If the rumor posted in FS is true (Shirek to Korea), then the 40-man just went back down by one.

Seems like an odd move. He was added to the 40-man roster, which he'd have to think meant he had a decent shot of seeing the majors this year. Well, good luck Charlie! 40-man goes down by 1 if this is true.

He's arguably better than any utility infield candidate we currently have in the system (I certainly don't want to mess with Carlos Sanchez's growth by using him as a major league utility infielder). If Angel Sanchez emerges as the best candidate for 2013 utility infielder -- great; if someone else does, then he's offered back to the Angels and we either lose him or gain additional organizational depth. There are differences, more range helpful at 2B, better arm helpful at 3B, etc. Orlando Hudson was a pretty severe drop defensively from 2B to 3B.

Could be good, depends on the money. If he is making more than about $4M per (slightly above what Beckham will get in 2013), then I think we are overpaying. Would also have preferred a 2 year deal. I just don't think he is likely to sustain those numbers from last year. Definitely better than Morel, or Hannahan, or pushing Sanchez too fast and at a non-native position.
