  1. QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 07:07 AM) This time when you have a 5+ run lead Jon, don't blow it. Lets hope the offense continues hitting well agreed
  2. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Apr 12, 2006 -> 02:48 PM) I'd rather have Maroth, he's mediocre. Verlander might be young, but he's got electric stuff. agreed i've been tracking this kid for a while he has flithy stuff. In his start against tex he went 7IP, 2H, 2BB, 7SO. I've got him in my MLB 30mil fantasy challenge and a steal too 500k for both him and anderson i also have thome he was only 5.6mil as my CI what a deal.
  3. QUOTE(HeGone33 @ Apr 12, 2006 -> 01:09 AM) The Sox gave me a birthday present that will last forever this past October, but they will also give me a win today!! that makes two of us on oct 7th Garcia took the bump for my 20th birthday and the sox swept the bosox, prolly the best birthday present ever. Happy Birthday and
  4. i just called for that in the chat Go Sox!
  5. QUOTE(HeGone33 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 06:19 PM) So we are 12-5 in our last 17 games!!! I'll take that any day of the week. After reading through all the negativity here today, everyone needs to take a step back and ENJOY the season. KW knows more than anyone on this site about putting together a world series team, so quit doubting him. Boone straight up beat out the competition in ST so yes he deserves a shot up here in the big leagues. Hafner has since hit three more home runs, so let me guess all those pitchers should be sent down as well. Things will not go the Sox way 100% of the time, that is just plain common sense. This list could really go on and on, but just make sure you mark me down as the guy who will enjoy this season and not be so damn worried all the time. I mean hell, the season is 3% over, so is it really time to start to panic????? Finish up strong in KC and on to Detroit to bring them back to life! Agreed. I think this site needs optimistic, pessimistic, and pragmatism sections. Seriously though sometimes i come here and im just like f*** relax were going to have some losing streaks it just sucks its come this early.
  6. Crazy Little Thing Called GLOVE!!!!
  7. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) Fyi, walks don't count as at bats. way to make me look like a Dbag lol, i'll roll with it though
  8. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) This is alittle off topic: Has Thome even K'd yet? Didn't see the game today and I see Vazquez did well. nope or at least thats what whitesox.com is saying i think i remember him SO once though, by the way Hafners at 2
  9. QUOTE(rcm4833 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 07:35 PM) I'm sorry but I would much rather have their lineup than ours. I'd rather have Hafner than Thome. Way to pick up on the flavor of the week literally. Jim Thome is a beast period, hes had 15AB's and 7 (half of them) have been BB, also hes hitting .333, the man behind Thome has been just a hair late on his swing and that will come around/appears to becoming around in his last two games. Soon the Sox will be clicking on all 4 cylinders and i would'nt be supprised if the tigers/brewers slow down much like the perviously stated '05 orioles and nats. Now im not saying Hafner is'nt good because he is but over his past two seasons he's avg just 30.5 HR and 72.5BB now granted his #'s have gone up every year and hes only 29 but lets compare that to thome's 03 and 04 seeing how he was hurt in 05. Jim Thome 44.5 HR and 107.5 BB and thome had more AB's, personally id rather have Jim Thome, once PK's swing comes around and stops GIDP well be golden. Book It!
  10. people soon forget about the '05 Orioles & Nationals, kids its a Marathon not a race were 2% done with the season, step back from the ledge it'll be ok.

Mvp2005 is still awesome, how do you go about updating your rosters? as for MLB2k6 its pretty indepth the pitching system they have is pretty awesome, and the swing stick takes a little time to get used to but you can basicly hit to all fields, id advise everyone to at least rent it to see if they like it.

i picked it up on the 4th and haven't really had time to play it. What does everyone think of the swing stick? Does anyone have a list of the songs for all the players on the sox so that i might make my 2k6 a little bit more real? Even though thats kinda hard considering the work they put into this game. My only complaint is no drag bunting
  13. QUOTE(Wedge @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 12:43 AM) I forgot, was it you or Rowand44 that was critiquing me for thinking Thorton could be a solid pick-up for us? Anyway I can become the official chairperson of the Thorton fan-club? Sign me up, Matt Thorton looked solid, heres to hoping he has turned a corner and makes a nice fit in the bullpen.
  14. QUOTE(beck72 @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 11:06 AM) Welcome to Soxtalk! I think it's a lot easier to find and groom bullpen guys than it is starting pitchers. The difference between having a rookie or young pitcher get 1-3 outs compared to 18 or 21 is like night and day. The sox overall are in pretty good shape pitching wise, esp. with 6 healthy, high quality SP's. I certainly expect BMac to do well in the bullpen. He throws strikes with 3 pitches. Not many relievers can do that. Hell, not a lot of starters can do that. He is the most likely to take over for Hermanson. Not that he could step in as closer. But he'll be very valuable to the Sox if he stays healthy. Hopefully his body responds to the relief role. He has the attitude. Now he just needs his health to cooperate. The question is will Thornton and Boone be able to give the sox 100 innings between them? Time will tell. i agree, but you've got to play the hand your delt, and the way its looking we've been delt a full house, were stacked. Im hoping both Logan and Thorton can keep it togeather if thats the case our bullpen with its few ?s could become one of the best in the bigs. Anyways Thanks for the welcoming glad to be here.
  15. QUOTE(beck72 @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 05:34 AM) I don't buy the argument that the sox have to deal one of their SP's now. The sox know their pitching is what will keep them contending every year. A more likely scenario is dealing a top prospect [Josh Fields, Owens] with a non-contending team [one of the perennial cellar dwellars] for a reliever. Though it won't net a top reliever, it could be a very solid vet. Though closer to the deadline, it probably could get a better pitcher. If the sox wanted to add a top flight bullpen guy, a guy like Crede or Dye would have to go. I don't see that either. They may have to dip into the farm system to fill the Dustin void. But waiting until the deadline is probably the best bet. I agree, and did anyone listen to KW during yesterdays game with the braves in the booth with Hawk and DJ? he said hes going to follow the braves philosphy and stockpile our starting pitching and when the opertunity arises draw from our farm. I would'nt be supprised if Brandon does'nt sniff the rotation fulltime till after '07 all the while getting better via the bullpen. i know alot of people both here and on WSI are antsy about getting brandon into the rotation, but id rather take 5 vets and let brendan evlove into more of a scot shields role in the bullpen, his time will come but for now he affords us the oppertunity to start a dynasty on the south side in the bullpen.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 10:48 AM) Ok, I for one am going to turn this around and be the optimist on our bullpen. Then again, I usually wind up being the optimist, but anywho, I can type pretty fast. I think the Sox are in a pretty good position with regards to their bullpen, for several key reasons: 1. The Sox have several people who can close. Bobby Jenks is naturally at the top of that list, but if he winds up unable to close, just like we had Hermanson as a backup last year, we have Cotts as a decent backup this year. IMO, the Closer still remains by far the biggest key to your bullpen. If you have a good closer, you can have basically nothing else around him and your bullpen will still look decent. Think about last year with the Cubs. Their bullpen was s*** the first 2 months of the season, then they moved Dempster to the closer's role, and suddenly everything looked better. Think about the 04 Dodgers; Depodesta traded away everything from his bullpen except his closer, and they still had a good bullpen (Gagne got himself hurt because of that mess, but that's another story). Think about the Yankees with Rivera, or how the Red Sox look with and Without Foulke. If we can have just 1 guy who can hold down the fort as a closer, we will be in very good shape in the pen no matter what else happens. We may lose games if all we have is the closer, but we will win enough that no one will notice. 2. The Bullpen is going to be used even less than last year no matter how many innings people threw last year. Why? Because we have 5+ "innings eaters" on our starting staff. Last year, El Duque was only able to throw 128 innings. He barely averaged 5 innings per start. Just having him in the rotation guaranteed our bullpen was going to have to throw 4-5 innings at least every time through the rotation. With Vazquez in his place, we are just going to need the bullpen less and less. The guy throws 200+ innings every year, and that's a ton less innings going to the pen. Especially if they follow their word to get McCarthy 100+ innings as well. 3. We have 2 converted starters in our bullpen. Last year, the longest we ever really saw anyone go out of the bullpen was Viz throwing 2.1 innings or Jenks occasionally throwing 3. So every time we got wrapped up in one of them 13-14 inning games where neither team can score, we used our entire bullpen (and sometimes lost the game because all we had left were walker/Adkins). With both McCarthy and Thornton out there...we have 2 guys who are able to keep the bullpen from having to blow itself out. Both of them can throw 4-5 innings out of the pen if the game is tied late and we need them to do so. This can let us keep people fresher. Big advantage. 4. Yes, we have a lot of youth out in the bullpen. But there are also advantages to youth. Specifically: health. We have what, 2 guys over 30 in our pen, and 1 of them is already on the DL? Aside from the guy with the screw in his elbow, there's really no reason to expect that the bullpen is going to struggle to stay healthy this year. 5. Raw talent. We b**** and moan about how Minnesota is able to bring up these guys who can throw 96+ all the time. Well right now, we have managed to pick up a guy who can throw 99+ from the right side and a guy who can hit 97 from the left side. On top of that, we have 2 other lefties who can hit the low 90's and seem to have good control, and a righty in the low to mid 90's. Oh, and another righty who can hit 93-94. 6. Left-handers. Ozzie wants to play the matchup game? There are teams that go entire seasons without being able to make use of a LOOGY. We have f***ing 3 of them. 7. Coaching staff. We've already seen what Ozzie and Cooper can do for our starting rotation, we've already seen what they were able to do with Cotts, we've already seen what they were able to do with Politte, Hermanson, Jenks, etc. These guys are damn good at getting the most out of our pitchers. 8. Catchers. The same guys who were shaken off 2 times last year by Buehrle are calling pitches for these guys too. Are there bullpens better than ours? On paper, probably. But I still think we're going to be surprised how good of shape we're in, especially if Bobby can keep building velocity and can settle into the closer's role full time. We're well set up for this run. I'm just vastly less nervous than most of you are. Edit: forgot 1. Offense. We've massively upgraded the bench/sunday lineup, and we've massively upgraded our DH spot. I've harped on this since last year, but we also had 4 or 5 guys who really disappointed with the bats last year. Score more runs and you'll need the bullpen less, or you'll be able to bail the pen out even more. Last year we were only about 60 runs from being the #4 offense in the league. We've got a real shot @ top 5 this year. First off im more of a lerker here and just recently signed up so hello to everyone on the board. Secondly i agree 100% with you i think people are getting a little two worried about Jenks and our bullpen in general. Yesterday Jenks looked good he was'nt at 100% but he looked solid, he was working in a few cut fastballs and he brought the 12-6 hook and his velocity was up. He also struck out two, if our farm hand Valido had'nt droped the ball, Jenks would've been out of the inning and not blown the save. With regards to Matt Thorton since Coop has truly had time to work with him he looks much more fluid i believe that was his third scoreless appearnce; hes always had a good arm. Yesterday he came into a bases loaded situation and got out of it and looked good doing it. He also struck out Todd Helton and made him look silly in doing so. Anyways thats just my .02 cents. Go Sox!
