Jacob May saying he's headed to AZ as well, so I assume he signed or is about to.
-
Nick Blount says he landed in AZ already, and today is tweeting about getting up early to get it going, so... probably he signed.

White Sox draft thread: Day Three
NorthSideSox72 replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
Just because he seemed like an obscure pick, and had such a cool name, I found a couple links about this Wolfie Tash guy. His name is actually Alexander Wolfgang Tash. Max Preps profile NCSA page, including a personal statement from Wolfie, and a video That second link has tabs, and some stats. Dude hit .438 for Venice HS in 2012, .568 OBP, but no 2013 stats listed. -
White Sox draft thread: Day Three
NorthSideSox72 replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 9, 2013 -> 04:09 AM) Just looked up his stats. Not too hot. But I want him to get good just for the jersey. Throne is actually a guy worth keeping an eye on. Mid-90's FB, hammer curve. Control issues, but that 1-2 punch of pitches could make him effective out of the bullpen. -
QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jun 9, 2013 -> 02:25 PM) Love to have Michalczewski, our top third base prospects are headlined by Buckner, Ravelo, and Grabe, all real borderline top 30 prospects Ravelo hasn't been playing 3B this year, he's been at 1B. And Buckner is a utility guy, he's played only a few games at third. The only "prospect" a third in the entire system is Grabe, and he's on the very fringe, like somewhere 30-40 in the system. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 9, 2013 -> 08:21 PM) Speaking of Ayala can any of our advanced guys update what his deal is? I know he had pretty marginal production in Bristol last year but haven't heard of him since. Any idea of his direction? He's been in AZ Extended ST. My guess is he's back in rookie ball again, possibly repeating Bristol. He's only 18, he's got time. And Barraza is out for the year, so they can put Ayala at whichever affiliate they want to, and still have room for the drafted catchera (Blount, Wimmer) to battle it out at the other rookie affiliate. Typically, the Sox put the college guys at GF, and the younger guys at Bristol.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 04:25 PM) To be honest, I don't care for taking 1st basemen. For all we know Michalczewski could end up at 1st. At the very least, it should be entertaining to watch people brutalize the spelling of his last name.

Can I ask that people please somehow link or credit material you post here from elsewhere? To protect the site, and to make it clear what is your words and what is not.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 03:46 PM) Have either of them seen AAA before? If not, I'll be interested to see what they do. Neither have. This is Wilkins' 2nd year in AA. Black's 1st.
-
Remember the recent talk about the 1B crowd at CHA and BHAM? Sox just traded Seth Loman to the BAL org, no word on return (could just be cash). I'd guess here that Black or Wilkins will go to Charlotte shortly.
-
I like that pick a lot, and as others have said, this was a possibility with the early value picks the team made. Plus 3B is a serious weakness (IMO the biggest one) in the system.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 02:56 PM) Dykstra noted for power. But drafted as a pitcher? Feel like we're missing something here. Looks like he was a HS OF, but pitched for CSSM.

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 12:55 PM) When is the next Sox pick? 4 (123)
-
1. We have a running, locked/pinned thread in FS with the full list of picks, in case anyone needs to catch up. 2. Underslot in 3rd is interesting, if they go under in 4th and/or 5th, then I'd bet something is up. Pending deal with someone seen as not as signable.
-
Round 3 is still too early to draft on need. Though in a relatively weak draft class, by later Top 10 rounds, it might be that time. To me, the most glaring hole in the Sox system (and it has many holes) is 3B. Morel and Grabe are the only ones in the system even worth mentioning as prospects (with Morel not even qualifying), and Grabe is fringe at best.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 08:32 PM) I was surprised by pick. Where did our FS experts have him rated? Just one year of big time success at an obscure Junior College, but I'm sure Sox did the homework..... Here is the FS article about him. There was also a really nice piece on BA with his backstory.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 12:53 PM) So basically the best you can do is offer a player 9.99% over slot? With Bickford's situation, I don't know if he has a certain threshold where he needs to picked to sign or he'll go to college. I know Gray was in a similar situation out of HS. I believe the overslot % rules per pick only go through round 10. Then there is the total pool slotting. Sox got Ayala at 13th round last year, as an overdraft, paid him 5th round money (which wiped out pretty much all their surplus).
-
Manaea has a torn labrum in his hip, announced today. So yeah, he's not getting drafted up high, if at all. Someone may take a later round flyer on him. I assume he'll head back to school.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 08:46 AM) I predict that you didn't notice the thread in PHT when you started this one. Hm. Guess I read the forums in the wrong order today! I think we'll consolidate. Need to talk to the guys.

FutureSox will be covering the draft, on the blog (futuresox.com) and the twitter (@futuresox). Here is a thread for discussion. Any predictions?
