  1. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 04:46 PM) Ladies and Genetlemen, he did it:
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:56 PM) That doesn't mean they're useless or should be scoffed at. I'll give you that, but everything now is sabermetrics, that's my point. Ok you can use them as reference but sheesh now a days is WAR, WUZI whatever
  3. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:51 PM) Who cares who they were invented by? They tell you a hell of a lot players. They are not an end-all-be-all, but stats in baseball are extremely meaningful. The same stats that don't take in account the little things and the intangibles of a player
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:50 PM) Yeah, you've clearly dismantled the usefulness of those stats. Who cares right? Not like anyone who works in the game does. Not like the team Bill James works for has had any success using them. I don't care, I mean it's ridiculous really, I'm a purist like the old ways, just like a baseball pagan or something LOL
  5. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) At 0.4 WAR, Fangraphs says Loney is a very below-average first baseman. I hate those damn sabermetrics, I mean who cares about war and whatever, bill James never played and he's gotten rich on these stupid stats
  6. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:24 PM) I haven't voted either and I won't. I just think the ASG voting is a silly popularity contest. I'm dumb for expecting fans to be honorable and vote for whom they believe are the best players, and not simply for who plays for their team, but still. It's just a matter of who has the more vote-happy fans. Now, do you have that list of sub .600 OPS' since 1980? Reminds me of 1989 when mike Schmidt retired the first week of may and the ding dongs voted him as a starter, he had to come out of retirement to play in the game
