QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 10:56 AM) Then you have no basis to have any opinion to agree or disagree. Jack Bauer is f***ing awesome. I'll have to take your word for it. Just seems like the guy doesn't do squat all year and then he has one really busy day and it's a big deal.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 10:24 AM) Who are you kidding. You know you still go to the penny arcade to get a glimpse of the newest moving pictures. I hear they even have talking picture shows now up in the big city movie houses. I don't think it's gonna catch on though.
  3. QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 12:38 AM) I'd never heard that before.. very awesome. The same guy who did that medley also did all of JT's Thick As a Brick, as well as the Beatles' Revolver, which is quite fun.
  4. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 11:53 PM) Actually, after SoxTalk gave me that big contract to keep posting here, I just got lazy. You obviously failed to read the fineprint, it's a highly incentive-laden contract and you're not cutting it.
  5. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 12:15 AM) Yea, they just accept that it will take a year to do a hip replacement. No worries. They just accept that they cannot get the same meds that they could get here. No worries. They accept it because they know no alternative. Sadly, no one else will anymore, either. Kap, I obviously must have missed the big news stories. So please link me to all the massive citizen protests that must have taken place when the rest of western civilization was marching in the streets demanding American-style health care.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 12:22 AM) Kick Jack Bauer out, put Marshall Dillon in. And then sit back as Captain James T. Kirk kicks the sh*t out of Cliff Huxtable and his ugly sweaters. This needs to be a SoxTalk list.

While I don't necessarily agree that Jack Bauer is one of the top 10 teevee characters (I've seen 24 exactly zero times), I think you have come up with a great idea for the next SoxTalk list! Knightni. . . I'm looking in your direction! Seriously though, how can you not have Gilligan in your top 10 teevee list?!?
  8. That beer is worth drinking for the label alone! And the wax seal is a nice touch as well. Love me some Three Floyds, so I bet that Dark Lord is outstanding. Now the Sami. . . one of the best ever, so hard to go wrong. Unless you try to drink more than one in a single session, that is. So what did y'all brew?
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 11:55 PM) well it isn't to appease the democrats. Democrat here, most certainly not appeased.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 11:38 PM) http://www.boingboing.net/2010/03/31/a-fir...-ipad.html#more This review makes me realize how lame the ipad launch was. it was the same as the iphone. They didn't tap into any of the new assets. Read this review, it illuminates you on all the possibilities that even apple can't imagine that the myriad minds tap into when they start creating for this device. I didn't think I would be a consumer for the iPad, but after reading this, I'm definitely in once I get money (soon, please god!) I think there is some calculation behind the recent trend to underhype apple products at launch. Once the products drop, the evolution of the apps that follow and the unforeseen uses are driven by users and third-party developers, and that's where a lot of the bang comes from. Apple provides gorgeous hardware and a stable OS, and plays Nazi-Schoolmarm over retailing apps and warning users of impending eternal damnation if they jailbreak their devices. But like you said, until the user community taps into the device, that's when the fun really begins.
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 11:39 PM) Thanks for your help, Sir. I will see which of those I can get my hands on... The original DG should be no problem. While looking for that, make sure to also pick up the best DG product out there — Ting grapefruit soda. The pink Ting is fine on its own, but for cocktail mixers, the original Ting is it. Sub for club soda and 7-up to make much zippier mixed drinks, or do the authentic Jamaican thing and make a drink I've praised here before — J Wray and Nephew Overproof and Ting (The Jamaican equivalent of the Dark 'N Stormy). JWN Overproof is a wonderfully funky and initially scary rum that accounts for 90% of the domestic rum sales in Jamaica. And with the abundance of very fine rums that country has to offer, that's saying something. As for my Trinidad Mule. . . I went 3:1 ginger beer to rum with a lime slice squeeze. Fairly tasty but the rum flavors particular to the Scarlet Ibis don't all come through, so I'll back the ginger beer off a bit next time 'round.
  12. My go to ginger beer is Barritt's Bermuda Stone Ginger Beer, which is also contract produced in the states and is the traditional ginger beer used in a Dark 'N Stormy. Recently though, the shops that normally can get Barritt's for me have been getting the new Gosling's ginger beer instead. It's not quite as good imo, but it still makes a nice Dark 'N Stormy. In a pinch, I can use the economy Jamaican DG ginger beer, which is a universally available brand and is the one I grew up on. The DG "Old Jamaican" product is nice and spicy and great with a beef patty and coco bread, but makes for unbalanced cocktails that are a bit too hot I think. What I've tried of the Reed's line of ginger beers, but I can't get them with any regularity. Lots of others out there I haven't had a chance to try yet. All this talk about ginger beer is getting me off my duff to make a Rum Mule with some Gosling's ginger beer and new favorite Scarlet Ibis Trinidad rum. Legally, of course, you can't call the drink a Dark 'N Stormy if you're not using Gosling's Black Seal rum, so this one is a rum mule or maybe a Trinidad Mule. Results in a moent. . .

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 11:15 PM) It has a mind of its own i tell you. While I can really appreciate all the niceties and awesomeness of HD tv's, it really doesnt bother me. I'm pretty much the same way. Heck, most of the movies I watched on teevee as a kid in the 80s had a big squiggly line through them and I still watched plenty of those.
  14. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 11:04 PM) You are stupid enough (which I know you're not stupid) to think that he's doing this to appease the GOP? I don't have a clue as to why he's doing it. That we can't drill our way to energy independence is a statement of fact, as is the reality that none of this will help combat $3+ gas this summer, next summer, or any of the next 8 or 9 summers after that. The gamesmanship, the "rope-a-dope" hypothesis set forth earlier. . . none of it justifies or excuses the total backwards thinking of this announced strategy.
  15. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 10:47 PM) I have one star... Not anymore. . . I AM THE KINGMAKER!
  16. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 10:41 PM) I forgot all about the star ratings... I used to be a 5-star. Now I'm a 4. Guess I've been sucking it up recently. SoxTalking is a young man's game. Better retire and go out on a high note while you still can.
  17. Beachbum Berry's Remixed has finally shipped, and I have a copy in hand. Literally hundreds of unearthed lost and classic tiki and tropical drinks, 10 years worth of initial research to compile the original volumes and an additional 10 years to dig deeper and decipher still more of the vintage recipes. Toss in more than 100 brand new recipes, and this book is the best cocktail bargain you'll ever find. Lots of recipes from the original Grog Log and Intoxica volumes have been tweaked as new information has come to light, or as new quality ingredients have hit the shelves to better replicate some of the lost ingredients from the original age of Tiki. It' ok that nobody else is excited about this. I'm stoked enough for everybody. Break out the citrus reamer and let's start mixing!
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) I agree. Because if she likes the Sox a lot, you can't say "I'm meeting the guys to watch the game." You need something that is yours. "I'm off to masturbate now". . . ?
  19. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 06:59 PM) But Democrats wouldn't know anything about that. Sadly, that's obviously not the case. See today's decision to offer up the rape of our coastal environment to appease the opposition as the most recent case in point.
  20. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 07:04 PM) Obama: let's open up some offshore drilling (looks over shoulder...) HEY BOYS, you got those lawsuits to stop this ready?!? ;) ;) - now about that offshore drilling... I wish this was as calculated as all that. I've been pissed of about this announcement all day.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 06:57 PM) Disney owns Universal? No, KyYLE is just drunk.
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) Some of the 8-bit classic rock covers out there are unbelievable. The 8-bit medley of Jethro Tull's Aqualung and Zappa's Peaches & Regalia is truly amazing. I'm not sure if I wasn't quite genius enough or quite dork enough to have come up with these. ETA: Listening through the whole 8-bit DSOTM album, I have to give major props to the fact that the coin sounds in the Money intro are totally lifted from the N64 Mario coin collection sound.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 05:23 PM) At least in the last administration, usually those bad consequences were another, larger contract. You mean the kind that usually involves putting your soul down as a downpayment?
  24. I bet a couple shots of rum will fix this drink right up. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/travel/attr...0,5032414.story
  25. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 11:49 AM) Some guy managed to jump off the Empire State Building; which, if you have ever been up there, is damn near impossible to do. And that's why I chose not to go to Yale like this guy did.
