QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) HEY, we're the lead picture on espn.com's college bball homepage: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/index I guess we've made the big time. Illinois and SIU should play in St. Louis every year to be honest. It'd be more fun than pantsing Misery every year down there, and would help both teams RPI's immensly. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 11:29 AM) Average at best? You are talking about 2 top tier DE's, one of the top DT's in the game and a rookie on the bench who has 8+ sacks. If average at best means being the #1 defense in the league, then yeah, they are average. I dont know how you can debate any of this without your tongue shoved firmly in your cheek. Harris is GREAT, but he's doubled teamed on every play so it doesn't matter. Anderson is also very good, but he doesn't play enough. Brown and Ogunleye are both overpaid and underperforming and have spent their career making it an artform. The defense itself isn't average at best, but the D End's on it and Hunter Hillenmeyer sure are. -
QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 02:01 AM) Yet, a leadoff hitter is gaurenteed to hit in front of the middle of the order 3 to 5 times a game. So, that 'once a game' has a great big hole in it, in my opinion. I seem to recall that we won an amazing amount of 1 run games in '05. Pods manufacturing runs while building that huge lead in the first half certainly contributed to that. Our amazing pitching staff contributed a lot more to it than Pods did, as did Paul Konerko, Tadahito Iguchi, and Jermaine Dye. Even in 2005, Pods was a waste of running with all his steals considering how much he got caught, and his OBP was very pedestrian for a leadoff hitter. Combine that with the fact that he's a journeyman who seems to have forgotten how to run, can't field, and won't hit for any sort of run production....and I say no thanks.

Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
whitesoxfan101 replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I wish more people would take into account the very real possibility that Joe Crede simply had a career year last year, and didn't just develop after several full season in MLB where he was a consistently mediocre (.250) hitter. He still has Boras as his agent, he still doesn't walk, and he still has a bad back. Oh, and we still have Josh Fields in our system. Crede is at peak value right now, all things considered, so trading him isn't exactly a bad idea. Now I think we could get a better deal done than this one, but that's a different story. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 10:34 AM) That is exactly how I feel about it. Baseball screwed up by not getting testicles and actually having a drug policy. Even if Mark McGwire came clean in a tear filled rant on Oprah, he did not actually do anything wrong as far as MLB was concerned at the time. Now if you want to play the illegal card, that opens a whole nother ball of wax. If you want to keep people out of the Hall for steriods, preMLB testing, you have an obiligation to also keep out every single other person who did something illegal during their time in MLB, such as the drunk drivers, the wifebeaters, the druggies, the tax frauders, the fighters, etc. The sad part is, your probably right in all honesty. They should ban Bug Selig for life, he's done a lot worse to the game than Shoeless Joe ever did.

NFL games on the NFL network
whitesoxfan101 replied to WhiteSoxfan1986's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Bryant Gumbel, the most boring commentator of all time unless he's being racist against the Olympics, does the games. Thus I will not be able to watch unless the Bears or LaDanian Tomlinson is playing in the game. -

Going from South Carolina to Alabama would be a lateral move at this point IMO, and I have no idea why Spurrier would do it. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 09:59 AM) The Bears have the top D in the game, get over it. Anyone saying the Dallas front 7 is better than the Bears is drinking too much Koolaid. Not sure how you can say that with a straight face. The Bears have the best and one of the 5 best LB's in the game in Urlacher and Briggs obviously, but Hillenmeyer is a pile of crap, and the front 4 has been average at best since teams finally learned to double team Tommie Harris. -
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 11:33 PM) I don't understand how anyone can think this is a good deal Eaton has exactly one year with an ERA+ over 100, 7 years ago, the other 6 were all below average. This is a 3-year deal to a below average pitcher who has a history of not being able to stay on the field. Where's the value in that? Well IIRC, he had his best years in San Diego, so moving from a great pitching enviornment like that to a hitters haven like Philly can only help him out.

It's fine if Mark doesn't want to talk about the past, that's his right. But as a result, it's also our right as baseball fans to not let this scumbag into the HOF if he wants to play that way. I WOULD HOPE the writers feel the same way.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) Valpo was our only non-conference road game (not counting the games against Tech and Duke, which was played on a nuetral court). James with Marquette's final 18 (!) points. The team shot real poorly from outside, and had a ton of turnovers via charges. Good to see them pull one out in which they don't shoot particularly well. Phew... Non conferece road games aren't the problem, but playing a solid mid major that is hungry for blood in their building is a BAD IDEA. Better off playing a high major to be honest, but hey you won, so take it. -

Wow, Dominic James with the ONIONS. Marquette escapes with the win, and learned a valuable lesson. Why the hell would you ever schedule a game at freaking Valpo?? That's just asking for trouble, but hey they learned AND won, so oh well. -

Well, Hasselbeck is having a nice return game.... 3 picks, one of which led to a 36 yard TD drive a lost fumble, which was recovered by Iowa rookie Abdul Hodge and taken back for a score 10 for 19, 88 yards team down 14-9 This is what they get for benching the legendary Seneca Wallace, I mean it's not even halftime yet. Also, how is it snowing a few days shy of December in SEATTLE, yet it's 9 PM in Northern Illinois and 57 degrees outside. -

NIU is officially bowling, taking on TCU (should be a good game actually) in the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego. Such great news, Wolfe and the seniors get to go out in style. Oh, and Heads, great hire for the Cyclones. Not that your program has a real basketball and football coach, maybe you'll stop pissing down your leg . QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) I know he's not the sexiest pick, but I think Grobe could put something special on the field at Alabama. He's a hell of a coach and has a style that would fit the SEC to a T. Grobe and Schiano are sexy picks, no doubt. If you can make Wake Forest and Rutgers good at football, you can coach. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 09:32 AM) Dallas is pure crap. You came to this conclusion after the Bears lost to one of the best teams in the NFL at probably the toughest place to play? Please. Other than the fact that Dallas has a better QB, WR's, OL, defensive front 7, and coach than the Bears....I'd agree. -
This team will not win the best division in baseball with Uribe, Podsednik, and Anderson in the lineup. That is basically 3 free outs out of 9 everytrip through the order (33 percent, 1/3, etc). We need a minimum of 1, maybe 2 upgrades at those spots, and damn I hope the trade we make giving up a starter can help us.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) I'm pretty sure it'll be the Arkansas/Florida winner in the Sugar Bowl. ND has a ways to go. There's some nice skill position players, but Willingham has left us woefully thin on both sides of the line. Your lack of speed is a MUCH bigger problem than the line play. Michigan and USC were just so much faster, it was like a men's vs. women's game almost. -
Wrong offseason to sit on our hands
whitesoxfan101 replied to Jimbo's Drinker's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Based on what people are getting in contracts, this is the RIGHT offseason to sit on our hands (and trade one of our starters to fill 1 or 2 of those holes). -

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 26, 2006 -> 10:36 PM) He's no Marion Barber though. Oh and I'm confident the Boys can beat the Bears now. We might finish up 12-4, since we have 5 very winnable games for the rest of our schedule, although the Bears should certainly hang onto Home Field advantage. Cowboys will for sure beat the Bears, and in Chicago. It's what the Bears do, they did it in 1986, 1988, 2001, 2005, and now 2006. Lose at home in the playoffs, it's a tradition!! -
5/75 for J.D. Drew, and 50 million up front for a guy that's never pitched in MLB. The Red Sox are both dumber and more evil than the Yankees could ever dream of.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 26, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) Joseph Addai is okay, I guess. The fact that it took that long for Addai and Romo to start still baffles me. If an idiot like me sees they shoulda started from day 1, how couldn't the teams? QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 26, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) This falls straight on Rex's shoulders and Turners play calling. Oh and Lovie for being a dumbass and not going for it on that 4th down (even though we did end up getting the ball back and would have had a shot to win the game). Agreed on all counts. Turner was an idiot playcaller at Illinois and is still haunting me now with the Bears, and should get hated on more but never does since the media loves him here. -

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 26, 2006 -> 07:35 PM) And it's clear on what is better to have. Correct, which is why i'd take Bruce, although i'd rather have a coach that can do both, such as Tom Izzo. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 26, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) Well here are the matchups for this week's ACC/Big Ten Challenge. If someone knows how to do one big poll in a separate thread that would be cool. Monday Michigan @ NC State - 6:00 ESPN2 Tuesday Maryland @ Illinois - 6:00 ESPN Florida ST @ Wisconsin - 6:30 ESPN2 Penn St. @ GA Tech - 7:00 ESPNU Indiana @ Duke - 8:00 ESPN Miami @ Northwestern - 8:30 ESPN2 Wednesday Michigan St @ Boston College - 6:00 ESPN Virginia @ Purdue - 6:30 ESPN2 Iowa @ Va Tech - 7:00 ESPNU Ohio State @ North Carolina - 8:00 ESPN Clemson @ Minnesota - 8:30 ESPN2 I don't see too many sure Big Ten wins in there. Thoughts?? I see 4 ACC wins, 1 or 2 Big Ten wins, and a lot of tossups. But it's like that every year, I'll say ACC wins 7 to 4. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 26, 2006 -> 06:29 PM) Hahahaha. I think the ND blinders have carried over to the NFL for ya. If Troy Smith goes in the 2nd round of the draft, you can have my season tickets for the sox. If you have your choice of QB in the most important game of your season, anyone who does not pick Troy Smith is blind. Brady Quinn has played against 2 good defensive teams this season, Michigan and USC. Throwing up yards and TD's vs the service trio doesnt apply to how you will do in the NFL. I agree with everything you said, but I wouldn't make that bet. Scouts for some reason don't like Troy, and he's probably going to be a late 1st/early 2nd pick. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 26, 2006 -> 07:32 AM) I never really figured out why they went away from Mustain in the first place. They were winning with him. While they were doing it mostly with the running game, I don't recall him playing poorly enough to be benched. I was thinking the same thing Friday. If Dick was so bad, why not bring in Mustain. Anyone care to shed some light on this? Mustain really struggled in the couple weeks before he exited the job with presnap reads, and began to turn it over a lot. That was the reason they gave, but I don't get it either. He's way better than Casey Dick. QUOTE(Brian @ Nov 26, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) Smith will have to shake the legend that mobile QBs can't win it all in the NFL. Steve Young and John Elway disagree with that legend, but your right that it does exist.
