Tigers V. Sox
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 07:12 PM) I've been disgusted by Buehrle's attitude over the last few months...and it's blossoming tonight into a full-fledged disaster. It's time to shut him down for the season. Do you have confidence that he'll bounce back next season? I don't.

What a fitting way to close out our last homestand.
- In or Out?

Jim Thome
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 03:42 PM) I don't have his August RISP or RO numbers, but for the season: RISP: 1.120 RO: 1.167 I'd bet his OPS or AVG for RISP/RO for August are pretty damn good. Seriously, if you think Thome is the reason we likely won't make the playoffs, then you haven't been paying attention. There are some many other more negative factors. People just have short memories - he's had a lousy September so far. I never stated he is the reason that we are missing the playoffs. Throw out any numbers you like at me but he has not had a very good 2nd half of the season.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 03:41 PM) Who could honestly be a threat at the plate when the two guys in front of him are getting on base at a .284 and .310 clip? Solo homers and 2 out doubles don't scare me, I'll tell you that for sure There are players in the league that are a threat at the plate regardless if anyone is on base or not. Thome wasn't one of them for the last couple of months (IMO). Besides, Dye batted in front of Jim for quite some time now. JD's been on base quite often.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) Yeah. That August OPS of 1.039 was really lousy. Worthless, really. Although his August OPS was good did you really consider him a major threat at the plate? I sure didn't. Seems like clutch hits were few and far between in the 2nd half.

Big Hurt's revenge
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) You Rowand worshipers are funny. The guy hit .245 in August, and he hit .235 in September and hit for nothing in the playoffs. Yet in your mind, because you saw him throw himself on the ground to catch a ball, that Brian glides in to catch without breaking a sweat, you think that the season is lost becaused of his missing presence. Good lord what next, a candle memento for Timo Perez and El Duque. The 2nd half of this season our hitters became pull hitters for the most part and were exploited by low and away pitching. Rowand would of been one of many right handed victims on low and away stuff just like he was last year. If AJ was the AJ of the first half when he forgot about power asperations, and just shot the ball all over and had a great average he would of been a much better fit than the AJ who hit .250 and had more power. If Thome was the same guy earlier in the year who hit the ball all over the field hard. If Konerko was a guy who picked up people who walked Thome, and made them pay. Then our offense would of been fine. But to blame it on someone is missing that was on the WS DVD and blame it on that is a joke. Excellent post.

White Sox are Done
QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 12:00 AM) if he played it like he was expecting the runner to go then he would have had his momentum going forward and probably would have had a much better through instead he did sit there, and because of that he had to throw flat-footed which affected his strength if you play catch you can see that the ball goes twice as quick if you get a running start because you generate power out of your legs, instead he threw flat footed and had just his arm to get the ball to the plate, thats why the guy was safe Wow. I can't believe you are trying to defend that play. There was no excuse for him to play it the way he did. None whatsoever. He should always assume that the runner will tag up and run. That's what is taught in little league.

QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 11:25 PM) that was a balance issue, not an arm issue Are you kidding me? He had time to eat a cheeseburger while he stood there waiting for the ball to lazily drop into his mitt.

QUOTE(SABR Sox @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 11:05 PM) He still has a very good arm... A lot of good that arm was last night when he decided throwing flat-footed to home was the way to go.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 10:38 PM) Dye is an excellent outfielder. Why are you so down on Jermaine Dye? I think the guy is our MVP this year for sure. He is an excellent hitter. His defense isn't as good as some are making it out to be. His range is not very good and he is slow.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 05:28 PM) Time for Frank to seriously just kill our season. This AB could be what gives him comeback player of the year over Thome who has been non-existent.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 11:01 PM) THis is a prime example of how stats suck. Freddy gets a no decision, and he pitched his heart out. Well that just proves he's a bad pitcher because only wins matter (according to what I've heard from some people on this site).
