QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) Contreras sucks. His sub 2.50 ERA the last month and a half isn't good enough! It is kinda scary to think that JC has been our Ace in the 2nd half.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 12:00 PM) We need some hitters that can actually hit in the clutch. A few .300+ hitters wouldn't hurt either

QUOTE(downstairs @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) Every team has a 1-in-8 chance in the playoffs. It is a crapshoot. No two ways about it. Sorry that isn't sexy... but it just statistically true. You get there, you roll the dice. I just hope to GOD we get there. Or else I'm going to have to shelf my Sox gear for awhile, stop listening to sports talk radio for a loooooong time, and change my name on XBOX live from ChiSox4Life to ANYTHING else

QUOTE(downstairs @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) Yeah, tell me about it. Kinda like the hapless 2004 Red Sox, 2003 Marlins, 2002 Angels, 2002 Giants, 2000 Mets.... Personally i think we have a better chance at going deep in the postseason as the WC team. But the way were playing now, we'll be lucky to get there. And of course blowing the division probably won't exude alot of confidence either.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) You have got to protect in those situations Pods! Does anyone know how many K's looking has has this season? Reminds me of D. Jimenez. Wow does this offense suck.

Meanwhile Pods takes ANOTHER called 3rd strike.

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) No... It's really sad what we sox fans have been put through so far. First we were happy to be the best in the majors then the league then happy to win the division and now the wild card?? It's just pitiful. 5-2 Toronto now.......It is pathetic that were looking at the WC right now, but that's the reality of our situation.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 11:38 AM) On a team with a struggling offense, you give someone like Gload, Anderson, or Borchard the chance to give you a spark in a game. Like I mentioned earlier, Ozzie is going down with his starting lineup on the field, and that's commendable. Too little too late maybe. He conceded about 5 games IMO w/ his s*** lineups earlier in the season. If we won 3 or 4 of those, we would have a 7-8 game lead right now.

QUOTE(tony72 @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) If they blow their lead to Cleveland - but still make the wildcard - that is not so terrible (the playoffs are the playoffs !).. But if they don't even make the wild card - I cannot watch this team for a few years no matter how good they play. I hate to say that - but as much as I love the Sox we as fans have been treated very badly some years (the 1994 strike, the White Flag trade, etc.) and I will refuse to let this team do that. Ken Williams could have picked up a bat...he could have gotten someone other than Griffey - a Graffinino, etc...he did fail. And Ozzie gave away at least 10 to 15 games this year with continuously pulling our best hitters (Iguchi, etc.) to give a .200 hitter a chance and not hurt their feelings.... "I want to rest my players" - well you do that AFTER you have clinched a playoff berth...have you noticed no one has been resting since the lead began to shrink? Now maybe they will all get a lot of rest after October 3rd...YOU PUT THE BEST OUT THERE EVERYDAY TO GIVE THE TEAM THE BEST CHANCE TO WIN...YOU DON'T KEEP PLAYING EL DUQUE WHEN HE GIVE UP A RUN AN INNING BECAUSE YOU DON'T WANT HIM TO FEEL BAD AND ALSO GET HIS INNINGS FOR HIS $180,000 BONUS... I am sorry to rant....but there have been so many bad moves by Ozzie, KW, etc. the last few months. This should not be happening... When I mean blow it, I mean not making the postseason.

I've just come to the conclusion that if we don't make it, this whole team besides the pitching can be blown up IMO.

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) If it wasn't meant to be then I would rather have lost it because of a short lead but because it was 15 just makes it very very bad. Yep. If we do blow this, it's going to be VERY hard for this franchise to overcome this for quite awhile. Sad but true.

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) It really sucks that we have come down to rooting for Kansas City to beat Cleveland. God damn it Sox if you blow this, I think a part of me might die. I'm not counting on KC beating Cleveland or TB for that matter. We need to take 4 of 6 or at least split w/ them if were still going to win this division. Other than that, I'm rooting for whoever plays the YAnks or Boston.

White Sox vs. Twins 09/18/05
Wright left the game for the YAnks w/ an injury. Leiter in!!!

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) Cleveland won. They're up 4-0, and KC has no chance against C.C., who over the last two months has stepped up like the upper echelon pitcher he is. CC had a so-so 1st half, and he's having a great 2nd half. That does not equate to an upper echelon pitcher IMO. But he is stepping it up when it counts the most.
