  1. QUOTE (the People's Champ @ May 3, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) Send him home to Zona, I'll take Conner Jackson in an even swap If the Diamond backs were only that dumb.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 3, 2008 -> 01:53 PM) I f***ing hate Thome. I mean hate. And I say that because I absolutley hate his style of baseball (ie, I'm going to either slug it 10000 feet or strike out or do something s***ty). He's not a hitter. Manny Ramirez, Pujols they both hit for power, but they also have tremendous approaches and that makes them dangerous hitters all the time, where as Thome has a horrid approach and just goes all hit or miss. The Sox need more legitimate "hitters" on this team and less pure "sluggers". Thome is also old and I still think he has trade value. I've been saying it for a long time too, this team will be better without Thome (because of what you can get by moving him and the fact that it should free up the Sox ability to move Swisher down and get a legitimate leadoff hitter which is something Ozzie needs). I know Thome will have top stats at the end of the day, but I completely don't buy into the bulls*** approach that OPS is king. I think it is important but also show me a hitters approach and how he's capable of coming up in the clutch. I also would have no problem if they moved away from Konerko (although Paulie typcially has a good approach, you can see his bat speed is slowing down and he has relied on that for a large chunk of his career). I'd say keep Dye cause he's signed pretty affordably. Oh and the pure slugging thing is one of the reasons I'm not as high on Josh Fields as most (because I don't see him being much different, but at least he has decent footspeed and can go from 1st to 3rd). You can still win by building around this rotation and making some more tweaks to make this lineup more athletic (and I don't just mean more speed, rather, more good baseball hitters and less pure sluggers). You my friend are a baseball mind, that is not limited to an OPS degree. Seems like you have played the game and understand it to a wider extent.
  3. QUOTE (Soxpranos @ May 3, 2008 -> 01:52 PM) So is a player with an higher OPS better? What makes the player better , OPS or other factors? Still waiting?
  4. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 3, 2008 -> 01:50 PM) OPS=OnBasePercentage+SluggingPercentage. I am infact an expert on the subject. So is a player with an higher OPS better? What makes the player better , OPS or other factors?
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 3, 2008 -> 01:47 PM) I hate Jim Thome. There, I've said it again. It has nothing to do with him, he'll get his stats but he's not a winner. I f***ing hate "sluggers". Give me hitters who can also hit for power. Guys like Adam Dunn, Jim Thome are losers plain and simple. They don't know how to truly hit and because of that it is all "hit" or "miss" with them. I still say the offense has a lot of the tools, it just needs a bit of a tweaking (ie move Thome or Konerko and make some adjustments and try to get yourself a legit leadoff hitter so you can move Swisher down in the lineup). That is what I was trying to say, Ill take a guy that hits the gaps and hit for power as well, but also be able to move around the bases. Thome has had a good career but does not fit in with this team.
  6. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 3, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) Now you can't answer the question? I have an idea but , since you seem to be an expert, please explain so I and anyone else that are not up to par get it right.
  7. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 3, 2008 -> 01:45 PM) Thats not what we are talking about. You made a claim about others on this board, not about you claim to see to see. Oh, and OPS messures production. You just seem to have some stigma about OPS. Is it because you don't understand the stat, and how it's measured? Could be.
  8. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 3, 2008 -> 01:37 PM) Who is debating that? I'm simply going on production and defense., If I am wrong , I am wrong but that is just my opinion giving the numbers they have produced.
  9. QUOTE (Brian @ May 3, 2008 -> 01:16 PM) I don't care about age or whatever, but whoever says they would take Konerko over Derek Lee right now, needs their head examined. K, all you hear about in this board is how the OPS is so valuable, but when you mention that another player from a different team has a better OPS than ours, we are crazy?
  10. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 3, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) You're crying about other teams getting younger, yet Lee is older than Konerko. He was still older than Konerko when they got him. Was talking about when they got Thome, did not mention P.K. only that hes getting up there in age. Your the one that started crying about the age difference which is about 6 months.
  11. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 3, 2008 -> 01:02 PM) The same "D.Lee" who is older than Konerko? That D.Lee? When they got him, I'll take D. Lee over Konerko anyday. Yeah that D. LEE
  12. Nice job Danks. In all serious nous, Kenny has pretty much handicapped Ozzie with this team. If Ozzie envisioned this line up as his type of line up and asked Kenny to get this, than he needs to e accountable, but I highly doubt he did. It all started with the signing of Thome, I know allot of you guys were so happy but we get a guy thats in the last years of his career. Other teams get younger players like, D. LEE , Cabrerra etc. and we seem to always get older players and give up young talent that can easily do no worse than what we have. Bottom line this team is very slow and are limited to what they can do, our number 3 and 4 hitters are either singles or homers where something that more important than an OPS is extra base hits. That my friends is what we don't have.
  13. This is payback for laughing at the Cubs team all those years.
  14. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ May 3, 2008 -> 12:36 PM) Well, I'll be in San Fran in two weeks to see them at AT&T Park. Unfortunately, the Giants are the better team at this point and if Cain, Lincecum or Sanchez pitch against them..... San Francisco is a very nice place compared to Detroit. Have fun, guess ill end up in Canada for the night life at least 2 of those nights.
  15. The Jays have a nice approach at the plate.
  16. LOL, at Hawk, every team we play is a "Good ball Club" What is he trying to say, that the Sox are not?
  17. Whats Thome's OPS after the 7th inning? Good ol OPS.
  18. Damn, bought 8 tickets for that Grinders trip to Detroit. Why did I do that 3 weeks ago?
  19. The Sox need to take Swisher out of the lead off spot, they are doing more harm than good. Whats the differnece if we put someone else in the spot, Swisher is not getting the job done.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2008 -> 12:05 PM) What happened Swisher hits a grounder thats very close to being fair, and he stands at the batters box watching it. !st baseman stretches , catches and steps o the bag. You hustle from the start period especially on close plays.
  21. Nice hitting by Wells going the other way, 1-0 Jays.
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 3, 2008 -> 12:00 PM) Yikes. Look at the batting averages of our first 4 hitters. How can you be a serious contender with your first 4 guys batting so terribly? I think Carlos Zambrano is hitting better than all 4 of these guys. Try every Cub except for the pitchers and Pie.
  23. Typical, guy looks at the ball instead of hustling. This team is screwed up mentally.
