  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) This pitching staff is intact for several years to come. JC is the only one in danger of skipping town when his contract is up. Garland is in arbitration and will most likely get a multi year deal. I hope so. But you have to have the money for all of that.
  2. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) I am not suggesting Konerko/Thomas + Gload is as good as Konerko + Thomas. Clearly it's not. I'm saying that if we can't get both playing, that we can still win with Konerko/Thomas + Gload, and that I think that's a better idea than Konerko/Thomas + Pricey-free-agent, for the money and for the team's future. And, I am confident that Gload is likely to put up better numbers than Everett did at DH.
  3. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) Have you watched the White Sox at all this year? Are you familiar with this organization? If you are, then even mentioning that Gload is going to get a chance on this team will make you look unknowledgeable. Gload will never be mainstay on this roster, this is fact, deal with it. I've watched them all year. And I still don't see why you are so sure he won't work. I simply don't agree. I think he's a real possibility, and one that could be successful. If you really want to just throw tons of money out there to get just any experienced DH-type, then you'll exhaust the money you want to keep this pitching staff intact for years to come. I personally would not be willing to make that sacrifice, unless (for the umpteenth time) we have neither Konerko or Thomas (and therefore, a giant hole in the middle of the lineup).
  4. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) Like your posts. Our internal resources will not replace our best hitter. If you read my posts again, you'll see it's clear I don't suggest that. If Konerko leaves, he has to be replaced (offensively) by Thomas or an FA. But if one or the other of those two is around (but not both), that opens up a spot, where I'd put that internal resource. I am not suggesting Konerko/Thomas + Gload is as good as Konerko + Thomas. Clearly it's not. I'm saying that if we can't get both playing, that we can still win with Konerko/Thomas + Gload, and that I think that's a better idea than Konerko/Thomas + Pricey-free-agent, for the money and for the team's future. But again, if both are not around, then clearly we need to make bigger moves outside the organization.
  5. QUOTE(rbloom03 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 03:48 PM) NorthSideSox72 - how long were you on hold? Twice now my husband has been on hold for 30 minutes and has had to hang up due to meetings. We put our deposit down before the regular season ended and had hoped to select our seats before the plans were made available in general. Hopefully one of these days we'll get through! I wasn't on hold for long, less than a minute, but I did have to wait. When they picked up, I said I wanted to talk with someone about season tickets, and they transferred me to one of their agent's voice mail (Brad). I left a message, said I wanted a 27 game plan, and left a number to call back at. He called back a few hours later. He said they were a few hours behind in returning calls. If you already put your deposit down, I'd think your agent/person would have called you back in the order you put down your deposit. Have you tried contacting the person who took your deposit directly? Sorry you are having issues. I did not put any deposit down, just paid it all in full yesterday.
  6. QUOTE(Wanne @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) No it doesn't...but a World Series winner = more $$$. And hasn't that been a big b**** for a long time...not having the $$$. Kenny has proven that he knows how to build a winner...and that chemisty is equally as important. We'll never see KW and Jerry take on an albatros like Manny...but having more $$$ due to a series win could prove very beneficial. Milk it while you can. I do definitely agree with the bolded statements. It's good to have the cash. We may very well have no choice but to spend a lot more this year. But I think that if we can spend a little more this year, that could also work, as long as at least one of Konerko or Thomas can play. That leaves us more room to spend the BIG cash we'll need to spend on our stellar picthing staff next year and the year after. Just trying to see this from the long term perspective.
  7. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) What's that? Wins. I just used 3 because that's the number of $ I used. Sorry, seemed clear at the time.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 03:17 PM) So by you're plan for the offseason, our payroll will drop from last seasons $75 million? I'm sure that will go over well... I stated my plan earlier. It depends on who is back and healthy... If: Konerko and Thomas both back and healthy, then there you have your 3-4 hitters. Maybe add Gload as the backup. If: Konerko and Thomas both not playing, then go get that high-priced FA for one spot, and give the other to Gload or Rogo or JD. If: One is back and not the other, well, probably the same as above, in some form. I would want a winning team, which may or may not require much increase in salary. There would be some increase in any case, with Konerko OR and FA, plus the raises. Has no one learned yet, even after the World Series, that $$$ does not necessarily equal WWW?
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 03:14 PM) I thought I did Yes, you did. Since it was stated so nonchalantly, I figured you were referring to how likely he was to move up, not that he was actually gone. Sometimes such things aren't clear at first glance.
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 03:10 PM) Daigle isnt in our Organization anymore, give it up. He is no longer a prospect. So be it. Then leave it to Gload, or maybe Rogo. I still think we need to consider our own resources before spending a ton of new money. Give them a shot.
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) Someone tell this guy that Daigle is no longer with the sox organization, thanks Are you not capable of doing that yourself? But seriously, if that's true, I was not aware of that. If it's not, then I ask, does anyone have any reason to not to think highly of a guy who was considered the league MVP at high-A? At least enough to give him a look? I think the insistence on getting a high-priced FA is narrow-minded.
  12. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 03:01 PM) Daigle was a 26 year old who dominated high A ball and then struggled in aaa, not very impressive. Rogo most likely is going to have to develop some more power if he ever gets a shot to be an everday player in the major leagues and Ross isn't a prospect. Daigle spent 25 games at AAA. Not enough time for his stats to mean much. But like I said, i didn't see him in person. You can call Gload whatever you'd like, prospect or not, but I still think he could be very good at 1B at the MLB level. With all three taking a shot, I think the chances of one doing at least as well offensively as Everett (and better defensively, but at 1st) are very, very good.
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) Daigle is gone because well...he's not very good, Rogo is still a year away if he ever gets a shot to be a starter and as much as I like Gload there is no chance the sox give him a shot to be an everyday player. If Paul is gone you'll either see a trade for a first baseman or Jermaine moving to first and finding another power bat in the outfield. OK, so I don't watch these guys play much (other than Gload), but... Daigle is not very good? He just won an award that is basically MVP in his league! I don't know much about Rogo, but the one scouting report I found was awfully good. And Gload is probably ready, though he apparently has some personality issues to work out with Ozzie.
  14. If Konerko leaves... And Thomas is healthy... Then give 1B up to a contest between our minor league starting 1B's, who are all among the best at their levels: Gload, Rogowski, or Daigle. Let them duke it out in spring training. Let the best man win. Now if Thomas is also gone next year, then I'm less apt to lean on an exposed rookie that way. But even then, if we go get a solid bat for DH/1B, I still think the other spot should go in-house as I stated above. Heck, even if Thomas and Konerko are both back, I'd still say we should have one of those three guys on the roster. It just seems a shame that we are looking outside the organization so completely when we are so well-stacked at 1B in our own system. They've gotta get a shot sometime!
  15. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) I asked about the 27 game plan today by email and I was told that they are not available yet. Thank you for your email regarding season tickets for the 2006 season. Due to the high volume of calls and emails regarding season tickets, we are unable to assist you as quickly as we would like, and we greatly appreciate your patience. Well, the email is wrong. I got tickets Wednesday afternoon, and there was at least one other person on this thread who did as well. I didn't bother with email - I called the Sox season ticket office (312-674-1000). Brad hooked me up. We got great seats.
  16. QUOTE(SoxPhan7 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 12:48 PM) does anyone have the phone # to get a 27 game plan? I emailed the sox about a week ago and I am still waiting for a response. thanks alot! As I've told a number of people, if you want any details on season tickets, including phone numbers, go to whitesox.com. It's all there, if you just look around a bit.
  17. 13 Game plans are non-designated (had one in 2005). As far as what is best available right now for full season or split, I got section 522 Row 1 ( ) in the weekday split plan ("Hit and Run"), but that was yesterday afternoon. It was the best available UD at the time, unless we wanted further back (Row 4) but closer to home plate. We prefered front row, further out. Not sure how many have sold since then, but the agent I worked with made it sound like they were plenty busy.
  18. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) Then are chances go down even more. Born in Rhode Island, high school in Arizona. I guess getting closer to Phoenix or RI would be the "home town discount". That may be very true. He's a tough read. Not sure where is heart would take him, or if it would take him at all.
  19. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 11:08 AM) Tex, Kong is going to get a max deal. And that isnt going to be here. The hometown discount is a myth. The comments he made at the rally were probably just things that were caught up in the moment. His agent is going to shop him around and get the max deal. The Angels after watching Kong destroy them, and them needing a RH bat makes a perfect fit. Moreno will spend the money and is not afraid of making this deal. I don't believe the hometown discount is a myth at all. Players have done it. People do it all the time in other careers, even high-paid, highly competitive ones ones like corporate CEOs. Money is something to everyone, and everything to some. I just don't know if Konerko is one of those who it means everything to, today.
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) Not specific to you NSS, but this cracks me up... A year ago fans were screaming, yelling, and calling for Jerry to sell the Sox because they offered Maggs a deal structured similar. Really? Why? I don't see the problem. Mutual options are good for this caliber of player, I think (and if they thought Maggs was that caliber...). It gives both sides an out, and some long-term security. I don't recall that particular brew-ha-ha. Were people upset that we weren't offering Maggs the whole thing, or upset that such a deal was too long?
  21. If he wants stability, and we want options, maybe he'd be willing to do a contract that was solid through 5, then had mutual options in 6 and 7, similar to Thomas' contract.
  22. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 10:42 AM) Is it called the Burke plan? LOL Maybe they can call it "The Gloading"
  23. I put this in some related threads, but I figure it's important enough for people to know that it should get it's own thread. People have been asking on various threads. 27 game split season plans are on sale. I got mine yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon.
  24. QUOTE(gar102 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 09:49 AM) Does anyone have the phone number for the 27 weekend package plan? Thanks This and all the other info on tickets can be found on whitesox.com. Number: 312-674-1000
  25. FYI here as well: 27 Game split season plans are on sale. Got mine yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon. Section 522, Row 1. 27 Game plans get you all ALDS, 1 ALCS and 1 WS.
