GAME THREAD: Devil Rays @ Sox, 7:05pm
I like blaming Ozzie for alot of things just like you guys, when he mismanages the 'pen. But c'mon people, its an 11-5 game, you SHOULD be able to throw Cotts and Riske in there, and just expect them to get outs. Don't pin everything on Oz just cause you can.

Official College Football Thread
Back to the proper sig for whats coming up in 2 days!! Lots of unknowns for this years USC team, a VERY young defense, an offense in its 2nd year under Spurrier, one of the best recievers in the country, and a real dangerous game on the road to open the season against a hungry Mississippi State team on national TV....this is a trap game.

Dye deserves 2006 AL MVP Award
Funny how that got derailed for a bit there haha. Ace had me thoroughly confused there too, Mauer is far from a 'dime a dozen' guy As for JD, I agree with Balta. If this team makes the playoffs, then yes JD gets my nod for sure as MVP, hes been the one constant in this lineup ALL year.

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) Over the course of the season he has a 4.99 ERA which is crap. That's ok only for a #5 starter. His WHIP isn't much better because he's given up a ton of hits. His K/9 is the same mediocre it has been all of his major league career. That's what I think of his entire season. My opinion of his season will be considerably different if he keeps up this hot streak for the remainder of the season. I'm not optimistic. I'm speaking of Buehrle, not Garland...how is HE in your eyes for the season then? Buehrles WHIP is 0.05 better than Garlands coming into tonight, yet I bet he is much better in your mind. I'm not saying Garland is a better pitcher than Buehrle, but give some credit where its due. Garland made adjustments concerning his slider, and is pitching much better now. Buehrle, before the Alomar battery, had been absolutely dreadful for the last month and a half.

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 09:20 PM) I'm pointing out how good he's been over the course of the entire season. Am I supposed to bow and scrape and pretend that Garland is an ace because he's on a hot steak? Instead, I choose to call 'em as I see 'em. Its called streaks. Every one of our hitters have/are going through them. Pitchers are allowed to go through the same. Like right now, Buehrle minus his last start with Alomar, has been absolute spiff in about the same timeframe. How is he in your eyes for the entire season then?

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 09:15 PM) Garland has been crap this year except for one month. Have you been following the Sox this season. That has been pretty obvious. Anyone who argues about how good a pitcher is by arguing his pitching wins really shouldn't waste their time making an argument at all. And its been the last month, month and a half. Can't you just admit hes gotten better...saying "Only one month" is a bit misleading considering its been the last month+ you are talking about. Ever since he started getting his slider over, he has been a completely different pitcher. I can understand slinging mud at Garland when he deserves it, but right now is not the time.

New Idea for leadoff hitter next year
I'm in agreement DBAH0. Wow, never knew what kind of OBP Delucci was putting up. Kinda funny how if you check Crawfords numbers, you know the guy that everyone on here seems to be clamoring over, its not really that impressive at all...its sub-Podsednik...which makes me sad in pants.

music
Muse - Map of the Problematique the song I'm really listening to alot right now. As an admitted Muse fan, if you can get past that horrid radio-jingly "Supermassive Black Hole" that they seemingly made JUST to get airplay, the "Black Holes and Revelations" CD to me is pretty solid. Also really like "Knights of Cydonia" and "Exo-Politics"

And that's a White Sox loser
I'll edit the title for ya there, Bob, so...question mark, blast ye, shall be gone!! As for why the Vasquez thread was closed...well I didn't close it myself, but theres a pretty good chance as far as I can tell, that it was closed, and an inappropriate comment removed. Then simply someone forgot to reopen it after things were removed. I'll tell ya what, for now I'm gonna reopen it, and will post this same info in it also.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 01:07 AM) Jon Garland hasn't allowed a HR in 52.1 innings. Which is honestly quite an amazing feat, considering he had given up 19 in his first 77 IP!!

And that's a White Sox loser
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 03:22 AM) I feel like I've been waiting all season for this team to "click" and I"m sure that I'm not alone. When one aspect shines, some other falters. We've seen signs, flashes of brilliance, and obviously this team is better than most in the league. But it's never felt like all the pieces are in sync and now that questions of "intensity" are being raised and key people are getting dinged up, I'm beginning to wonder if time isn't running out on the Sox getting a full head of steam and doing some damage. It's not like one game is going to turn it around, it's a stretch of games where they play solid D, have quality at bats and pitch well start to finish. Do that for a few weeks and the swagger's back. After games like this that "mojo" seems even more elusive. Theres thousands of us that have been waiting for....oh....a little over 4 months for "The best starting rotation on paper" to live up to even a glimmer of what they're capable of, sadly.
