That's exactly how McDowell used to pitch. Let the batter get himself out. Trying to be too fine and strike guys out takes the fielders out of the game and is pointless with a big lead.
Cub fans would always talk about Jack's ERA, without understanding that it's more important to get a W than put up stats. Surprising that Cub fans wouldn't know that (as they bow to Sammy while losing by 7).

Hawk and DJ were talking about delayed steals last week. They said it had been a long time since they saw one. Uribe handles the throw, it's a delayed out. Me thinks.

This might be too big for a t-shirt, but here goes: "Pay attention. This might be one of the 42 games Hawk is always talking about!"
Anyone know where to get some 1983 winnin' ugly t-shirts? Someone might consider making some and sending me one.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ May 5, 2005 -> 10:54 AM)Yes a playoff game in October is the same as a KC game in April...my bad
I can always CHOOSE to bundle up and go to any game I want...unless of course you'd be at the gate banishing me from the cell for not getting my 'chill on' back in April. Of course then the talking wouldn't be from a message board. It would be face to face and I have a weird feeling all the attendance bashers wouldn't come off the same way.
If you look closely at my post, it says "COLOR=green." I was being sarcastic (I love a dumb attendance argument). I tried to use the color option. Didn't work for some reason. Still don't know how to use it. This would be unnecessary. More like it.

gas prices
in SLaM
$2.40 in Phoenix. It was $1.40 three years ago. Ridiculous.
We don't need more refineries, we need to start looking for alternative fuels.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2005 -> 09:52 AM)Padding his bank account?
Getting the message out about world poverty, AIDS in Africa, etc.
I'm not saying he isn't making lots of $$$, but that's for his music. He's shedding light on some serious social problems. He really doesn't have to do that. I admire his commitment.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 5, 2005 -> 08:00 AM)The Yankees are always going to score runs, that's a given, although their lineup isn't as deep as it was last year. They never should have let Miguel Cairo go for Tony Womack, but the worst decision was not resigning Jon Lieber when they could have picked up his $8 million option. Now they're stuck with Kevin Brown and Jaret Wright who had Leo Mazzone's Magic Touch written ALL over him.
1996-2000 Yanks always had guys like Brosius, O'Neill, Tino, Girardi, etc. who were good, solid ballplayers. Gus who would give themselves up for the good of the team (Bunts, Sac Flys). After they lost to the D-backs, they decided to build an all-star team. Lots of selfish players. They'll put up runs and win their share of games, but things get tough in the playoffs when they have to pick each other up.
Kind of parallels (on a different $$$ scale) recent Sox clubs. Big stats, little to show for it at the end. Thank God KW decided to go the speed, pitching, defense route, finally.

Bono does come off arrogantly, but I think he's sincere. At least he's using his fame for something positive.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ May 5, 2005 -> 06:43 AM)Honestly, I can careless what anyone says about attendance.
My personal view is I ain't paying money to freeze my ass off. The players have to be out there....they are getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to be in that cold....me I have to pay for the right to be in the cold. FUNK THAT!! It's just not fun..and part of the reason I go to the game is to have fun and watch the sox win.
So if Kruk's fat ass wants to cry like someone took away his donut...and people on this board want to cry about....go for it...I ain't losing sleep.
The players know how cold it is....and I gurantee there ain't a chance in hell they would be watching a game in that weather if they didn't have to. I'm sure they appreciate the diehards, but they ain't knocking the people that don't want to freeze.
Better hope it's unseasonably warm in October. If not, front row seats fopr me.

Joe Morgan is a dick.
As for ESPN, sure they don't give CWS enough credit or airtime. Here's what I do. If Baseball Tonight starts at 8pm, I turn it on at 8:40 for Sox highlights. Same way for Sports Center.
That leaves more time for me to watch Stuart Scott on "Dream Job," "Stump the Schwab," "Teammates," MNF preview, and jogging on his treadmill with that tool Chris "My Schtick Isn't Tired At All" Berman on ESPN2. :sleep Something ironic about Stu (the worst ESPN anchor) giving pointers to Dream Job contestants.

Somewhere, Jack McDowell is smiling - and crafting below average rock songs.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ May 3, 2005 -> 05:48 AM)would you need ID going into the stadium that your a libraian, season ticket holder for the Bulls, mail-man exe? Or can you just buy the tickets and everything is fine after that? Seems suspicous
The firearms will suffice as proof that you work for the postal service.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 1, 2005 -> 12:19 PM)And yet, you project that Boers and Bernstein will get broken up?
If you're basing it purely on the strength of Boers and McNeil having experience together, that would be pretty bad. I hope that you're not thinking along those lines. I've been listening to the Score daily since 1992 when I was a freshman in high school, and nobody can tell me that there has been a better show that B & B.
The original Monsters/Heavy Fuel Crew line-ups were way better than anything they have on the "snore" now. MJH is really solid on am1000. B&B tend to get a little too morning zoo-ish with their uncontrollable laughter at semi-funny things.

Just saw this statement by Rincon, "I thought it was flaxseed oil."

Hmmmm....I know Joe Carter must have said something noteworthy.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 02:38 PM)What the hell are you talking about, UH OH, byebye
I like "Uh oh, Bye bye" WAAAYYYYYY more than when DJ chimes in on Hawk's HR call. The simultaneous "YESSSS!" sickens me.
-
Hawk has alot of dead air to fill (since DJ lacks thoughts in general, and pertinent thoughts in particular). Let's give him a break on the repetitiveness of some of his statements.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 08:32 AM)Molding their area after wrigleyville huh?? Makes me hate them even more.
It's a great idea to have parking similar to Wrigleyville. Park in some alley and hope your car hasn't been used as a urinal for 3 hours. Great idea.
-
I'd vote for Tampa's stadium as the worst. I can't even watch the tv when the sox play there.
-
Hawk is a union guy. 10 minute break for every 4 hours worked. He hates when MB pitches.
-
The Score really messed up when they blew up the old teams (North & Jigs - McNeil & Boers). I know it's been some time, but that was 8 hours of solid, funny sports talk. I used to listen to both shows beginning to end (after listening to Johnny B's show) while I worked.
-
I do this trade in a heartbeat. The Bears need more than just one player. I don't know that I see McCaskey paying two first round bonuses, though. Let's hope they get a defensive wing.
-
Nice fight. It's April. Relax. I think this thread is just an excuse for you guys to have "make-up sex" later.
-
Hawk is clearly looking forward to his 6th inning potty break.
Off the "rocker" ....

Rocker's a bone-head, but it's unfortunate that political correctness has made him an outcast. I mean, I don't like the guy, and I think what he said was ignorant, but there's plenty of minorities who've said similar things about whites (or other groups) with little or no backlash. Hell, Reggie White nailed everyone, but it blew over pretty quickly.
