Contreras and the Big Lie, Apparently
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) Jose has some mechanical issues, and he's gone away from what made him great. However, Contreras is not as good as he looked for that extended stretch. He's never had pinpoint control....and then all of a sudden, he was able to throw any pitch he wanted in the perfect location. I don't think he's hurt - I think he's been inconsistent his entire career. Obviously we got him for a great stretch and hopefully he'll get back to that. Remember when he got good again and the reason why? He started throwing fastballs for strikes and didn't insist on throwing the splitter so much. Why not go back to that? His fastball made that splitter unhittable, not the other way around.

Ozzie finally sees the light
QUOTE(TheHammer @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 06:22 AM) I would prefer to have Dye hit behind the two guys with .400 OBPs. me too. I thought Jimmy did a great job in the 3 hole. Had JD not gotten so hot the last two weeks this wouldn't even be an issue.

Anybody head to Tucson for training?
Thanks for the offer. I'm there every year but I stay up in Phoenix. More teams to watch and just overall a more fun place to be. The Angels stay at the same hotel so it's kind of cool.

Detroit Tigers World Series Thread
QUOTE(Bonderman38 @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) Just kept pounding the ball into the ground.. To the guy who asked why DMeat was third- He plays against righties, and Pudge is dropped down because Dmitri is more of a power threat than him. It has been like this for a couple weeks now. Wang is a different pitcher in the Bronx than he is on the road. Unfortunately Robertson looked good (although he did escape some jams). I was hoping that he would continue to stumble.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 10:59 AM) Right now, he's not even the best 3rd baseman in the league. If nothing else, he's been outclassed in every aspect of the game this season by Joe Crede. Joe's the man. Getting close to Rivera time in the Bronx. Yankees have really let gumboy off the hook today.

2-0 yankees it's amazing how ineffective a-rod has become. I still think he's the best player in the league.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 09:52 AM) Wouldn't it be super duper spiffy to be 3.5 games back of Detroit in about 10 hours? Yes indeedee. But if Captain Nate keeps escaping trouble like this...

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 09:31 AM) Detroit's lineup today looks worse than anything the White Sox ran out last year. Mags loves playing in Yankee Stadium - can't believe he's not in the lineup. carlos guillen with another error. shocking.

AND THIS BALL GAME IS OVA!!!
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 07:39 PM) I'll say this much: If we do make the playoffs, I want Freddy in the 'pen. I'll take my chances on Javy solving his 6th inning debacles over Sweaty Freddy Moyer and his 15 stolen bases allowed a game. Leave Javy off the post-season roster and bring up some speed. Have Bmac warm in the 1st when freddy pitches.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) I don't see how you can say that, though. The Twins are like roaches. They ain't goin' nowhere. exactly. They're playing some of the best baseball in the majors right now.

I'm glad they kept their foot on the throat and didn't give the drays any hopes of winning a game in this series. These bean balls are getting old.
