Konerko to address media this afternoon
NorthSideSox72 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 12:40 PM) Outside of Chicago, PK really isn't that much of a big deal. And Paul doesn't strike me as a guy looking for all the attention. Pretty sure he was just making a joke about the perversely overdone Rivera stuff that went on this year. -

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 12:21 PM) If it were nothing, then why even call it? What gain is there? Why not wait until the season is over in a few days? Something's definitely up. He's either announcing this is his last year with the Sox, or he's flat out retiring. I have to agree. He takes questions in the lockeroom or dugout almost daily. This was an announced thing, a full day in advance. It is almost assuredly something more than the same stuff we've been hearing. -

Unless they signed him to a cheap extension (which I doubt), I assume he's going to retire at this press conference. Rivera, Helton, Konerko, Kotsay. -
John Sickels (Minor League Ball) has Erik Johnson at 67 in his T75 Prospects list, but also says that is probably too low, and a case could be made for as high as the 30's. Marcus Semien an honorable mention, so he's in the 75-100 range there.

League Top 20's - Baseball America
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 06:55 AM) Considering the Sox are the ones developing him, and not the "many scouts", I'd say it is pretty important how the Sox view him. How the Sox view him is (mostly) irrelevant to these League T20 lists. Similarly, how BA sees him is (mostly) irrelevant to how he will actually develop. -

Favorite non-star White Sox players

I can't believe I forgot Juan Uribe, who somehow I loved and hated at the same time. -
Toby Thomas, a '13 draft pick who had a pretty good year playing mostly shortstop, says he is playing some catcher in the Instructs. Interesting. Could be nothing, could be an actual change.

Hertz announces they are adding Tesla S cars to their fleet for rental. Interesting.

Gary Redus was a guy I really WANTED to like. He had insane speed, I remember seeing him do something I've only seen him and Rickey Henderson do - steal 2nd while the pitcher was holding the ball. He also had some power. But he just couldn't get on base enough - wild, hacky swings. -

Oh and, Pablo Ozuna. His throwing a guy out from LF, the squirrel chase... he was a guy who clearly just loved playing, and had fun doing it. -

Always had a soft spot for G-Load. I think I may be the only person who ever goes to a Sox game with a Gload shirt. Also Ehren Wassermann - hard not to like a guy who was signed from an open tryout, and made it all the way to the majors. Even had a pretty good season in 2007. He was also just fun to watch pitch. Earlier years... I liked Greg Walker in his playing days. Rudy Law, Tim Hulett, Brook Fordyce, Scott Radinsky too. -
Keppinger to have shoulder surgery
NorthSideSox72 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 10:02 AM) They really don't like the guy from the sounds of it. They usually don't wait to dump those guys (ask Nick Swisher). What makes you think they don't like him? I've only seen RV say positive things about his versatility. I've seen no indications they don't like him, though obviously I am sure they didn't like the performance level. -
OF Adam Engel of Great Falls named #12 prospect in Pioneer League. Appy League out tomorrow. Lists are free, scouting reports are subscription-only. Here is a link to the lists as they go up.

So, the only place I have seen that Robin "quote" is the SSS Twitter account. That being the case, I am thinking it was not an actual quote. In fact, the tweet doesn't actually attribute to Robin at all, if you look more closely. Has anyone seen this written anywhere other than SSS? I think they were just joking. -
QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 06:21 AM) I have Sync with MyFord in my new truck and the voice control seems to have a problem recognizing what I say. I know I have to change some names in my address book, Marvilyn sounds too much like line-in. But something as simple as call mom cell doesn't register. I am the pronouncer for our school's spelling bee, and (before drinking) speak fairly clearly. Is the technology still evolving? Ford's (and Microsoft's) Sync system has had problems since day 1, it has been a real issue for them. Its a shame because Ford has done a lot of nice work with their vehicles in the past 5-6 years or so, but thei reliability numbers aren't as good as they could be specifically because of Sync.

White Sox acquire Frank De Los Santos from Rays
NorthSideSox72 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Just stocking up on LOOGY candidates. He's not even a T30 prospect in either system, never really had any stand-out numbers, 25 years old, 7 years in the minors. He did, until this year, induce ground balls at a nice rate. And he has been tougher on lefties than righties. But at best, this is a guy who comes in as part of the dozen or so dudes they look at for maybe a 2014 bullpen role, and after ST, likely they spend 2014 in Charlotte. -
Great Falls Voyagers Only one left now is B-Ham, that one will be up next week.
