  1. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:33 PM)
    Thomson had a .744, .743 his past two minor league seasons. That's not earth shattering, but I wouldn't call it poor either. There are quite a few players (for better or worse) who have roughly the same stats in the majors as they did in the minors. If even that applies to Thompson, with his defense, that's awfully damn close to Alex Gordon. The same Alex Gordon that's about to get paid.

    But you wanted specific examples of players who improved offensively from the minors to the majors, and I guess I'm going to be the one who finds them.

    - AJ Pollock's last full minor league season he posted a .780 OPS, last two major league seasons he's been at .851 and .865

    -Michael Brantley posted a .711 OPS his last year in the minors before his debut. His last 4 seasons have been at .750, .728, .890, .851

    -Austin Jackson had an OPS over .750 once in his minor league career, 2nd full year in the majors had an .850 OPS.

    -Torii Hunter never had an OPS over .800 over a full minor league season. He was in the minors for 6 years. He has had 9 seasons of .800+ OPS out of his 13 total seasons in the majors.

    That's just outfielders. Probably not even a comprehensive list of them. I could keep going but I'm tired of it.

    Nice list! Thanks for taking the time to do that. I agree that nobody should be saying Thompson was a poor minor league hitter. +.700 OPS from a CF with great defense, speed, improving plate discipline, and extremely athletic is nothing to scoff about.

  2. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 04:27 PM)
    ok, lets see what happens. if he is not traded.

    now being release is another thing as well.

    Lol dude come one, he's not getting released regardless what happens. Also don't think he will start the season in the minors.

  3. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 12:17 PM)
    People..Avi does NOT have to be traded. He has an option. If you acquire someone like Cargo, send Avi down to AAA to work on plate recognition and bring him up when there is a need. He's still fairly cheap.

    Not saying you don't move him if you get value in return, but so many people think the Sox HAVE to move him, and that just isnt the case. Having options is never a bad thing. If he fizzles out in AAA, non tender him next year.

    No one is saying he has to be traded. You misconstrued what I said in a different thread on this same topic. Those of us (most of us) saying to get rid of him are saying that for a couple reasons; the first being that he isn't a good baseball player at this point and has shown that he hasn't adjusted to anything. Yes I know he is still young, but he has spent parts of 3 seasons now in the bigs. The second being if we trade him now then we might actually get a little something for him, or he can be a secondary piece in a trade for a bigger asset. If we do what you said and send him down to AAA then non tender him, what is the point of that?

  4. QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 08:53 AM)
    Coots field really is something huh? Both Blackmon and Dickerson have a sub .700 OPS in their career away from Coors. I know a lot of people have pointed out CarGo has "Struggled" away from Coors too.

    Seems as though the market, or really the whole MLB, lacks LH power. With that said, I wouldn't hate taking a chance on Cargo if the price isn't too steep.

    I've seen Cargo hit some absolute bombs at Coors Field. Nothing cheap about that and would have been home runs in any stadium and probably any weather conditions. I think the large outfield at Coors helps his BA, OBP, and obviously OPS, but when it comes to HR's, he has legit power.

  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 04:19 PM)
    Didn't mean to take over. It sucks, but when we began being more open about that, we suddenly found how common it is. From in our family to friends. It's a part of life, unfortunately, but it's a taboo and it can feel rough when you think it's this huge rare personal issue.

    Not at all, that's what the thread is for. When we had our miscarriage I really liked the way the Dr. put it. He went through everything that has to happen for a woman to get pregnant and have a child and that it should be viewed as a blessing when everything actually does align that way. Not sure how accurate this number is but he said between 1/3 and 1/5 of all pregnancies end in a miscarriage. Very very common. We had a ton of family and friends tell us they had miscarriages as well throughout the years.

  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 04:00 PM)
    Also been trying for a year with 3 miscarriages, sucks to go through. 2 of em were very early and probably wouldn't have known if not for tracking.

    Also had trouble with the not wanting to tell people until 12 weeks, but the last one we just didn't drink and didn't care if people asked. After having some trouble, its amazing the amount of people who have the same deal. Sucks to lose the big reveal, but it relieved a lot of stress to just be like "yes, we're trying, not taking any chances". Also was a lot easier on the wife just telling her mom and sister and not needing to worry about secrecy and also having someone to talk to if anything went wrong.

    Sorry to hear that bmags. That's actually really smart to just admit that you are trying. Even if/when she does get pregnant we can just keep playing it off like we are just trying then the reveal is still kind of a surprise when you tell them you are like 4 months along already. Most of the family close to us knows we plan on starting to try sometime in the near future anyways.

  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 02:41 PM)
    Oh man I went on a few month long bender when my wife was pregnant, it was definitely a bout of contention. I would stumble in at 4am and I knew I was in deep s*** the next day. Dont be me, be more considerate. But of course when the baby is born your partying is going to slow way down until you find good babysitters. So you still need to be up front that you are getting it out of your system for awhile.

    Dieting is tough, your wife wants to eat and so will you, I gained about 15 pounds from pizza and the winter weather. Try your best to keep up healthy dieting and also working out, it will make both of you happier.

    My wife is a workout machine and health freak for the last 6 months or so. I wish I could get on board. I don't eat terribly, but for some reason just cannot get myself to get in the habit of going to the gym. I want to, the desire just isn't strong enough though!

  8. I saw Jenks posted in the catch all that they are expecting their second child. Congrats by the way! My wife and I decided a couple weeks ago to officially do away with birth control and start trying for our first child. Since many of you have young children of your own and I'm sure there is more than one person on here with a pregnant spouse, I thought I would get a thread going on any tips/advice that you have to those of us getting ready for parenthood.

    Specifically for me and my wife, I know alcohol consumption by me is going to be a touchy subject throughout her pregnancy. I wouldn't consider either of us heavy drinkers, but if we are out in a social setting then there is usually alcohol being consumed. She was pregnant a couple of years ago, but was lost to a miscarriage, but during those 12 weeks she hated if I had a beer when she couldn't. Obviously if I do drink while she is pregnant I will use my head and not rub it in her face, but I was curious is this a common thing for an expectant mother to make a big deal about.

    Another situation that I don't know how we are going to play off is when we are with my family or her family and she or both of us aren't drinking like we normally would. There's no doubt we are going to get asked if she is pregnant, but after already having a miscarriage in the past we prefer to wait until further along in the pregnancy to tell people. Any helpful tips here other than just saying we are taking a break from drinking or on a diet where we can't drink alcohol etc?

  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 09:09 AM)
    Kid #2 can't even roll over yet and it's already such a game changer. Never realized how easy it actually was to just have one kid.

    Congrats Jenks!

  10. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 08:16 PM)
    Avi is not going to be given away. The Sox will happily park him down in AAA or on the bench to start the year if upgrades are made elsewhere in the OF that push him out of the starting lineup. It's always nice to have a guy with his upside around. That doesn't mean they won't move him they can get someone like Lawrie for him.

    I wasn't suggesting that they give him away. I just don't see anyone giving up much for him. From the sounds of it Oakland is looking for pitching in a trade for lawrie so I doubt we would have a package built around Avi for him.

    Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan 18m18 minutes ago

    Don't bet on Sale or Quintana trade: 'Our goal to build around them and celebrate a championship with them on White Sox roster,' Hahn said.

    I assume this could go here. And I agree

    This makes me happy, but at the same time, other than Rodon they are the only players that will lead to a major shake up in a trade. Makes it sound like we will see much of the same as 2015 in 2016. Expect mediocre upgrades at 3rd base and maybe OF if they can get someone to take Avi...

  12. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 05:22 PM)
    And to add to this, my company has had 2 job openings in sales posted on Monster for 2 weeks, Craiglist for a month and 2 local colleges for a month too. Received a whopping grand total of 4 resumes.

    What's your company?

  13. QUOTE (kevo880 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 11:19 AM)
    He worked for the Department of Environmental Health, which means this isn't the building that he worked in. His company or department just rented out a room at care center for people with disabilities for their holiday party, if I'm not mistaken.

    Scratch that. Now they are saying it was indeed the building that he worked in.

  14. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 11:04 AM)
    Given the results, it was a pretty "soft" target. He was already very familiar with it, so he didn't have to do much recon of the building, they managed to go in and out and escape for a while. The fact that he worked there maybe added a little personal touch to it. While it may not fit the popular ISIS narrative, it still will lead to the same result with the public if he is found to have been converted after his trip to the Middle East.

  15. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 02:31 PM)
    Where is it going to set us back to? The problem is that we are already in that spot. Yes it is scary to trade your proven commodities for unknowns which is why you need to get more value in return then you are giving up, but unless this org makes some bold moves the team is going to be stuck in 3-4 place in the division for the rest of the time we have Abreu, Q, and Sale under contract.

    I hear you, and I'm not saying I don't want them to. He is just so valuable that I don't see how we could get a return that is worth it. Everyone knows the league is getting younger and younger so teams are more reluctant to give up a lot of their top prospects for proven veterans. I hope I am proven wrong.
