  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 11:02 AM) I'll throw the question out to anyone; do you believe baseball is corrupt enough to cover up a positive steroid test of one of the best players (read:money makers, which tends to exclude Palmeiro) in the league? Yes. Didn't they promise them the first time around that they wouldn't reveal positive tests? But yes, I definitely believe that the game of baseball would go and has gone to steps to ensure that people either don't test positive or it doesn't come out.
  2. Really, what would it take for us to get Cabrera? Everyone else to balk and Florida to say, "We're trading him, that's it"? "No, you can't have Billingsley and Kershaw and you certainly can't have both." Yankees: same. Red Sox: same. Angels: same. (I think the Angels should, instead of spending on 'A-Rah') But let's say all these teams balk. Then what? Then Florida has to say, "Okay, we'll take your Fields and your Gio and your DLS and your Broadway" right? And I don't see that happening.
  3. I'm still not convinced that Selig is truly opposed to steroids, or that the Union is, or that the players are. Fact is it's more money, a better (individual) game, more fans/attendance. And until I'm convinced that Selig and the Union and the players truly care -- let alone the fans -- I don't hold high hopes that the Mitchell Report will be anything serious. We'll see. Hell, I've even got a problem with the Director of the Red Sox.
  4. He also, per that article, saved Wrigley Field from DOOM.
  5. Here's a controversial statement: cheating is good. Getting caught is bad. Getting caught because your whiny former assistant, well, whined is embarrassing and bad but not necessarily a knock on you. That's what every Coach in the NFL understands: that's why the Ravens embarrassed Mangini the very next week.
  6. LOL, I mean they have a lot of young pitchers they could package.
  7. I think there are definitely nuances. That's why Bonds doesn't get a, "I HATE HIM!" from me. But yeah, if Belichick's been doing this forever, I'm sure he's not alone. As for why he got a first rounder taken away -- he did something against the rules that the Jets outed him for but that no one else would've bothered with if not for Mangini's whining.
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 04:25 PM) If we don't stop agreeing the entire universe will implode It would be a top two extinction in history.
  9. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 01:49 PM) I'd love to hear with players call each other, those are probably the best names. When Matsuzaka singled against Colorado, The Choice yelled, "He Ichiro!" and I thought it was funny as hell.
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 04:01 PM) Girls who take 3 hours to get ready and then just look like they applied 3 inches of makeup. Girls who need to put on makeup to go out to breakfast or a sporting event. People who use the word like every other word in a conversation. Guys who own tiny little dogs. I concur.
  11. I don't like it when people mock other people's relationships as if they've always dated supermodels and class acts. Not directly at you, SSI, but prompted by your comment. I mean, so what if she looks like a dragon? You aren't dating her.
  12. I'd love Adam Everett if we had a great lineup otherwise but we don't.
  13. the Marlins won't bite on Gio/Broadway. I don't think anyone will. And Crede has little trade value -- they definitely won't want an injured 3rd baseman with one year left and the Agent From Hell.
  14. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 01:57 PM) Mike North said on the air recently that he would challenge a Stacey Dales on the Chicago Sky to 1 on 1 and he gauranteed he would beat her. Im waiting for her to take him up on it Oh I hope so.
  15. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 11:49 AM) Im surprised to see Mr. Pratt in here defending Belichick. How is playing more games comparable to blatantly cheating? Its like what Bonds did, now if your on the side of the fence like me who does not care about Bonds cheating, then I can understand you wouldnt care about Belichick. But how can some people sit on their soap box (not pointing out anyone particular) and say Bonds is the worse thing in the world, and then say what Belichick did is okay, or not as bad. They both cheated, cheating is cheating. You don't know my stance on Bonds. I'm not even sure what my stance on Bonds is! But basically, these are the things I believe about Barry: I don't want him near my teams because he's a circus and a divider He's good He is a cheater It is a shame that he juiced because of envy/anger (Book of Shadows/Love Me Hate Me) I don't think he's a monster for cheating -- I do take issue with what his girlfriend says he'd do to her Baseball is full of cheaters, from Pud Galvin to Gaylord Perry to Bonds to even guys like Mark Buehrle who have admitted to putting just a wee bit of pinetar on the ball "sometimes" I have yet to determine just how bad Bonds' steroids use is to me, or how much contempt I have for juicers. But as I've spoken to journalists, a few scouts, people from this forum, friends, etc. etc. I realize that there's a lot to steroids in baseball and I begin to get angry whenever I hear people talk about how it was just Bonds or Sosa or McGwire -- it isn't. In other words: I don't know yet how I feel for sure. I still don't like Bonds, but my position is growing and evolving. As for the "asterisk" -- I was making a contextual crack. The original asterisk corresponded to season-length -- maybe, if NE goes undefeated, we should make a mark that says their "undefeated season" isn't equal to NE's because NE had a longer schedule. And cheating? Please. Belichick did nothing wrong and that's why the Ravens embarrassed Mangini. The fact that this is even an issue means that Mangini won. Until NE wins the Super Bowl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 10:49 PM) Ditto. I love me some Shana Hiatt -- I think she's the best combination of 'cute' and 'sexy' around. I'd like to take her out to dinner and call her several times afterwords. Also, who was the sportscaster who worked in LA for Fox Sports Net that had a fling with Derek Lowe? Anyone? Carolyn Hughes.
  17. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 12:26 PM) If at all possible, I'm going to try and fit in all three of these things for the Hawks game we attend. Throw in Sabermetrics.
  18. People who chew ice. People who eat on the phone. People who grunt and groan like they're orgasming while they eat a good meal (what a terrible date that is!)
  19. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 11:36 AM) Considering hes 32, gross. That lineup will strike out a bazillion times. And pop the first pitch up a bazillion times, too.
  20. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 11:30 AM) And I agree with you. im still wondering where we are going to find a lead off hitter? Stewart? What the hell are we going to do. With this happening our lineup sits at this: 1. Richar 2B 2. Fields LF 3. Thome Dh 4. Konerko 1B 5. Dye RF 6. Hunter CF 7. Crede 3B 8 AJP C 9 Uribe SS Sex. PS: I just don't like the years for Hunter, either.
  21. He wants to bring up the asterisk and that's all well, but if he wants to do that he should realize the context: Maris/Mantle played in more games than Ruth, therefore: "Break record, asterisk, because there's more games now." Maybe there should be an asterisk placed on the Dolphins, if the Patriots go undefeated, to say that they played less games and so it's less impressive? What bothers me most about it, though, is that Mangini cried about "Spygate" because he wanted to embarrass Belichick, not because he had a serious complaint. Leak it and let people call them cheaters as if no one else does it. Of course, it backfired and now NE has its old "no respect!" mantra.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 10:43 AM) Levine reported today the Sox will make the bigger offer in franchise history, likely something around 5 years, 80 million for Hunter as soon as they're allowed to talk contracts. He's far and away the #1 guy on their list, and he thinks Hunter will be a Sox outfielder next year. I will wait and see what we do but I really don't like that.
  23. We couldn't even buy him out and give him less money? Why? Because so many teams are going to knock down his door and woo him with cash, right? I'll bet the market is dying for a guy like Juan Uribe!
