I didn’t notice anything and I walked through the OF concourse around the 5th inning.  That picture I posted showed multiple rows of bleachers cleared out, but people still sitting below and above said rows with zero level of panic.  I’m still guessing some sort of fight in the stadium (that drew blood) and then it carried over to the parking lot where a shooting took place.  I just don’t get how there wouldn’t be a mass exodus after an in-park shooting happened.

This is kind of what I was thinking. I don’t see how there could be a shooting and the place wouldn’t be cleared out.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard an interesting thing said by Jurko

He is also a fan of pretending to not know a player’s name which is just annoying. He gave a good scouting report on Skorownski and how good his feet were. That’s the only thing I can think of that was interesting that he said.

I like all the base hits I saw in the highlights of the game at mlb.com. Maybe we've learned from the Astros, who go with the pitch a lot and smoke regular hits, not just homers. Good to see Robert's batting average and Beni doing OK.

Sox lineup 'seems' to be decent even without Eloy. But our pitching and defense problems prolly will mean a ceiling of about .500 again. I see our starting pitching as being average to above average and the bullpen blah to a failure cept for Lopez.

    I love today's win though.

They did hit a lot of singles today...but they aren't trying to hit singles like it seemed like last year.  Their plate discipline could be better, but they seem to be hitting the ball harder than last year.  I have no stats to back that up but it just seems like they are.  At least TA, Robert, Moncada and Grandal seem to be hitting the ball harder.  The balance is much better as well (L/R) and I like that Grifol moved Moncada up while he is hitting well and has generally kept the same lineup.  If we could start hitting just a few more home runs I would feel even better about the offense.  I know we should take more walks...but if we are going to get this many singles in a game those are essentially the same thing as getting a walk.

Singles help very little in generating runs. Extra base hits help much, much more. That may seem obvious, but here's data to show how extreme this difference is.

I ran two correlations on 2022 to date team stats. One between runs scored and singles hit. One between runs scored and extra base hits.

    A correlation is a number between -1 and 1.

1 is a pefrect correlation. There is a 100% direct impact of one stat on the other

-1 is an inverse correlation. There is a 100% opposite impact of one stat on the other.

0 is no correlation. There is no impact of one stat on the other.

The correlation between singles and runs is .185. This means there is very little correlation between hitting singles and scoring runs.

The correlation between extra base hits and runs is .860. This means there is an extremely high correlation between extra base hits and scoring runs.

This literally took me 5 minutes to do. I don't understand why a $1B+ franchise doesn't have someone pulling data like this and using it to make decisions about players and coaches.

This is what frustrates me about this team and their apparent approach.  You would be better off with 5-6 hits in a game with 3-4 XBH than 11 hits in a game and 1 XBH.  Your average would be lower but you would score more runs.  Like you said this isn't very hard to figure out.

To be honest, firing Menechino would improve this team so much and actually make TLR a lot more bearable.  A lot of the stuff we get on TLR on is a symptom of not being able to hit home runs.  We start hitting the ball out of the park and the TLR stuff becomes moot.  At least my two cents.  I don't know what the fuck is keeping Menechino.

I agree with this 100%. And I really dislike Tony. Once he stopped with the crazy lineups he has been more tolerable.

  6. This is one of the BEST posts/threads I have seen ever.  On any site.  With carefully thought out analysis and logic.  Can you get a job with the White Sox?

Any kind of approach shouldn't be a one for all because it doesn't work like that for every hitter.  If you hit it better the other way (a la TA), great look outside and crush it.  If you are better suited pulling it and crushing it (Robert, Eloy Vaughn and probably Pollock), then great look for that in the zone and do it.  With 2 strikes just hit it where it is pitched to get on.  This isn't rocket science....we should be able to come up with plans based on the hitter.
