  1. "And unless a case is made that the investment yields a long-term return for the taxpayers that we can justify in some way, I haven’t seen that yet."

Is he suggesting they should also propose opening a migrant camp on the 78? 🤣

of the $50B in his budget I wonder how much of that actually "yields a long-term return for the taxpayers"

  2. a lot of people seem ignorant to how the world really works. At the end of the day, JR and JB are on the same team. Billionaires look out for other billionaires...

you're also forgetting that the newest Sox shareholder (30%) has assets worth over double JRs and didn't just buy in to stay at 35th when a prime location is available. The money is already there but JR is doing his due diligence to squeeze as much juice as he can.

the most interesting scenario to come out of all this seems to be the bears building on the north parking lots. A perfect storm is brewing where everyone wins.

It’s obvious the Orioles would now try to sell a package of Kjerstad OR Cowser but Getz will try for Mayo now.

O's might as well pay the premium now instead of at the deadline. They had the extra leverage of always being able to offer Ortiz at the break for the best SP but got lucky when the brewers gave up early.

But I decided to make a brief exception today to mention the ZiPS projection for Cease that came out today.  Briefly, the median projection is for 166 innings at a 3.90 ERA, 111 ERA+.

We've all accepted that cease will degrade into a 33 year old cease for the 2024 season. that's why his value only tops out at a joey ortiz 1:1 trade.

I think I would do Westburg, Beavers, McDermott & Horvath for Cease. I am not thrilled with a 25 year old 2B as the big piece here but its a solid overall package IMO.

We're sitting on cowser as the current (rumored) main piece and you want to downgrade to westburg? no shot. I see the O's moving forward with Kjer as their LF/RF and eventually cashing out on cowser.

    Getz still wants Mayo tho...

This just isn’t true…Mayo in RF, Basallo at first/back up C, Cowser in LF, Westburg at second, Kjerstad at first/RF/DH

They actually have a lot of potential flexibility.  Elias wants versatile guys.

cowser will not replace hays in LF until 2026. So you're willing to hoard 3 best case 50 grade RFs for an extra 2 years instead of building the best AL team in 24/25? okay

Face it, Mayo and Kjer have no place on the orioles and your GM is just going to waste their primes...

And that’s fine. Maybe you just say F it..don’t rebuild because of how the draft is now. Maybe you just roll with what you have and see if you can build while trying to win. That’s fine too.

most of us here lived through 2005 and are content knowing there will never be another white sox team to top them. The O's on the other hand have a chance to build their best team since Ripken started his streak...

but they're balking over giving up their 2026 1B (Mayo) or 2025 RF (Cowser) and 2026 DH (Kjer)

When discussing this, most of you are only looking as the best case scenario.

None of you are saying, maybe Getz is just asking for too much and that he needs to adjust to avoid any potential longer term issues.

I'd rather enjoy watching at least 25 Sox games this year with Cease then settling on players that will make little impact over 6 years 🤷‍♂️

  9. Looking at the orioles depth chart its clear their GM wants all 3 of the stud prospects we need a package built around starting for them in 2025.

I'm fully prepared for the rumored AJSS+ return unless the dodgers can top them.

This is part of the issue. Cease isn’t a frontline starter.

Hes the ace of half the league and the #2 on the other half...

  10. have to wonder what the dodgers offer for cease is/was. TB got one of their best SP prospects and a player that could be a sox RF starter for 1 season of a 120 inning pitcher...

With mlb-ready Sheehan,Stone, and Grove available they still have enough ammo to get cease but without Pepiot it doesn't look as attractive. Sox still in a position to trade their ace to fill their 2/3/4 SP holes for the next 5 years.
