  1. I doubt the White Sox had much impact on the price. The only serious source reporting anything argued that we were trying to give them Fields, "Geo" and right-handed John Danks and it was almost done and buzzing. Yeah, right. We never had the horses; less so with Carter.
  2. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:20 PM) Detroit getting Miggy Cabrera means KW definately needs to get Chris Burke now. That's a really funny sentence -- "Your rivals have traded for Miguel Cabrera -- who you gonna call? CHRIS BURKE!" Maybe we should bring in WIDGER
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:18 PM) There's a great chance that some of their superstars will show up on that list. Sure sure, but nothing's going to happen to the players.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:09 PM) Because that's so much better and more intimidating than the lineups the Yankees have trotted out the past 5 years. I think it is, and the Tigers have a fine starting rotation.
  5. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:05 PM) I wouldn't put any more, or less, credence in the Detroit bit than this one. I would -- ESPN just said it's a done deal to be officially announced later tonight.
  6. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:00 PM) My point exactly. He has a job at stake. I'm not saying he made it up -- but a plant works fine. And if it's true that the Tigers have Cabrera almost, then that seems like what it is.
  7. The Santana-Angels stuff is bogus, according to Reagins just now; so I doubt the Angels are moving away and going to allow us to trade for Cabrera with Fields, "Geo" and "right-hander" John Danks.
  8. Yeah, that report can't possibly be true. Poorly written and the return sounds like crap. That would baffle me as to why the Marlins would accept that unless everyone else flatly refused.
  9. Okay -- I've got something to tell everyone about my co-host. My co-host is a nice guy. He's interesting. Very strange, though -- loathes the White Sox. Hates the Bears. Hates the Bulls. Hates Reinsdorf. Loves Mariotti. We fight a lot on the air, about Mariotti; when Jeff Pearlman was on our show, he asked Pearlman about five questions about Mariotti starting with, "Do you like columnists like Mariotti?" to "Why don't you?" to "Couldn't you like him more?" to "Isn't Mariotti the best?" to "Does Mariotti get you going?" It was kind of embarrassing. I apologized to Pearlman afterward and he said, "No, it's fine, but when someone is clearly uninterested in a topic, you should probably let it go." I concurred. Well, a few shows later, during a break, my co-host and I were talking about baseball message boards. "How do you know about SoxTalk?" he said, and I said, "Uh, I've been a member since 2006." "I've never seen you there -- who are you?" "Umm, dude. I'm Gregory Pratt. Same as here." He said, "Oh." This was before I'd made this thread. Well, he said, "They banned me because I was too anti-Cubs." I said, Oh, my God -- are you serious? "You're Cuck the Fubs!" and he said, "How'd you guess?" and I said that I used to feel sorry for that guy because he was so crazy, I thought there must be something wrong with him. It's a small world, eh? As I told my co-host, who also writes for our College paper -- "That's pretty lame. Pretending to be a Sox fan who hates the Cubs as a way to express your Sox hatred." Really, I think he hates his teams. He's projecting. We've talked about it on air. Some people here think I'm too negative re: Sox. Right? Well, sure. I have significant constructive criticisms. I hate a lot of the things we do and have done and have failed to do; but I love the Sox. My co-host? He's got this crazy fixation. And when we're on the air, I'm often stuck to defend the White Sox. "No, that's not true. No, that's not true. No! Wrong!" Well, my co-host thinks I should tell everyone who he "used to be". I say he is who I thought he was. It really is such a small world. (He's been hounding me about how I should let everyone know about him; fine, I say, if you insist, but it really is kind of a sad story.) Isn't that nuts?
  10. Last show of the year. Should be fun.
  11. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 11:31 PM) That distinction definitely belongs to the 1906 Cubs, and not the Mariners. And I for one always hear about the 1927 Yankees before the 1906 Cubs. You should be hearing about the 1929 Athletics. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 05:43 PM) If it was capable of happening, who do you think would win in a game between the 1972 Dolphins and the 1985 Bears? Why did Shula say the 1973 team was better than the 1972? Isn't it better to win 18 games instead of 17? By the way -- what does Shula know about the Dolphins of 72/73? He only coached them!
  12. He doesn't hate young players. Know what'd be funny? If he got yelled at by the league for "tampering" AND for betting on baseball. ::cues X-Files music::
  13. Ozzie Guillen hates young players.
  14. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 10:53 PM) Let me add that Shula made an ass out of himself. I only remember one thing he said -- "if the Patriots go undefeated, they deserve the recognition. If any team is better than ours, they deserve it" or something to that effect. What else did he say?
  15. Dear Patriots, No more of this closeness against teams running smokes and mirrors / running on emotion, eh? No more closeness, period. Way to win. Yours in evil, Gregory Pratt
  16. That whole series on fourth down was f***ing intense.
  17. QUOTE(Chet Lemon @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 09:48 PM) I have thought about the team acquiring Hamilton myself. Who do you think the team would have to give up? Broadway perhaps? Definitely not.
  18. That no two timeouts rule is a joke meant to spite Belichick.
  19. I felt very uncomfortable when I saw that the wind was crazy before the game. I still think the Patriots win it.
  20. I'd like Santana to go to the Yankees because that would mean I get to watch Johan Santana and Roy Halladay on Opening Day, 2008, in Yankee Stadium's last beginning.
  21. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 10:16 AM) Isn't that what wakes and funerals are for? What? Is that supposed to be a joke? Edit:[/i] Assuming it's not, which I think is a little more reasonable -- yes, funerals are for paying tribute but you also do it at your work. You wear your pins, your badges, your stickers; you play their favorite song, you honor something dear to them, you play without a safety for the first play just to show that he's gone and won't be replaced in anyone's heart or system anytime soon.
  22. Managing a really good base-stealer.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 11:50 PM) The Yankees, Mets, and Red Sox are really going to make the next few weeks even more annoying than they usually do. Do I detect jealousy from you? 'Cause I am a little jealous -- I wish our system had something to offer, and big bucks to spend (from free agents to draft picks) and whenever big players like Santana, Bedard, Cabrera become available...we can't get them? It hurts.
  24. Dude, this really happened. I wrote an article about it: virtual reality is still reality. I guess that's not what I was talking about, though. MVP 2005 ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
