Without harping on Grossman too much -- does anyone here think he could handle a drive like that without anyone calling plays? He'd probably throw it downfield immediately and watch it returned for a touchdown.

"The planet has a fever. If your baby has a fever, you go to the doctor. If the doctor says you need to intervene here, you don’t say, well I read a science fiction novel that tells me it’s not a problem. If the crib’s on fire, you don’t speculate that the baby is flame-retardant. You take action. The planet has a fever."

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 12:45 PM) Personally I don't understand why you are so sensative about it. You got the attention you wanted... move on. :lolhitting You're telling ME to move on about it when someone else brought it up? Of course.

Those aren't in the context of a political campaign. Edit: and there is nothing unethical about asking people who otherwise wouldn't vote or whose allegiances you don't know to vote, especially not in politics. It wasn't like I was asking people to buy my hot sauce. And I can't believe we're STILL having the discussion about whether or not I did something wrong. Even last December, my opponents said I didn't do anything wrong in PMing for votes. Geez.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 12:14 PM) *PM* VOTE FOR ME! Oh wait, I got that one in error. what part of, "I don't deny distributing campaign literature but I won because of the disillusioned youth deciding to vote for me?" don't you understand?
-
Oh, and I'm not denying that I distributed campaign literature and sought to "Get Out The Vote!" and mobilize SoxTalk's large percentage of non-voters, but that is NOT why I won. I won because people chose to vote for me and hoisted me onto their triumphant shoulders.

What does it say about the other candidates that a plurality of The People would rather vote for the man who refuses to address the issues over those who are "debating" in full? Clearly people thought that by not speaking, I was saying enough to offset what the others were saying. Maybe the lesson is that these candidates should keep their mouths shut and smile? That election was, and is, a lot of fun.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 11:58 AM) There is some value in his candidacy. The other night he was discussing campaign laws and how he can't use colbertnation.com he has to use a different one. Btw checkout colbert08.com If it sparks some interest, and a few more people vote, that's a good thing. It is almost exactly like when soxtalk attempted a serious election, with a series of debates and hopefully thought evoking speeches. Instead, someone decided to fore go that process and resort to spamming for votes. I didn't win because I "spammed for votes" (I don't consider it spam: attempts to de-alienate SoxTalk's voters aren't "spam"). I won because I was the only non-establishment candidate. I won because I promised youth, vigor and change. I won because I was right for SoxTalk. That is why I am the President, like every President -- I won on my own merits!

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) There's no reason to think the Red Sox would've stopped hitting if the Indians scored even 2 or 3 more. It's a big stretch to extrapolate a "blowout in the other direction" from one or two plays. I don't think so, but I definitely think the Indians had the wind knocked out of them in those situations and it dramatically changed the face of the game.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 19, 2007 -> 12:14 AM) Yeah and it's clearly never been done before. Didn't they put a pig on the ballot in California in 1968? Who cares? I'm just saying, Colbert is minimizing the political process and the dialogue just as much as those he criticizes.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) Sorry, man, a Rockies/Red Sox Series does nothing for me. Honestly, I'd rather watch a Florida Panthers/Columbus Blue Jackets game than a Red Sox/Rockies game. Hockey has always been my favorite sport by a wide margin.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 11:16 AM) I was going for "myth busters go after BIG ONE" .... get it...they're busting the myth about Jim having a big one...in his pants. you know, it's just not as funny when you have to explain it. No no, I got it -- I'm just expressing continued disappointment when you don't use YouTube.

As I learned last night/today I will share with you First, a Q: Who, would you guess, was baseball's first "steroid"/"Performance Enhancing Drug" user?

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 10:42 AM) Their 2 aces didnt show up. It was more pucker factor than exhaustion. When Carmona is pumping in above 96 on his pitches, thats not exhaustion. He was nibbling, getting into hitters counts, and then he got rocked. His undoing was 2 infield singles, then he puckered up and got rocked. Oh and hopefully the white sox were watching, CC gets the sox free swingers to offer at some of those sliders in the dirt. The redsox made CC throw strikes. They turned him into a one pitch pitcher. Hafner was out of sorts all season long. Skinner screwed up. CC was tired, not Carmona. I definitely think all those innings had SOME effect. And no, the White Sox weren't watching. They were golfing.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 10:40 AM) Why don't you like hearing that? I usually don't know my head from my butt with these predictions, so take it for what it is: some idiot on a message board making a prediction. LOL I didn't mean specifically from you. I just mean, everywhere. (I don't think you're an idiot.)

QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 02:43 AM) I can now focus exclusively on hockey. This year's series features one team I don't care much about (Colorado) against a team I actively dislike (ESPN Sawkz). If I catch some of it by accident, that's fine, but I won't seek it out. I used to love you.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 09:03 AM) Why are they after FlasoxxJim's pants? I saw you'd posted in here and I said, "I'm sure he's posting a clip from Joe's Apartment in here." You disappoint me every single day.
-
QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 10:36 AM) Well, I'm pulling for the Rockies now, but I have a feeling we are about to see a pure slaughterfest. I don't like hearing that. Rockies are a damn good team.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 10:29 AM) Wedge isn't to blame for this, and Skinner made a mistake, but that's one run in a blowout. Hafner, Sabathia, Carmona. When you have 2 legit CY candidates and they EACH put up a double-digit era, there's not much a manager can do. Skinner sends the guy around and things are very different; Lofton's called safe at second and it's very different. It might be a blowout in the other direction. No excuses -- Sabathia and Carmona sucked. Hafner had a crummy season and postseason. I wonder how much it has to do with the forty plus innings he had on Beckett this season (exhaustion) and Carmona? I DO question his mental fortitude, somewhat, considering he sucked at closing and fell apart under pressure in Fenway, but he DID beat the Bank.

Soxtalk huge yahoo search jump??

That's quite the accomplishment. When we play the next Softball game, we'll show why these rankings are off. -
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 21, 2007 -> 10:37 PM) Steroids, necessitated by the human condition, properly administered and prescribed, can save lives. Steroids, misused, destroy the human body and homerun records.

I can't wait to see Beckett versus Francis. I hope Francis beats them down.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 21, 2007 -> 10:50 PM) I don't think that changes the bottom of the 7th. Everything changes with every incident.

Hafner's had a useless season.
