QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) But jerking around Beckham and moving him from position to position when he's just learning to hit big league pitching...poor idea. Personally, I don't have much of a problem with this, as long as Beckham is comfortable with it (and I imagine he is). As long as the kid has a good head on his shoulders, then I think there's no reason he couldn't handle a little 3B or 2B or whatever.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) What I've learned from this thread: Ozzie is a terrible manager who accounts for all our losses. Ozzie has no impact on wins since we would have won anyway. Makes sense. All the blame for losses, none of the recognition for wins. I hope there is at least a little sarcasm in this post, because I haven't seen anyone say anything close to this.

How do you know he doesn't like playing for the Cubs.. has he said that?

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) Let's face it, neither one of them are very good. It doesn't really matter who is out there. Any production out of either one should be considered icing on the cake. I'm sorry, but a .270 BA and a .350 OBP is fairly decent for a 7/8/9 hitter in BA (especially when it comes with excellent defense). BA beats Wise in both fielding and batting.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:28 AM) I can't believe people are so blind as to what will happen. CQ returns on 6/10, and Wise is likely DFA'd (even though it could end up being Betemit). Pods will become our starting CF, and Anderson will be our 4th outfielder. He'll play for CQ when he's hurt and give Pods a break once a week. I really, really hope this happens. Obviously, I don't like Pods in CF (nor really anywhere in the field), but we truly have no other leadoff options.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:23 AM) Make a thread about Fields being on the field instead of Wilson Betemit last night and I'll believe thats the case. Obviously you can't start Fields 162 games a year.. When Wilson Betemit gets 3 consecutive starts, I'll be pretty upset.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:20 AM) Fail. You can want whatever you want, but its not going to happen. And Wise will be in AAA in a few days with BA starting everyday again and you will still be there pouting about something else. You call wanting to see the best team on the field pouting? Okay. I'll take it, I guess. And I know I'm probably one of the few who want Ozzie gone, and that's fine.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) You didn't really just make a comparison based on the 29 at-bats Wise this year, did you? And called what I said dumb? Look... I'm not suggesting Wise is the answer. So far, he's shown he's a marginal player too. I just don't see why people get so religious about why one marginal player needs to be sat down so another marginal player gets to play... And then screaming that the manager needs to be fired because "he doesn't get it". My wanting Ozzie gone is more based on the passed 3 years of mis-managing. This is just the icing on the cake. And how has Wise shown he's even a marginal player? He hasn't done anything. I don't care if its only been 29 ABs. Brian absolutely deserves to be playing over him. Now, if we had another person who could play CF and hit better than Brian, then I'd be 100% behind him starting. But we don't. Brian is our best possible CFer, period. That's the facts.
-
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:02 AM) And we are going to get him more ABs against lefties, why. Because Ozzie Guillen doesn't know how to manage a lineup.
-
QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 10:44 AM) Brian, of course, could make this whole thing easier by PLAYING BETTER. Amazing how people want to pick any one thing he does well and wave it like a flag as to why Brian deserves to be a regular and questioning why Ozzie 'doesn't get it'. What part of having a sub .700 OPS are you not paying attention to??? Get a grip. When Brian plays well enough to be a real MLB regular, he'll get the job. Don't blame management for his inability to get the job done. Wow, one of the dumbest things I've ever read on here. Congrats to you! .269/.352/.344/.696 .172/.200/.172/.372 So what the f*** has DeWayne f***ing Wise done to "get" the job (besides suck)?
-
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 10:26 AM) Just a question...when is an experiment no longer an experiment? I mean, he's been here for 5 years. I think he is who he is. And the front office likes it. I know the front office likes him, doesn't mean I have to. I call it an experiment only because Ozzie is a rough-edged guy, very different than you find in most ML managers.
-
For all of you who laughed when we said Wise would be starting/playing over BA.. HA! Ozzie is an idiot, and I want him fired after the season. The Ozzie Guillen experiment should be over.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) Like Ozzie said; a player should not lose his job due to injury and regardless of what Brian did while Wise was out Dewayne deserves to have the starting job handed back to him. It's Wise's job to lose. Sure Brian hit .282 with a .365 OBP in a starting role and his hitting .323/.382/.484/.866 over his last 10 with four multi-hit games, not giving Wise the majority of the ABs would be unfair. I lol'ed. And just to spice things up: .192/.192/.192 for a whopping OPS of .384, a whole 2 points higher than Brian's OBP over the last 10 games. And some more kickers: Wise has no walks, no extra-base hits, and has struck out in 30.7% of his AB's this season (8 K's/26 AB's). Man, we sure got a winner in DWise!!!!!!!!!!!!! Edit: some more goodness, 2 CS and 0 SB Oh, and I just found this.. get ready for it... his OPS+ is NEGATIVE 1. That's correct, as in -1, 101 points below average. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2009 -> 10:21 AM) The Sox are also 6-2 since Peavy turned us down. Win.
