Bill Bavasi, being Bill Bavasi, has a great new idea: bring back Sandy Koufax (I know he was kidding. I just thought it was pretty funny.)

Would Florida be interested in Floyd?

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 09:53 PM) To put things into perspective, Cabrera is 4 months younger than Josh Fields. I read today somewhere the asking price isn't nearly as huge as you would think. They want a young major league starter, a young major league position player and a prospect, a good prospect not necessarily the organizations best. I'm sure the price could rise if there's a bidding war, but acquiring him would make me very happy. Yeah. I want him.

Oh my, Schilling? That's my first reaction, and while I love me some Schilling, I have always said he should man up and name some names if he really is opposed. Maybe it'll be Frank Thomas? Doubt it. We'll have to wait and see but that's very, very interesting.

PA is Buck Showalter and I'm Ozzie Guillen. He's a cellar-dweller, even in the election, and he can't stand that a Latino! beat him. /green

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 23, 2007 -> 12:25 PM) I think it's funny that spazbot forgets that that portion of the election was to determine the top two candidates and NOT the president. if non-establishment candidate = dorkass... i couldn't agree more. If this doesn't qualify as a personal attack, I don't know what does. And if it doesn't qualify as a personal attack, please let me know because I'd like to let the dogs out on this YouTube troll.

Congrats on the inclusion. -- Go Schilling.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 23, 2007 -> 12:20 PM) Just out of curiosity, what makes you so confident in that interpretation? Because honestly, it's one that I've only rarely, if ever, heard. By far the more common interpretation that I've come across in my studies is that Chamberlain was so willing to back down in no small part because Britain in 1938 was simply in no condition for war with Germany, and allowed the hope that he could in fact negotiate with Hitler to blend with that problem to wind up with the results we saw. You've rarely heard that? It's very well-known that the British -- and the world -- considered Stalin the greater of two evils, and hoped to pit Hitler against Stalin. Yes, the British were in no shape for war and the Americans were isolationists so they had less support, but it was integral for Chamberlain to turn Germany against the Soviets. Here, on page five, are five reasons: http://www.ndu.edu/library/n1/96-E-09.pdf The fifth is Russia, which it puts fifth but says "importantly" and it makes me wonder why it didn't put it fifth. I'm sure there are plenty of other places to find it but that was the first. Besides Wikipedia, which should never be genuinely cited.

Neville Chamberlain was an appeaser and a coward, to be sure, but he wasn't just an active coward: he was a moral coward. His goal in appeasing Hitler was greater than the appeasement of Hitler: Chamberlain wanted to appease Hitler so that Hitler would turn his attention to Stalin and destroy the USSR. He was a twisted little sissy.

2:22 So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake. 2:23 And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. 2:24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 02:44 PM) Agreed, it is suspicious. Two of the prescriptions were written by a dentist, there aren't (reportedly) records of any tests for the hormone deficiency, and, although Byrd claimed that he was open about it, MLB and the Indians have said they didn't know. Link to a followup SF Chron story. Did Byrd have a history of muscle injuries? Past HGH use is tough to go after, though -- baseball didn't ban it until a week after his last purchase, iirc. Often dentists find out about tumors and pitu. conditions because of the location. (But some are throwing a fit saying dentists don't often prescribe it.) I don't know the truth. But Byrd looks alright to me.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 02:07 PM) You can't stand it, can you? I never would've guessed, signing up for SoxTalk, that this was an "old conservatives circle jerk" forum. (I can take the heat. But you, of course, know how I feel about your debate tactics and those of most others in this forum, which can be frustrating. I understand fully why people leave the Filibuster.)

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) Does anyone else find it absolutely historic that Tom Brady already has 27 touchdowns through 7 weeks? He's one away from breaking his own personal mark of 28, and is currently on pace for 61 touchdowns and barely 5 INTs. That's just freaking nuts. I think 50 touchdowns is definitely achievable, and almost likely. Their insane amount of talent mixed with a relatively weak schedule is going to lead the the best offensive season ever for QB... and Moss might score 20+ touchdowns! I hope Brady does it. I dislike Manning and I don't think there's anyone I like more in football than Brady. Except MAYBE Belichick.

BACK TO THE TOPIC ALEX RODRIGUEZ, BORAS, MONEY AND THE WHITE SOX ... From Baseball-Fever Et tu, A-Rah-rah-rah?

WRONG. It's not popular knowledge. I of the great interest in steroids + baseball didn't even know it until last night/this morning. It is Pud Galvin, who used to inject monkey testosterone before pitching. He was also baseball's first three hundred game winner.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 01:17 PM) Because there is a ton of scientific evidence to back his message. And once again, what exactly are the negatives for instituting the change that he and many others are seeking? You're wasting your time Sqwert. That's all I have to say and I think you'll know what I mean.

It's been a good Monday. For the first time in awhile I've got no big assignments looming, finished an exam (aced it), am now good and free.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 01:03 PM) Not so much the throws, but the play calling and the protection schemes. Griese was calling out all the protections pre-snap against the Eagles zone-blitz package. Even with them falling back into coverage, he had to make some decisions that I do not believe Rex could have made. well Rex has two big problems: 1. He's dumb. 2. He's small. Dude's got a cannon but he can't see over his linemen, is immobile and makes terrible decisions all the time.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) Nothing wrong with it at all. Just trying to spread a little info. PS: So? It'd be probably better suited for a PM. I'd hate to hijack a thread about the environment. But I guess Branch Rickey is somewhat related to the environment...at least in name!

QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 01:00 PM) The quote in you sig that is attributed to Schuerholz was originally uttered by Branch Rickey. Maybe not word for word, but it came from him first. He says it in his book without attribution; I will likely keep it as such, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. PS: that has nothing to do with the environment.
