  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 10:07 AM) Even though he was definitely a catalyst, it's comical how overrated he is by Cubs fans. A few Sox fans said he "made that team go" and I told them to give me a f***ing break. (On the paper, that is.)
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 10:01 AM) I wonder if Ryan Theriot will get any votes? Oh, s***. The sportswriters on my College newspaper picked him as MVP of the Cubs last season. They haven't lived it down with me yet. f***ing Ryan Theriot.
  3. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 05:51 PM) Better team: 85 Bears Better season: 85 Bears Better remembered: 72 Dolphins What do you mean by better remembered? Everybody remembers the 85 Bears for the Shuffle and dominance.
  4. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:32 AM) Cause you pretty much take a shot at Gavin Floyd in every post. You like to get a rise out of people by doing so cause you want the attention. It was a joke about the uncertainty of the rotation and about Floyd. Besides, I don't take a shot at Floyd with every post. And anyway, I'm not the only person here who has a player he criticizes. I'm even fairly mild about my criticisms of Floyd! All I say is he isn't very good. And now we're going to have two huge question marks in our rotation, a guy whose career shows significant inconsistencies, a 70 year old and Mark Buehrle. It's scary.
  5. Maybe we'll sign a Clement, or a Colon, or, hell, a Garcia with the extra money? To come in mid-season or next? Who knows what's up.
  6. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:27 AM) There is a difference between winning a deal and f***ing someone over. Be in business for 25 years and you will see it for yourself. There is this animal called a win-win. It's pretty crazy when you and I agree on something.
  7. QUOTE(WCSox @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:25 AM) So you agree that Gord Ash was under-handed for not disclosing Wells' cortisone injections before trading him to the Sox? Kenny could win a World Series with the Sox this year and you'd still want him fired. You really need to change up your shtick. Yeah, Ash was underhanded if he didn't disclose that. And yes, I think I'd still want KW fired if we won the World Series this year, but it would depend on what happened, why and when and how. What moves did we make? What moves did others make? Were we a Cardinals World Series winner or a "real" world Series winner looking to contend again? I'll tell you what -- if KW wins another World Series this year, I'll never say another critical word.
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) Thanks for the laugh. I'm just saying -- the League itself doesn't want people trading what they know are used-goods and GMs don't, either. I don't see why that's funny. ... Joe Cowley's going to be happy tonight. Now that Garland's gone. ... Does this move make us better at all?
  9. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:23 AM) Why even make this post? What is the point? Start f***ing contributing. Umm, it's clearly a joke. Much like your "Schuerholz" crack.
  10. QUOTE(WCSox @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:21 AM) That's what physicals are for. Pat Gillick dropped the ball. And Gord Ash conveniently neglected to mention that David Wells was getting cortisone injections in his shoulder prior to almost every start in 2000. Yeah, just like you slam him at every opportunity like an angry 10-year-old. I'm not making excuses for Kenny. I'm just trying to find some possible reason why he'd do this. From what I've seen so far, I can't see why Kenny (or any other GM) would deal a good middle-of-the-rotation pitcher for a one-year stopgap at SS. I remember talk of "stiffness" in Jon's shoulder late this past summer, and am speculating that perhaps that has something to do with it. Otherwise, I may join the Run Kenny Out of Town contingent here. Well, I've long believed and stated that something's got to be wrong with Garland, what with his "knot' nonsense but if KW did this trade just because he thinks he's hurt, he deserves to be fired and there'd be serious consequences from the League, if they could prove it. It's just not something you do, however much everyone here wants to justify it as "they should watch out for themselves!" No. That's not what MLB says and that's not what the GMs themselves believe. Sorry to tell you, but most GMs don't like to deal with people who are just out to f*** everyone or DO f*** people with injured players.
  11. So, is Contreras starting on opening day or is Floyd?
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:16 AM) Or we could figure that GMs with medical staffs and state of the art technology could check it out. If you buy a used car, you have a mechanic check it out. Caveat Emptor I'll bet KW really wished that someone would've proofread his trade a few years ago for that one kid, that's for sure.
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:16 AM) Its business, ethics really dont play a huge part, you are supposed to not be retarded and do your homework. It still didnt stop Jon from being a horse though, and now our pen better be extremely good, because they are going to get alot of work this year with unproven guys in the rotation. That's just not true. Any GM will tell you if you ask them that they do their homework, yes, but that you talk about a player's health and let the GM know about anything they're supposed to know. (Like, say, a player has a drug problem? And you don't tell the other team but nobody really knew about it? well, that's a big no-no and happened a few times in the 80s, especially.) I'm just happy we've got THE ANSWER TO OUR PROBS
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:10 AM) Or the Angels could just give Garland a physical unlike the completely inept Phillies front office. Or if we KNOW he's hurt -- which I doubt, at this moment -- we don't trade him unless we've explicitly told them, "We're concerned about his arm" because that's the way it's supposed to work amongst GMs. Anyway, I don't want to spend the morning arguing about GM ethics. CABRERAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
  15. QUOTE(WCSox @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) Something has to be wrong with Jon's shoulder. This just makes zero sense otherwise. If Kenny deals one more pitcher who gets injured shortly thereafter, he'll deserve to be fired. It's a violation of a cardinal rule among GMs that you're open about things like that and it's a bulls*** thing to do. Besides, you seem to think KW is beyond simply making terrible stupid ridiculous laughable decisions.
  16. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.
  17. QUOTE(StatManDu @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 10:59 AM) The Sox just acquired Royce Clayton again. ... Do you think KW thought he was getting Miguel Cabrera? LOL It's entirely possible. Wouldn't be a first!
  18. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 10:59 AM) You gotta be fistf***ing me. Still at the doctor's?
  19. QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 10:59 AM) I don't know, man, I'm starting to feel like 2005 (and the 2005 off-season) were the exception rather than the rule. I'll wait and see if there's some "Part II" to this trade, perhaps involving Uribe, but at face value this trade is smelly. Umm, I've always felt that way.
  20. For what it's worth, I'm having a little trouble believing this but not really. I THINK THE WHITE SOX DESERVE THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT 2005 KW HAS A PLAN IT ISN'T EVEN THANKSGIVING THINK OF THE CHILDREN AT LEAST HE DIDN'T TRADE GARLAND FOR "ORLANDO HERNANDEZ" WHICH I SWEAR TO GOD I THOUGHT WAS WHAT HAD HAPPENED WHEN I SAW TRADED FOR "ORLANDO ...."
  21. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 10:51 AM) if by awesome you mean needs to be fired, then you are correct! Of course I mean he should be fired but I think the whole organization should be fired. But hey... URIBE SUPER SUB
  22. Everybody knows that the good guys lost Beaten by the Queen of Hearts every time. Don't you draw the Queen of Diamonds, she'll break you every time. You know you know the Deuce is still wild. Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night. And I've got such a long way to go, to make it to the border of Mexico Like a bat out of hell I'll be gone when the morning comes Come spend the night inside my sugar walls And the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls. I've built walls, a fortress deep and mighty. Yet I swear I see my reflection some place so high above this wall. Way up in the air in my beautiful balloon Gonna get high as a kite by then She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie, cocaine Sittin' downtown in a railway station, one toke over the line There's a guy with a ticket to Mexico. No, he couldn't look much stranger. I don't want a pickle. I just want to ride my motor-sicle. I like smoke and lightning...Heavy metal thunder. Fat-Bottom Girls you make the rockin' world go 'round. Get on 'yer bikes and ride! Ride, take a free ride, take my place. Have my seat, its for free. Oh, anything I want he gives it to me. Anything I want he gives it, but not for free – It's hateful! You got to get it up, get it up. You got to get it up, get it up, yeah you got to give it to me. Rock me baby, rock me baby all night long. Rock me gently, rock me slowly, take it easy, don't you know that I have never been loved like this before. So do that to me one more time. Once is never enough. One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do. I'm a soldier. A lonely soldier, away from home. A soldier so ill looks at the sky pilot, remembers the words "Thou shalt not kill". Said he's dangerous, armed and extremely dangerous. You're a notch and I'm a legend. Twenty dollars will make you die. I love the dead before they're cold. Dead babies can't take care of themselves. Helpless, helpless, helpless. Baby can you hear me now? Don't say words you're gonna regret. Its only words, and words are all I have, to take your heart away. See the rapper's problem usually stems from being tone deaf. Pack the house and try to sing, there won't be no one left. You'll find him anywhere. On a bus, in a bar, in a grocery store. It's just that I am not in the market for a boy who wants to love only me. My Mama told me you better shop around. Big-legged woman, come and hold my hand. Lawdy mama, no need to worry. I will carry you home in my teeth
  23. Yeah, that was my only concern but I'm sure the Braves will be fine. It's not like they're desperate for talent, like our system.
