35-27. Sorry Rowand. -

QUOTE(danman31 @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 11:50 PM) I know you are just listing the undefeateds, but did you just mention Kansas with national title implications? I actually think they are a legit top 25 team, which with their schedule so far is still debatable, it's way too early to talk Kansas going undefeated. They do have a cushy schedule though, no Texas or Oklahoma and they already beat Baylor. I just meant I don't see anybody going undefeated, so I listed the schedules of all the unbeatens left since there are so few, that's all. I'm not THAT big an idiot to say Kansas=BCS. -
Question about pre-1994 divisional alignment

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 11:43 PM) Why were Cincinnati and Atlanta in the west while St. louis and the Cubs were in the east? In all likelihood, it's the same concept as the NFL having Baltimore and Cincinnati in the AFC North, even though they are both further south than Indianapolis, which is in the AFC South. In other words, sports and geography don't always mix. -
Boston's 1 man pitching rotation is impressive, but he doesn't pitch again this series. At least he got it back to Boston and kept things interesting though.
