  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 01:04 PM) So I could totally write a dissertation pointing out the velocity of money and the lack of true central banking in this era, and how even if you tried it would be nearly impossible to destroy the economy in a matter of under a year, but why bother, we got a meme here. More relevant to today - SB making a comment about the Republican Party's control in 1928 and the ensuing stock market crash in 1929, or the fact that the Republicans have spent the last 8 years blaming the recession of 2008 on Obama...
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 10:51 AM) I like it. Though some of the cabinet positions still frighten me, the white supremecist anti-semite bigot primarily. Yep. Bannon needs to go.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 05:10 PM) Aside from it being painful, with the core developing fine, and just incredible weaknesses from their DB/QB positions, this really may be good news in allowing a franchise altering draft. OTOH, we've had two top 5 picks last 15 years and one was Benson and the other was traded back for michael haynes and rex grossman. This year's draft looks good. Goldman looks like a stud from last year's draft. There's good stuff for the Bears. This is just going to be a couple years longer as a process.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 12:24 PM) This is one of those hard games to evaluate. The defense looked fantastic the first half until it seemed to wither after all the meltdowns by the Bears offense. Jordan Howard and Floyd played fantastic. Hell, the dline looked great for the 1st half. Disappointing how the defense came out to start the second half though. I didn't pay much attention after that. The big thing to me is Floyd is looking like a legit pass-rusher, which is huge and despite the fumble, Howard looked like a beast. Cutler was freaking awful. Worst game I've ever seen him play. Oline didn't help him, but man that was ugly. He looked off the whole game. Second half usage of Howard made no sense: 1) If he was in fact hurting, then Fox putting him back in for one last carry on the last drive of the game was criminal. 2) If he wasn't hurting, and it was punishment for the fumble, then that's one of the least effective ways of getting through to a young player. Fumbles happen, particularly for young RBs. Don't make the kid over think, just let him play. Keep working on ball security with him in practice, but one fumble should not equal a second half benching.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 10:29 AM) Was together with my brothers last night. We realized that my mom may lose her medical benefits from her job, which had only been added because of ACA, and then we had to figure out how we'd help cover her additional costs if medicare is gutted. And we can take care of her, scared for others. Medicare is actually a popular program. Ryan attacking Medicare (assuming that does in fact happen) will be political suicide. Also, some good fact checking on Medicare solvency from the Washington Post... https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-ch...is-going-broke/
  6. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 02:27 PM) If the electors don't pick Trump, that would be an even bigger disaster than Trump being President. Also, I would like to buy life insurance on those electors. Yep. I'm extremely anti-Trump, and I also think the Electoral College is archaic and should be scrapped. But it's the system we have now. Faithless electors would be an absolute disaster.
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 04:05 PM) I was just talking with my friend about how all this talk of the electoral college needing to change needed to stop and that we need to think long and hard and not overreact to the results of the election. But damn, a 2 million vote difference in popular vote while Clinton might lose the election 310-228 in electoral votes just does not seem right at all. I thought Gore had it bad, but wow. That's why any talk of "mandates" is silly. The Republicans lost seats in the House, but fewer than projected. They lost seats in the Senate, but fewer than projected. They lost the popular vote for the Presidency, but won several states that they were not projected to win (WI, MI and PA in particular). So they exceeded expectations in the election, and control the Legislative and Executive branches, but I hardly see this as a complete endorsement of Conservative principles. To the extent that the Republicans overplay their hand, they risk the backlash the Democrats experienced in 2010.
  8. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 06:41 PM) It really is a shame that scum like Travis Ford is gonna benefit from all of this at Saint fricken Louis University. Time will prove that he's still a terrible coach. I don't follow much beyond the B1G schools in basketball recruiting, but is there a Power 5 school in the country with worse luck with de-commits than Illinois? I know de-commits happen all the time in football, but they seem to be way less prevalent in basketball. In the last decade, we've had Gordon, Snider, and now probably Tilmon all flip right around signing day. What the hell is wrong with this program?
  9. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 05:09 PM) To be clear, my point about the sexism stuff being overblown is the ferocity with which people complain about it, not that it was right/wrong/acceptable. We literally celebrate Bill Clinton and ignore that he was the same guy, using his position to take advantage of at least one woman, and rape or abuse others as claimed. If we're consistent, if you voted for/support Bill Clinton, you're a sexist. That's the logic train here with Trump. I think both positions are bulls***. I think it's pretty clear from Trump's words and deeds (and the accounts of others), that he is at best a sexist. At worst, he's sexually assaulted a number of women. Both the amount of evidence that supports Trump being that guy and societal norms make this different than when Clinton campaigned either time.* It's not that people who voted for Trump are sexist, it's that they are quite alright with a guy that has done and said what Trump did and said during the campaign occupying the White House. * Note, I think that if Bill Clinton ran for President on the D ticket in this day and age, he would have never made it out of the primary because of his issues with women in the past.
  10. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 04:54 PM) I haven't and I don't find it acceptable. However I'm not going to lie and stand on my soap box and pretend like i haven't said/thought something that objectifies or sexualizes women in a way that i'm not particularly proud of. We all do and if you say you haven't you're full of s***. We were all 12 years old once. Donald Trump is not 12 years old. He is also the President Elect of the United States of America.
  11. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 04:54 PM) He didn't say anything about Muslim-Americans Are you that dense? Hey, this guy released a statement that, including preventing every member of my religion from coming to this country also said that 25% of people of my religion are in favor of terror attacks against the US. But I should feel pretty ok that he thinks I'm quite alright!
  12. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 04:49 PM) Regarding the first link: you clearly forgot thr rest of the sentence in your post. And was this not right after some sort of terrorist event? "UNTIL we figure what is going on" Not forever If you are a Muslim-American, would you feel good about any of those qualifications?
  13. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 04:37 PM) I think this is simply a concern that, while fair, is only a concern with a slim possibility of happening. No one of credence is pushing for this. I'd like to think the vast majority of the country realizes gays should be afforded every right that straight people get. If gay rights are the big concern, shouldn't democrats be worried about their own party? Pew research shows that Whites are 15% more likely to be in support of gay rights than black people. The Republican National Platform on gay marriage is quoted in the below article: http://time.com/4411842/republican-platfor...ns-wall-street/ Every single one of the Republican candidates for the presidency campaigned on being against gay marriage. http://www.hrc.org/2016republicanfacts These are the states whose Republican legislatures attempted to pass bills allowing businesses to not provide wedding services to gay couples because of religious freedom. https://www.aclu.org/other/anti-lgbt-religi...-across-country There is nothing even remotely similar from the Democrats side. I see no reason that any LGBT individual would have to be worried in the least about a Democratic administration coming after their rights. I see plenty of reasons that LGBT individuals would be very concerned about a Republican administration. And even if Trump isn't anti-LGBT, would he veto a religious freedom law if it came across his desk? Because that's almost definitely coming from the Republican house and Senate (if they can get through a filibuster).
  14. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 04:31 PM) Pretty much all his words are twisted or people hear what they want to hear. He wants illegal immigrants out that pose a threat to our country. But people hear Muslim or Mexican and assume he means the whole race when it isn't the case. https://www.donaldjtrump.com/press-releases...lim-immigration This is from Trump's campaign website in December of 2015 calling for a complete ban on Muslims entering the country. Here's Trump on the Mexican-American judge on the bench in the case vs. Trump University. http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/03/politics/don...mp-tapper-lead/ This isn't a twisting of words. Trump said a number of things during his campaign that were anti-Muslim and anti-Mexican. I can't believe that's even a debate.
  15. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 04:25 PM) The Left at least has merit when it comes to what Trump said about Mexicans and Muslims. That's simply inexcusable. Though his words were twisted a bit on Muslims because he was referring to terrorists or extremists at points. Why the left is crying for the LGBT community and blaming Trump (Pence fine, Trump no) I don't understand. Trump spoke out against the whole NC bathroom debacle and brings out rainbow flags at his rallies. He has stated multiple times he doesn't care which bathrooms trans people use at his hotel. The biggest issue with Trump on LGBT rights is his choice of replacement for Scalia and for any other justice that steps down during Trump's presidency. The list of justices that Trump released during his campaign are all hard line right wing justices. Conservatives, since Obergfell, have decried activist judges who dared to provide gays with the right to marry. There's plenty of evidence to suggest that, even if Trump doesn't care about those issues personally, his administration, and those that he appoints to his administration, will actively work to undo the progress made on LGBT rights over the last 20 years.
  16. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 02:36 PM) I said borderline, but you're talking about national security workers abandoning their jobs because they don't like the democratically elected president. I'd consider that a betrayal to the people/country they serve. It would never be actionable, but it's close. National security officials quitting their jobs isn't even close to treason.
  17. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 01:40 PM) No but when he posts identifiable people speaking you can take that seriously. And when Shaun King links to actual news stories it's not something you take seriously?
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 12:58 PM) Its polarizing, some really great ideas and some just awful ones. People need to look at the three tax brackets he proposed, because its not really helping the lower middle or lower class. Reminds me of the Sam Bee interview with Gary Johnson...
  19. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 12:46 PM) If Trump really tries to get that plan in action he will get killed. Does anyone disagree with term limits for Congress? Or stopping lobbyist shenanigans? Stopping lobbyist shennanigans is good. Term limits can be both good and bad. There are plenty of legitimate public servants whose experience in legislating helps get stuff done. When a new batch of Congress people get into office, they have to get up to speed on "how a bill becomes a law," they don't know anyone on the other side of the aisle to get stuff done with. Experienced Congress people, who are actually public servants, are a good thing. Off the top of my head, Dick Lugar was a great R Senator when I lived in Indiana. He worked across the aisle and seemed to actually have the country's best interests at heart. Right now, with Elizabeth Warren's willingness to take on banks and fight for consumers, I'd happily have her stay in the Senate forever. Bernie Sanders shouldn't be term limited out. I disagree with Rand Paul on basically everything, but he's consistent and doesn't appear to twist in the political winds. I don't have a problem with any of those people serving 30+ years in Congress. Someone like Mitch McConnell's, whose principles change entirely based on the prevailing wind and what he needs to do to get elected - we simply need to stop re-electing those guys. Not set up arbitrary term limits that actually drive the public servants who do their jobs out of Congress.
  20. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 12:34 PM) I couldnt disagree more with Mike Pence or any other far right persons views on gay rights. That said, Trump always seemed to say positive things about the LGBTQ community and would hold up rainbow flags at his rallies and stuff like that. Id be more worried about Roe V. Wade because he has actually mentioned that and he is gonna have the SCOTUS. As far as I know the only damage they could do in terms of abortion is kick it back to the states to decide, might be wrong on that, but Id really like the GOP to take this opportunity to update their archaic social views. If the GOP updated their archaic social views and their archaic environmental views, they would be a lot more palatable as a majority party. Neither are likely to happen over the next 4 years.
  21. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 12:17 PM) Shaun King is not reputable. Are any links that Shaun King shares not reputable as well?
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 12:26 PM) Changes won’t come immediately, but Vice President-elect Mike Pence is promising that some of the laws he believes are anti-Christian will be repealed as soon as possible. In a recent interview, Pence restated his commitment to abolishing birth control mandates and bathroom choice protection for Transgender people. Mike Pence has also been clear that he would like to defund Planned Parenthood, and overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision legalizing abortion, says LifeNews. Pence claims that along with Donald Trump, he will uphold the Hyde Amendment that prevents taxpayer dollars to be used for things that are “morally objectionable.” http://www.inquisitr.com/3698135/mike-penc...oom-protection/ I find Mike Pence morally objectionable. Maybe we won't have to pay him his VP salary?
  23. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 10:37 AM) I'll say it again, I hate the fact that we elected Trump, I full expect him to be pretty awful, but God damn is it entertaining watching you guys (and other liberals I know) freak out to the absolute extreme. All while i'm sure you laughed when Repub's were concerned that Obama was a socialist and was going to destroy the 2nd amendment. CALM. THE. f***. DOWN. This asshole was a Democrat the majority of his life. Just because he fooled a bunch of dumb Republicans into voting for him on a "conservative" platform doesn't mean he's actually going to do it. Obama did not campaign on being a Socialist. He did not campaign on destroying the 2nd Amendment. Those fears were stoked by ignorance, not by facts. Look at Trump's first 100 days pledge. Look at what he said about Muslims and Mexicans during the campaign. Look at Shaun King's twitter feed regarding racially motivated attacks on the first day of Trump as President elect. Look at the fact that he's likely to have America's largest climate denier involved at the high ranks of the EPA. There's legitimate hard evidence that Trump's policies - stated during campaigning and otherwise - are going to have pretty negative impacts on large portions of this country. I'm hopeful that Trump reigns it in and that he governs toward the center. I don't see any evidence to support that hope though...
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 9, 2016 -> 05:38 PM) I think a lot of it has to do with his running mate believing you can electric shock the gay out of people..... That plus the early lists for Scalia's seat that he put out during the campaign all being social conservatives, and that he has the potential to fill 3 other current moderate or liberal seats. Combine that with the Republicans (not necessarily Trump) spending a large portion of the campaign talking about "activist" judges and the Obergfell decision plus the fact that Mike Pence is really, really bad on LGBT rights (that needed to be said again - Pence is as religious right as you get in mainstream politics). Trump's individual views on LGBT issues probably aren't terrible, but everyone who surrounds him is really, really bad.
  25. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 9, 2016 -> 03:56 PM) Free or super cheap BC wasn't enough at Planned Parenthood? The greater the access to free or cheap contraception, the fewer unplanned pregnancies. That both reduces abortion and the burden on the system when people who can't afford to have children have an accident. http://www.npr.org/sections/itsallpolitics...y-not-last-long
