Am I the only one who would prefer James Paxton to Jose Quintana.

I guess my thought its you already have 3 innings eaters in the rotation so you can gamble a bit with higher upside.

Paxton/Kluber/Richards. Having Lynn gives you that chance at a flier.

Also if the money is right they could do Q as long relief/swing man. Or someone else. Extra insurance.

Posted this in another thread, but what if we signed one of Paxton/Kluber/Richards and then signed Q to be a long-reliever/spot starter (maybe he wants to pitch for a contender and doesn't want to leave Chicago?). Then your depth would be:

    1. Giolito

    2. Keuchel

    3. Lynn

    4. Paxton/Kluber/Richards

    5. Cease

Kopech to come up when he is ready for Cease if he is struggling or to replace someone who is injured

    Quintana long-relief/spot starter

I think getting Lynn sets you up better take a big swing at a Paxton/Kluber/Richards because those guys have a more boom or bust risk to them.  Also Lynn is not expensive to where you can pay those guys the 1 year flier.

Typically you can use this thing called cash to get people to play in places they would never dream of playing.  If its equal or close sure a choice might be made.  But in the end FA dollars matter.  So this is not really about FA not wanting to show up here.  Its because our ownership thinks that deferred dollars and team options late in your career are more valuable that guaranteed money and years from competing teams.  If the Royals pony up the highest amount of money by a good amount Bauer is putting on a Royals uniform and talking about how its a young exciting team and how he has always loved KC.

I don’t disagree that the Sox did not handle Machado correctly and have probably botched PLENTY of FA signings in the past. We definitely don’t know all the details. But we do know that Wheeler turned down more money to play elsewhere.  So it isn’t ALWAYS about the money.

They also know what Bauer is asking for/looking at. He is a very particular person and it could be something very specific. We have no idea with him.  I am just saying it isn’t as easy to say just sign any FA we want.

  4. All this talk of Bauer or Sox signing FA...what if guys just don’t want to sign here?  Just because Hahn gives an offer and in the case of Wheeler it was higher and he still didn’t sign here. We can’t make FA sign here.  Sometimes trades are your best options and they traded away a guy they view would probably be best as a 4/5 in a championship rotation.

  5. Finally some good news!  From everything I have seen this looks like a great hire.  I personally wanted Fetter (Tigers now 2-2 on hires that I thought would be good), but think Katz could be just as good.  He already did wonders with Giolito (so I am sure he is pumped), so hopefully he can do the same with Cease & Kopech.

I saw this mentioned elsewhere in this thread, but I hope this signals that Hahn is hiring the staff.  I am pretty sure LaRussa doesn't even know who this guy is.

Brooks is really a good guy. I had a couple emails to him many years ago, and he doesn't know me from Adam, but he replied, and they were  replies that didn't seem like "I guess I have to respond to this". They were well thought out,  answered by questions, and fired me up for the next Sox game.

I feel bad for him if his inbox is getting pounded. He deserves better.

So do I.  Outside of the very top I bet most didn't want this hire or if they were ok with it before now don't want it because of this shit storm.  It is really unfortunate because it was totally avoidable and we should be celebrating the growth of this team.

If you get in depth he will respond to you in due time, I’ve had a good conversation with him, he’s been really open about everything that he can be open about. The main thing I got was that he doesn’t know if TLR will be managing the Sox in 2021 but reiterated he’s not making the baseball decisions.

Same here.  I mentioned people I lost to drunk driving and he was very sympathetic over a few different emails.

So the answers people get back aren't the important part. That is these guys going in and saying that they got 500 emails, people canceling tickets etc that has a chance at adding up to a change. It's one thing to just complain, but is different to target the organization directly with those complaints.

100% agree.  Only reason I sent an email.  Paper trail of real people cancelling their tickets with the reason why.  No butts in the seats is about the only statement we can really make.

    Well what did he say?

Nothing groundbreaking, but it was at least a thoughtful response.  Main take away:

"Not much I can say but I get it.  I get the frustration, the disappointment and understand why fans are shaking their heads."

He then went on to thank me for being a partial season ticket owner talk about how hopefully we can shift our focus to the players on the field and talked about their accomplishments and how good they will be.  He also thanked me for actually putting my name on it.

Contact the team and let them know.

My dad and I had a 10 game plan and we chose not to renew and I let Brooks Boyer know about it.  He surprisingly responded within a day.  He basically said "Not much I can say but I get it.  I get the frustration, the disappointment and understand why fans are shaking their heads."  And then he mentioned hopefully we can turn our attention to the field and the players.  He also thanked me for actually putting my name on it...I guess they get a lot of anonymous emails complaining?  I am sure this is going to be nightmare for him and others in the FO not named Reinsdorf.

Guys, TLR isn't stepping down. He knew he got another DUI the day he got the new DUI. The Sox knew he had a DUI. These guys all have egos. TLR doesn't care about his DUI like he didn't care about the last one. He only cares he got caught. Just like he didn't care about steroids. Just like he doesn't care about his players or social isssues. He cares about himself only because in his mind he's Mr perfect HOF guy.

If his two DUI's are for crashing a car and falling asleep in an intersection imagine how many other times he's driven drunk? The two times he got caught was because he was so bad at driving that he literally basically turned himself in. He's likely driven drunk HUNDREDS OF TIMES. 60 years of driving + considering it was more socially acceptable in the 70's/80's and he was younger then? I'd guess he's driven drunk 400-500 times. Once a month for 60 years = 720 times.

I've had people in my life who are serial drunk drivers ... they always think they're above the law, better drivers than others, the law doesn't apply to them, etc. etc. TLR is that guy.

He's proven his ego is HUGE. He's proven he doesn't follow rules (dui and steroids) hes proven that he does not have a very pristine track record around social issues ... yet here we are. This is like a $13 beer at the park, you have to suck it up and like it because it's uncle Jerry's world and if you want to have a break from your shitty life for a few hours to watch a game, well by damn, it will be done on billionaire jerry's terms.

Only way he resigns is if he just realizes he doesn't want to deal with the whole situation...which given his ego like you mention, seems unlikely.
