Chris Getz to take over player development
NorthSideSox72 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) Never said that. I specifically alluded to Capra. Where is the discussion about him? At FutureSox we've interviewed him, and discussed him over the years. We've also of course covered in depth the player development in general, of which he was in charge. -
This offseason, we are going to experiment with doing a weekly News and Notes type column. As there is plenty going on, but not a lot on any one day, this seems like the best way to consolidate all the news - transactions, offseason league performances, links to related stories, etc. Here is the first edition. Tell us what you think! Anything you think we should change or add? The plan is for these to come out around the beginning of each week.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 09:11 AM) They got someone from the outside that has experience, yes it's only 2 years but what's wrong with giving someone their shot? It's already been said here that people in the game speak highly of him. As I said earlier, he may turn out to be good. By all accounts he's a sharp baseball guy. I just don't like the idea of anyone getting "their shot", as if they were owed something. I'd rather they had gotten someone with deep experience outside the organization, and I don't consider -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 07:41 AM) Because Trump grabs women by the p****. That's all that matters in this election. I mean, I'd like to focus more on policy, but between Clinton's tendency to be a windsock and Trump's inability to maintain a consistent position on anything other than THE WALL, it's hard to do that. Also, for the nation's chief executive, policy generally shouldn't be #1 anyway. It's about leadership skills.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 16, 2016 -> 07:18 PM) I was told only Trump supporters are capable of political violence. No one told you that. Stop it. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 06:18 AM) I think a lot of Trump voters have not been polled and are going to show up Nov 8, that is why I think it will be closer than most think. What makes you think that? What in the methodology of the polls do you think would leave them out? I'm genuinely curious.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 16, 2016 -> 05:42 PM) Marco Paddy and Nick Hostetler continue to be the two outside-the-team FO guys that have been hired. And subsequently, the only two I 100% approve of so far. I think this is key right here. The two areas the org has seen real improvement - the draft (Hostetler) and re-opening the Intl pipeline (Paddy) - were both hires from fully OUTSIDE the org. That's not to say you can't ever promote from within or hire someone you know. But if you've been consistently underperforming for a long while in an area (like player development), you'd think they'd want to get someone from outside and with a lot of experience. -

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 16, 2016 -> 04:01 PM) It doesn't seem overly insider to me. But what exactly are his qualifications? Retired from playing after 2014 season. He then joined the Royals front office as some sort of assistant around the end of 2014. So, at max, he has 2 years' experience in player development. And now he's going to be the Director. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 16, 2016 -> 03:45 PM) I think the first word replace should be "promote", right? They made that guy an assistant coach? I don't see going from Dir of Player Dev to 3rd base coach as a promotion, but maybe that's just me. Pay might be better, but I doubt it. You're going from a position of huge control over the entire farm system, to being a tiny cog on the major league club. Anyway, that aspect isn't terribly relevant. Maybe he just wanted a different role. What's key here is how they went about replacing him. -

I guess maybe Chris will be good at it, but... COME ON! You replace the guy who runs the clearly weakest part of your organization, one which has been a weakness for over a decade, and replace him with ANOTHER INSIDE GUY?!?! I mean really. WTF. -
Season in Review: Winston-Salem Dash

QUOTE (Donaldo @ Oct 14, 2016 -> 08:41 PM) I'm a bit of a stats junkie, so I love how whenever you mention a player, you provide a link to his BR page. However, whenever I click on Spencer Adams' name, why does it take me to the page for the Spencer Adams who played in the 1920s? Thanks. Sorry about that. We use a tool that B/R has called the Linker, where it analyzes our posts and auto-adds links to the BR pages for the player named. 95% of the time that's great. Unfortunately, it has an algorithm that sometimes gets us. In order to determine which name to use, it goes like this: 1. Major league active 2. Major league retired 3. Minor league, by random order I've pointed this out to BR as being kinda dumb. Hopefully they fix it at some point. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 14, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) There was a post on Facebook saying to put "like" if you agree Michelle is the most beautiful classy first Lady ever. I wasn't going to go there and comment either way. In this day and age it might be an insult calling someone beautiful, I'm not sure. I do like her though and I like Barack's personality very much. Just not his work. Stop it.

Arizona Fall League Starts Today
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
Louie Lechich made his AFL debut, threw 1.1 scoreless with 2 K's. More impressive: the K's were Yoan Moncada and Nick Gordon. Lechich converted from outfield to lefty pitcher mid-season. Including his AZL, Kanny and now AFL time, his stats so far in 13 games as a pro pitcher: 16.1 IP, 12 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 18 K. -
And here is our final Season in Review - Kannapolis. Mostly a disappointing year, as was true for nearly all the affiliates record-wise. Though they did play close to .500 ball in the 2nd half and did get some very nice pitching performances.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 13, 2016 -> 08:58 PM) https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix...x-talk-scandal/ So, those lines from Limbaugh are more offensive to me than most of the (also awful) Trump lines being discussed. That is just really disturbing.

QUOTE (brett05 @ Oct 13, 2016 -> 01:41 PM) Really? With the leak of questions by CNN, the DNC doing what they could to make sure Bernie failed. you're right, no rigging at all. DNC can nominate anyone they'd like, so there is really nothing to rig there (though as I've said, I don't like the way they handled it). CNN leaking a question to a debate? Come on, both candidates know damn well what questions will come up for about 90% of them anyway.

QUOTE (brett05 @ Oct 13, 2016 -> 01:11 PM) Another poll out post Debate with Trump leading the election by two points. (Rasmussen) National polls are irrelevant, not to mention that one is an outlier. Let's assume Trump carries all the deep red states: ID, MT, WY, ND, SD, NE (all), KS, OK, TX, AR, LA, MS, AL, GA, SC, TN, KY, WV, IN, AK, and even UT (though that may be in play). That totals 180 EV. In order to get to 270, he needs to win all of these states: WI (10), AZ (11), NV (6), NC (15), PA (20), OH (18), IA (6) and one of FL (29) or CO (9) Where does he stand right now for each of those? WI: RCP average is Clinton +6.7 AZ: Last poll was about a month ago, before the recent implosions, and Trump was only +2 NV: RCP average is Clinton +1.4 NC: RCP average is Clinton +2.6 PA: RCP average is Clinton +8.7 OH: RCP average is basically dead heat IA: Not many recent polls, last one showed it dead heat FL: RCP average is Clinton +2.7 CO: RCP average is Clinton +7.2 And many of the polls in those averages are pre-tape reveal. So the gap has likely widened in most of those. He has to win all but one of those, basically. That's a huge, huge hill to climb, from a guy who just keeps digging. He has no real shot at winning anymore, barring some HUGE reveal about Clinton (and I don't mean a sentence fragment out of context from an email about campaign strategy). Stop citing national polls.
-
QUOTE (brett05 @ Oct 13, 2016 -> 01:25 PM) Are you denying that there has been rigging in this election? First of all, the election has just started, with the main day a few weeks away. But more importantly, what evidence do you have of "rigging in this election"?

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Oct 13, 2016 -> 10:10 AM) Paycheck Yeah, those guys and gals are usually pros at this. It's a job. Albeit, if you're having to front-face for Trump, it's an especially difficult one. But I doubt they care much about Trump one way or the other.

We missed a couple Seasons in Review in September, and are rolling them out this week. Here is the Winston-Salem Dash. Overall disappointing season, but they did have some guys who led the league in a few categories. Some decent pitching performances too, and defensive ones. Kannapolis goes up tomorrow. Also, welcome our newest writer, Mary Peters! She wrote this and the Kanny story coming up. Previously employed by minor league teams, so she's very experienced.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 13, 2016 -> 08:39 AM) So Clark probably ends up being the second lefty out of the pen this season I imagine? Seems like he has earned the opportunity. Hard to say for sure. He was mostly in AA this year, and his brief AAA stint wasn't fantastic. Also he doesn't profile like a LOOGY (in fact I think he should still be starting, but the Sox seem to feel otherwise). I think he's maybe a long shot for that role on Opening Day, but he's got a good chance to see Chicago sometime during the season. -

Danny Hayes (who we were just discussing) hit a home run and added another walk yesterday. Zack Collins had two walks and a K. Trey Michalczewski had an ugly game - 0-4, 3 K. Brian Clark pitched 2 scoreless with 3 K. -

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 02:54 PM) Will all talk about games be in this thread, or should we still go to the minor league subforum? I mean, I could move this, or we could just keep it here. I think I'll keep it here for now, maybe move it if it falls off the first page. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 01:16 PM) This article somehow manages to be condescending to just about everyone, but I think it manages to capture some of the economic struggles/devastation facing the more rural and small-town areas of the country. http://www.cracked.com/blog/6-reasons-trum...ne-talks-about/ For as much as white nationalism and white grievance drives Trump's base, there are real economic anxieties out there that are unfortunately overshadowed by that other 90% of his campaign. I've been saying for a while, I can understand why the coal minor in West Virginia is voting for Trump. I mean, good or bad, the death of coal is far more accelerated under the Dem's target policy than the GOP. And those jobs are their whole world, really. I get it, even if I despise Trump.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 01:00 PM) Thinking about it for a few minutes, and leaving all of the typical hyperbole behind of Nazi, fascist etc behind, Andrew Jackson might be the best comp for a Donald Trump presidency. And yes, I am going to post that on facebook too It's a good parallel in some ways. Only instead of Mexican immigrants, the big target was American Indians (though in the latter case, it was the Americans doing the illegal immigration). Jackson not only deployed the removal policy, he outright encouraged violent ends by civilians for any AmerInd people who didn't move.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 10:30 AM) 1) 20% 2) 0% It should happen. Government needs to be able to do stuff. Agreed all around. The procedural filibuster is a stupid rule.
